STANDARD FEATURES
- Passive Countermeasures System
- Military-Grade Sensor Suite
- Hyperwave Transceiver
- Internal Defenses (including defensive turrets and access controlled environments/passages)
- Standard Astrogation System
- Escape Pod systems
- Life Support systems
- Strategic Command Core: allows for fleet-wide coordination suite capable of managing multiple battlegroups, real-time tactics modeling and predictive engagement systems, and integrated intelligence analytics and algorithmic analysis system.
- Advanced Damage Control Network: due to the unusual choice of using exotic (and highly flammable) materials like wood and carpeting in some areas of the ship, an advanced, automated fire suppression and hull-sealing system was built into the Sovereign's flagship. It includes priority signal transmission for rapid-response teams and self-isolating compartments to prevent the spread of fire or other hazards (including hull breach, chemical leak, etc.).
- Magnetic Mass Accelerator: an underslung railgun runs along the length of the underside of the ship.
- Command Superiority: Extensive communications and telemetry technology supports the vessel's role as a command and control center.
- Secondary and Tertiary Bridge: To prevent decapitation strikes, the Hyperion comes equipped with a secondary and tertiary command bridge. This allows the ship to maintain operations even if the first (or even the second) bridge is destroyed, disabled, or captured.
- Powerful Railgun: A powerful magnetic mass accelerator cannon running along the underside of the vessel at the centerline, protected by the slightly proboscid nose and the substructure 'under' the ship, has the capacity to offer a devastating punch -- if it can be deployed effectively. It is designed to be deployed in a long-range, anti-capital or anti-station strike, or a devastating orbital assault.
- Ponderous: The Hyperion is large, and due to its size and mass, it is not the most maneuverable or fastest ship on the battlefield.
- Railgun:
- Limited Firing Arc: The magnetic mass accelerator cannon is forward-mounted, which means that it can only be fired in a forward-facing manner. This can make it somewhat ungainly to line up a shot during the heat of battle.
- Long Recharge: The railgun requires a tremendous amount of energy to charge for firing. It cannot be fired more than once every fifteen minutes or so.
- High Recoil: When fired, the railgun is a massive structural and inertial event, which temporarily slows the vessel.
- Weak Spot: The rear of the ship, where the engines are, are comparatively lightly defended compared to protections of the command center, the reactor, and the railgun. This puts the ship in a position to rely upon external defensive escort support.
HMV Hyperion is a Titanic-class Command Battlecruiser and the flagship of the Renascent Heirate and its Sovereign. On its face, there is very little connection between the design aesthetic of the Renascent Heirate and its First Imperial roots; gone are the elongated triangles, the Imperial Star Destroyer design that inspired Imperial governments for centuries. But under the surface, much of the design sensibilities remain: exquisite design, uncompromising engineering, and martial prowess in an elegant package.
Following the design ethos of the fabled FIV Concordia, Natasi Fortan's flagship and mobile diplomatic headquarters in the old First Order days, Hyperion is a triumph of Renascent engineering. At its bones a powerful warship, Hyperion also iterates on the Concordia's luxurious appointments and grand interiors, designed as both capable flagship and a mobile extension of the Renascent Heirate's diplomatic reach: less home from home than palace from palace. Like Concordia, Hyperion was designed as a collaborative effort. Hyperion is the brainchild of long working sessions with the Ministry of Defense, the Renascent Royal Engineering Corps, the Tregessar Naval Shipyards, as well as Natasi Fortan herself and George Vitalis, the present and future of the Crown.
In addition to the usual starship components, engineering spaces, weapons emplacements, officers' and enlisted messes, quarters, and other facilities, the Hyperion contains a suite of diplomatic rooms, guest suites, and a working Sovereign's Apartments, replete with bedroom (ensuite), office, private dining room, family quarters, conference room, and three state function rooms which can be combined into one room, large enough to host a sitting of the Renascent Heirate's Concordiate -- albeit in less comfort than in its usual setting in New Sterandel on Aegis. It also houses a small barracks, command center, and gym/training center for the royal guardsmen that accompany the Sovereign when she is aboard.
Unlike Concordia -- though also as a response to lessons learned from it -- Hyperion is not less militarily-capable than similar ships. A true flagship, not just a ceremonial one, Hyperion has teeth, not least in its railgun. But it is no slouch in broadside-to-broadside combat, either, and sports a the capacity to carry defensive and attack fightercraft and support craft -- shuttles, gunships, or otherwise, depending on mission parameters.
