Tiresome

For all that Cedric lacked, he knew when not to prod. His lips pressed together in firm silence as she turned away from him, the content of her speech something far more personal than he should have been afforded. The answer was a vague one, but then even that held more weight than one might expect. Whatever had happened to Asha was her own business, and yet Cedric found himself feeling curious. Curious, and a bit cautious, not that she'd given him any real reason to be.

"People die. It's a reality I've come to accept," Cedric muttered with a shrug. If there was any kind of private grief he might have felt over the passing of his progenitors, it did not show. There was nothing, save for the matter-of-fact tone and thin, almost regretful smile.

"Sometimes it's a necessity," he countered, "Sometimes. Most of the time though, I agree. it's pointless." He continued, his arms drawing about his chest as he leaned back against the rocks. There was nothing by way of comfort in the damp cavern, but he found a semblance of peace all the same. The ground was hard, and the rocks behind him dug into his back, but it was better than sleeping out on open ground. They had nothing by way of predators or slavers to fear here.

"I understand." He said quietly, nodding at her final explanation as he allowed his eyes to drift shut. "We should sleep Asha. We can move in the morning."

Asha didn't bother to speak anything else, she wasn't even pondering over what had been said, at this point fatigue had well and truly set in. The suggestion to sleep was greatly appreciated, and she murmured her agreement. A very slim part of her, that which apparently did not wish to sleep, could not help but wonder just who Cedric was. He had stated that his parents were notable, that made him the same... right?

Who knew who she was sat with. Did it matter? Right now, no. It did not.

Mental crisis well and truly averted, she closed her eyes and drifted into the dreamscape she had come to know, one which existed separately from the nightmares which would otherwise have plagued her. Visions of the Universe, courtesy of Sargon, lulled her into a sense of security. She remained upright, back propped against the wall. It was nothing new, there had been times where she had fallen asleep knelt without any support at all, awaiting Aellin. She had gotten good at sitting in one place for hours.

None of the children awoke in the night, which honestly came as quite the surprise given all that had happened. It seemed as though the long journey to the cave had seriously worn them out. Probably for the best.
