Intent: A distinctive prize for participants in Weekend Treasure Hunt 26.

Development Thread: Weekend Treasure Hunt 26: In Purgatory's Shadow - participants raid the Cult of the Iron Will and encounter artifacts with the functions described below.

Manufacturer: The Cult of the Iron Will (an NPC organization). Any competent alchemist can replicate Tincture of Avarice in semi-unique quantities.

Name: Tincture of Avarice

Type of Consumable: Beverage

Legal Status: Available only through Force-related black markets and comparable venues. For example, you could find it in Korriban City, Marrow & Illskins, or the Coldharbor.

Affiliation: The Cult of the Iron Will (NPC). Several bottles were discovered by [member="Causstik Rahn"], [member="Tai Fa"], [member="Niysha"], [member="Thengil Ri'Shajirr"], [member="Zerka Tarash"], [member="Tobias Wrynn"], [member="Arla Balor"], [member="Mishka Larraq"], [member="Stardust Raxis"], and [member="Aeshi Tillian"] on a nameless medieval world. [member="Fatty"] is also known to have some in his private stash.

Modularity: I suppose you could make cocktails with it.

Homeworld (optional): N/A

Ingredients: Rare Dark Side alchemical reagents, dissolved in an alcoholic beverage containing 35% alcohol by volume

Production: Semi-unique

Strengths:
  • A drink of Tincture of Avarice will give the drinker a general sense of whether there are large concentrations of valuables nearby, and the direction in which they may be found. Average range would be less than a hundred metres. Brief, vague visions may be involved.
  • Tincture of Avarice tastes quite nice, something like licorice.

Weaknesses:
  • The Tincture’s main ability applies only to what one might call traditional valuables (precious metals, gemstones, artifacts, hard currency, etc.). It's not about to reveal the location of a hidden credit card or the stolen Death Star plans.
  • Tincture of Avarice inspires overwhelming greed.
  • Tincture of Avarice is quite strong and will intoxicate easily.

Method of Consumption: Consumed orally. Can be consumed repeatedly for longer-lasting and more intense instincts, but drunkenness will result.

Average Life: Effects last around five minutes per swig, perhaps two hours per bottle.

Nutritional Value/Allergies/Side Effects/ Purpose: Very little nutritional value. Caloric content focuses on sugars. Generally hypoallergenic. Side effects may include drunkenness and a serious need to urinate.

Description: Tincture of Avarice was created as a training tool for self-discipline. The Cult of the Iron Will would dose its acolytes with the tincture, then expose them to large quantities of gold and gemstones. Their conduct in hunting for treasure and restraining themselves from precipitous action would reflect their strength of will.

Several bottles found their way into the galactic black market. Others were looted from the Cult’s secret sanctuary on a nameless pre-technological world. After the Cult was scattered, Tincture of Avarice became even rarer than it already was.

Primary Source: The overwhelming greed function is loosely based on other Dark Side artifacts which affect mood, including the Phobis Devices, Seeds of Rage, and Helm of Ieldis. The homing instinct could be compared loosely to Force Tracking or a Dathomiri blood trail.
