Alisteri barely registered the beat of his own heart in his ears, still full of adrenaline, as Alina and her weak voice became his sole focus. Despite managing to pick her up and making it halfway across the cathedral he simply wasn't fast enough. He hadn't even really been paying attention to what she was saying until her final words and breath left her, leaving him staring down at her twisted expression as the last light drained from her eyes. "...Alina...?" All at once it seemed as if Formos had stopped turning, as if the only active moment was the one he occupied now.

There was no signs of life, nothing but a body sat in his arms now. He hadn't been fast enough, hadn't aimed his blade well enough. He had failed.

The masked man sank down to his knees and clutched the body of his friend close, his head dipped low as he still tried to listen or detect some sort of heartbeat or other sign of life but none could be found. She was gone and it had been him to strike the killing blow in the end. Despair, hatred, pride, so many more swirled in his mind as wet eyes stared at her face through the visor. He shook with the potent mixture of emotions and so did the remains of the pews aeound him.

All at once the broken seating was sent flying, crashing into the walls and pillars and shattering into splinters. His breathing grew heavy and labored as the candles lining the alcoves were extinguished by some unseen hand. And yet the runes lining the cathedral glowed a bright and dreadful red as if to mock him, as if to mock his despair. "I...I'm sorry..."
