STRENGTHS
Hull Eater: The Tuk’ata class is designed with one goal in mind - to surgically disable enemy starships, often larger than itself, and carve holes with its powerful Neutron Torch weapons. From there, supporting forces can board enemy ships to commandeer and loot them, or simply slaughter the enemy crew.
Evasive: Although not particularly maneuverable, the Tuk’ata class comes equipped with several useful features. Missile deactivators coupled with point defense systems may spare the frigate from otherwise lethal blows, while the ECM delays enemy targeting and tracking, and the N-CRAB system makes the Tuk’ata’s hyperspace movements difficult to predict.
WEAKNESSES
Volatile Core: The Tu’kata’s Neutron Torch weapons draw heavy power to sustain their use, requiring an oversized and unstable reactor system to turn the mining beams into a battle-ready weapon. The reactor’s “bubble” is highly visible, and any amount of damage to the reactor core - disabling or not - can cause a chain reaction, vaporizing the ship and its crew in a spectacular explosion.
Just a Cog: Although versatile and effective, the Tu’kata lacks the hangars and relevant cargo space to enable boarding and looting all on its own. Support craft are required to achieve those ends. As well, the Tuk’ata class is not a battleline starship and can be overwhelmed when isolated.
DESCRIPTION
The Tuk’ata class is a series of heavily modified mining vessels that have been converted into a class of raiding frigates. Originally a Hydian-Wyl design, they are armed with the conglomerate’s iconic Neutron Torch mining lasers. Because of the addition of ion cannons and other specialized systems, the Tuk’ata’s reactor core has become quite unstable.
Officially, the original starships were stolen from mothballed mining fleets. However, this is unlikely due to the number of converted vessels and the meticulous modifications made to them, suggesting inside help. Regardless of how the Sith Covenant acquired their raiding ships, the Tuk’ata class forms the spine of the Covenant’s raiding tactics, providing a compact frigate capable of hitting hard and fast, and disappearing before help can arrive.
