DESCRIPTION
The 'Flechette' Class Light Interceptor is a fast, maneuverable entry into the Interceptor market from Trigonus Industries. It is specifically designed to attach to other ships via docking ports, allowing it to be carried with and boarded from those vessels. This not only allows Gozanti-style transportation, but also deployment in the field. A freighter could carry its own escort, even without an internal hangar bay. Although the interceptors are lightly shielded, they remain superior to the less-expensive (and less well-protected) Tie/ln and Tie'mg series. They also have hyperdrives and nav computers, allowing them to make short jumps to the edge of systems or even adjacent systems for longer-range patrols and interdictions. The SPEEDS power distribution system also allows for enhancement of systems in a crisis. A combination of Ion and laser cannons makes for a well-rounded direct-fire capability, but the lack of missiles forces the interceptor to advance to close range before engaging a target. Despite being classed as a 'light' interceptor due to its limited weapons loadout, the Flechette's oversized engines limit squadron size when compared to other craft like the popular X-Wing fighter.
