- S-Foils: The TIE Super Hunter uses an s-foil configuration. When in an open pattern, the Hunter sacrifices speed and maneuverability for an increased rate of fire.
- Space, Air, & Sea: The Sith Covenant modified the original design by pressurizing the hull, capable of not only submerging in water but operating as an undersea vehicle.
- Improved Firepower: The TIE/hu Advanced includes wing-mounted, light repeating laser cannons not included on the standard Covenant pattern TIE/hu.
- Hyperdrive: The Super Hunter’s hyperdrive remains strictly average, and there’s no redundant backup drive if the “primary” fails.
- Complex: Like the base platform, the Super Hunter requires a well-trained pilot to take full advantage of its performance capabilities. Thus, it cannot be deployed in large squadrons.
- Expensive: The increased cost means even fewer of these squadrons can be fielded altogether when compared to the standard Covenant pattern.
The first variant of the Covenant pattern TIE/hu “Hunter” was the TIE/hu Advanced “Super Hunter.” Compared to the base platform, each Super Hunter comes with improved deflector shields, a more sophisticated targeting computer, a choice between the default torpedo launcher or a warhead launcher, and optimized power output to the four wing-mounted light repeating laser cannons.
All of this has been achieved without degrading other areas of performance. However, this means the Super Hunter is more complex, increasing the cost and production time it takes to produce every fighter.
Because of their cost, the Sith Covenant has designated the Super Hunter for specialized missions only, such as escorting high-ranking individuals or serving as a personal starfighter for Sith Acolytes and apprentices. Super Hunters may also be deployed in remote regions of Covenant space, where a single squadron may be more suitable than dedicating an entire frigate or patrol cruiser.
Regardless of how or why the Sith Covenant deploys this starfighter, the Super Hunter remains a rarer sight in the fleets. Not that you’d know from a glance, for the starfighter is virtually identical in appearance.
