Tournament: Zalderic Drayke vs. Valeria Ilara

Zalderic Drayke

Justicar
Character
Zalderic glanced around, it was extremely dark, fortunately he had some experience with caves. Using the Force to see, he began cautiously venturing down the tunnel, his light sabers in hand, though he really doubted they would be of much use in such a tight space.

His target was somewhere in the cave or one of its many tunnels. He didn't know much about her other then the fact that she rode a dragon, but thankfully the tunnels were too narrow for it to get in and they were far enough underground, so it couldn't collapse the roof.

The pathway entered into a large area, he could hear water trickling on one side of the room. He scanned the area for his target, she wasn't here yet. He kept his light sabers shut off, not wanting to give away his position. Slowly he began to move towards the source of the water, watching closely for his target.

She had eschewed her dragon, for obvious reasons. In the darkness of this network of caves, the gigantic, twenty-metre dragon would barely fit, let alone be of any use. Mer'ax'ys had stayed home for this little battle, leaving the Je'daii alone in her task. She was still a Journeyer, learning the ways of Ashla and Bogan, of balance and the Force, and the way it could be moved and manipulated. She knew a little. Certainly enough that she could fight this battle, however.

Her blade, her hand-forged Force-imbued blade, provided her light. It was not a lightsaber, but a solid blade, that crackled with striations of a bright blue, like lightning. As the Force coursed through the weapon, it coursed through her as well. The blacksmith-turned-Je'daii would not be denied her heritage, making her weapon as well-forged as her mind. All she had to do now was find her opponent.

It was easy to see Valeria, with her blade bright as it was. However, she could sense her opponent in the Force, knowing where he was, this Zalderic Drayke, a fellow Journeyer on the great path of Balance. The huntress said nary a word as she approached, the water not even a distraction. However, it was unmistakeable that her sword moved when she reached the room, taking the blade into a two-handed grip, hilt near her navel, Her face and her features were dark and hidden, highlighted by a bright blue glow here and there, in her black robes. Her stance shifted to have her knees bent and her right leg back.

Needless to say, Valeria Ilara was ready to fight for her life, a wordless warrior, prepared for the worst in this battle of wits and steel.

She seemed to have no interest in being the least bit subtle as Zalderic saw her enter, lightsaber ignited. He stopped moving, then slowly and quietly rose, activating his dual violet blades. He held them aimed at the ground pointing away from himself.

"Your blade was made well." He said, pausing. "But unfortunately it will not save you." He concentrated, sending thoughts of defeat towards her, trying to make her fearful. "Now shall we begin?"

He raised his blades in a defensive position, giving her the opportunity to attack.

This poor fellow Journeyer, wayward, lost; Valeria had learned her arts. For Zalderic to not recognise it for what it was, the cascading blue lightning across her sword, was a disappointing sign indeed. She was at the end of her Pilgrimage. She was ready to fight at the strength of a warrior so prepared for the next step, as a Ranger. She was not afraid of any opponent who wielded lightsabers, for her art was the steel blades that she forged through her hard work, determination and her power in the Force. One day, Zalderic would have to forge one of these swords too. The fact she hadone was a sign that she was so much further along than he.

His mental attack was resisted, given the fact that she was rooted in the Force, confident and sure in the strength of arms, Valeria was not one to give up so easily. However, she noted his power, and would have to deal with that. Her eyes darkened for just a moment.

"When you are ready, Journeyer," said Valeria - but at that moment she chose to spring, a burst of the very basic Force Speed power carrying her legs through the darkness of the cave. Twin violet lightsabers held down and away from the body was a precarious position, so all Val had to do was carry through with a very basic set of strikes from her already high blade, pointed at Zalderic's head - the first was a simple slice from its posistion straight downwards to bisect him, then a straight thrust aiming to impale him through the chest from where he was.

There was no doubt in her mind - this was a battle that she would have to fight, against a fellow Je'daii.

Zalderic moved his blade up to weakly deflect the first attack, then rolled to the side to avoid the thrust. He immediately began making adjustments in his mind, adapting to fit the circumstances. He sent a force push at her legs in an attempt to trip her, then followed with a combination of strikes utilizing his two sabers against her one.

The fact that her fellow Journeyer was using such long, drawn out maneuvers and silly ones, like a long roll from a quick thrust, meant that Valeria knew that he was picking twin sabers as a choice just for show. The roll gave the Je'daii plenty of time to bring her blade back to guard and prepare for his next attack, readying herself in the Force. As Zalderic got up and extended a hand to deliver a Force Push, so did she, countering push with push with all the time she had to ready. Then, back to guard, where Valeria could do her thing.

Every strike was wild, chaotic, but not entirely perfect. It was a mish-mash of two swords versus one, certainly, but when you had focused on that one sword, when you forged it with your hands, when it was a literal part of you, it tended to be a better weapon. The blade crackled with every parry, smashing one of the left-hand strikes across Zalderic's body with a rounded parry off the side of her blade, delivering it with such force that the momentum of the block should spin him - and, at this range, he'd have trouble resisting her steel-toed boot flying towards his hip to shatter it with a front kick. That, coupled with another thrust and vertical slash down from head to hip, he'd be in a world of trouble.

Zalderic could tell the battle was shifting in her favor, she was preparing to finish him. But he could not allow that to happen. He had to take control of the fight, dictate it. He was hit directly by her kick, the pain was immense. Instead of trying to deflect her attacks and play directly into her hands, he tried something else. He fired off a brilliant flash of light. It worked somewhat as it caused her to hesitate before continuing her attack, giving him just enough time to dive out of the way.

He was losing this battle of blades, it was obvious. As he rolled out of the way, he caused illusions, if nothing else they could momentarily distract her. They appeared, the three of them, their red and yellow eyes staring at her hungrily, they were all beasts that typically inhabited caves. Of course they couldn't do her any harm, but they gave him enough time to escape down a small passage.

He hurried down it, wondering if she had seem which way he had went. He had deactivated his lightsabers to minimize the light. He continued down it until he arrived at a fork in the path. He choose the right, hiding in a small alcove to rest and wait. He could see the fork from here, though it would be difficult to see him from it.
