Private Troubles on the River

There were some tricks about life on the Rim. Jared, like most Starchasers knew them well. But he was the one acting on them. His father was out teaching new Jedi, new explorers. Kaia was out exploring and salvaging. But it meant that Jared had the mission to help those on the ground. And that meant helping another one of the waywards out there. Shaye Ares Shaye Ares .

Jared ran across her a while back and while they were working together a fair bit, but definitely had their own lives and approaches. He wasn't sure about Shaye. The new ship he was using was something to make exploration a bit easier. It was a modified design of the Jedi Defender. A bit extended from the one in the Jedi records, allowing for one outside docked fighter, and one held internally. Basically, a prototype for explorers and the Warden who may need a quick getaway.

The ship aside, Jared had modified it to work with his astromech and exploration droids and a small crew. This trip? It was him and Shaye. The girl was his cousin, coming from that uncle. But she had all the hallmarks of a good pilot and operative. And with work on the Great River, to help move Jedi and sympathizers around the galaxy, it meant she needed to be aware of what situations were going to come up to her.

The light corvette had touched down on planetoid out in the chaos that surrounded his home region of space. While he and his sister were both Corellian and Mirialan, he was raised around the Chiss, and it was why one of the TIE Advanced models was sitting in the hangar of this scout ship.

Jared looked across the table at Shaye.

"So, now that we're deep in the chaos…" As the Chiss called it. "I found us a world that has a few things that you're going to need to be aware of, especially if you're going to take a more active role out there." With the Alliance, it was not always that Jedi needed movement, but employing smugglers and trailblazers was something his father was convinced needed to happen. And Jared felt they needed to be trained properly.

"Did you bring any gear for a hazardous terrain? And maybe creatures?" Granted finding them was the goal, fighting them? Not so much.

Shaye wasn't sure about much these days.

Just as Jared was skeptical of her, the feeling was mutual. Even though they'd worked together on occasion, she didn't really know him. And she did her best to keep him from every knowing her. It wasn't her way to grow close to people, maybe it was a trait she'd inherited from her father. That was something her mother would have said, at least.

Even though Uncle Coren had offered to give her training, she'd turned him down. Maybe it was pride, but Shaye never went about things the easy way. All of this... force business was something she was determined to figure out on her own.

Shaye glanced sidelong at Jared as he spoke.

"Gear?"
she asked, narrowing her eyes. Usually, she just had to fly – pick stuff up, drop stuff off. Shaye had heard stories about her uncle having done rescue missions along the river. He hadn't sent her out for anything like that... yet. "Well, like, I got a blaster. And this," she tapped the lightsaber clipped to her belt. It was a training saber she'd stolen from the temple, and later altered to be real. Did she know how to use it?

Sort of.

"So, what exactly are you expecting to find?"
she asked.

Jared didn't always try to be a loner, but he did it well, all the same. He wanted to be like his father, wanted to be the hero, but his path was much different. He was the one between the lines and the one who worked better from the shadows, sometimes quite literally. Everyone who knew him knew he wasn't a dark sider, but it was just that he worked from a different angle than most.

Today he was wanting to see what he could teach to the smuggler cousin. And that was why they were all the way out here. When she agreed, he wasn't really that far prepped, but it was going to help out the other Jedi. And maybe make a Warden-adjacent out of her. Or at least someone who wouldn't hesitate to help those who needed it. May not get Jedi but he wasn't looking to train Jedi.

His family were famous Wayseekers after all. Well, aside from his father.

"Yeah, gear." He grinned, knowing that she probably wasn't all that suited for anything outside of her ship and maybe a city environment but that was fine. "A blaster… and a lightsaber? When'd you make that?" For a moment more interested in that then the box that he had.

"I've got some gear for you for getting out there… We're in a hostile world and doing some data collection, and possibly some … retrieval. But tell me more about that lightsaber."
