Intent: To add an alternative point defense option for capital ships and vehicles
Development Thread: If needed
Manufacturer: Lucerne Labs
Model: Trudo-class Point Defense Turret
Affiliation: Lucerne Labs, Directorate, Closed Market
Modularity: None
Production: Mass-Produced
Material: Alusteel casing, electronics, particle shield generator, Pressor Field generator
Classification: Pressor Field / Particle Shield Protector emplacement
Size: Ship or vehicle mounted
Length: 1 meter
Weight: 6 tons
Ammunition Type: Pressor Field
Ammunition Capacity: Dependent on power source, typically infinite for practical purposes on capital ships
Effective Range: ~1 kilometer
Rate of Fire: Single
Special Features:
-Counts as 1 gun (or 1 defensive gun) for starship building purposes
-Pressor field pushes targets away from defending vessel

Strengths:

Fast-Tracking: The small mass of the Trudo allows it to track to effectively track fast and agile targets.

Unorthodox: Few if any other point defense weapons work on the Trudo's principles, which frequently catches opponents off guard.

Weaknesses:

Cooldown: The Trudo requires a cooldown time that is twice as long as its active time to recharge its capacitors. While it varies on how long it was active, this is typically a 20 second active time and a 40 second cool time.

Short-Range: The Trudo is fairly short-ranged for its role, with most starfighter-grade laser cannons and warhead competitors having at least double its range.

Description: Traditionally, point defense has consisted of using weapons to destroy incoming threats. The Trudo subverts this trope by projecting actual defenses into the path of incoming objects. When the turret is aimed the target, it projects a small particle shield (roughly 2 meters by 2 meters) into space in a manner similar to the KL-44 Commander Shield Projector into the path of the object. Ideally, the incoming object will collide with the shield, damage or destroy the object. Since the Trudo's shield generator is not very high-powered, it generally will only outright destroy small objects, such as starfighter grade missiles, while other objects essentially act as if they collided with a smaller object. Larger objects such as starfighters might suffer shield damage or some minor hull damage, but are not generally destroyed by this process. The major effect of such shields colliding is knocking the ship of course. This is compounded by the focused pressor field being projected down the same arc. Against physical weapons, the pressor beam slows down or even repulses the object or its now fragmented components to reduce the impact against the defending ship's shields or hull. Against objects like starships or heavy warheads, the pressor field pushes them away as long as it is active. Because the pressor beam is usually attached to a much larger object, such as a capital ship, the smaller incoming object is usually disproportionately affected by their shared connection. In practical terms, this generally alters its path away from the defending vessel. In doing so, it often makes the target more easy to hit and destroy by the ship's other point defenses.

Because the Trudo has relatively long active and cooldown times, it is generally not suited for protecting against starfighter-grade missile barrages or other sustained physical attacks that require a high amount of sustained fire. Instead, it is most ideal in stopping occasional, but heavy, attacks aimed at the defending ship, such as assault-grade warheads, the occasional hypervelocity round, and kamikaze starships. It should be noted that even if the Trudo successful intercepts one of these, there's a high chance that some of its fragments will still impact the hull at reduced velocity. As potentially revolutionary as the weapon is, it is not a replacement for traditional point defense weapons, but instead should be viewed as supplementary weapon.

Trudos are typically installed among banks of other point defenses. Because they are designed to track fast moving objects, most Trudos are operated by droid brains or other automated targeting systems, but are supervised by organic gunners who generally select and prioritize the targets. In an emergency, a crewmember may override and take direct control of all of the emplacement's features, though this typically results in reduced performance against exceptionally fast targets.
