A sturdily built TIE Fighter for the Mahporeem people, and meant to be a symbol of their moving beyond piecing together a planetary identity from the salvage yards their planet is known for, and beginning to forge a new, unified Imperial identity. Instantly recognizable by the shape of its wings and new cockpit design that offers the pilot a better field of vision, the TIE/as-Ascendant exudes a lethal prestige that belies its rugged construction.
Primarily constructed from materials abundantly available to the Remnant, the TIE/as was designed to readily be constructed from off-the-shelf and surplus parts at low cost. With its forgiving tolerances, any part that fits is often good enough to get the fighter back in action. Inside the cockpit, ergonomics prioritize simplicity. The avionics and targeting systems are intentionally streamlined, preventing green pilots from suffering sensory overload under a mountain of layered heads-up displays. In that same vein, the ORR designers kept the flight performance perfectly balanced and in line with most other fighters. Even when pushed to the absolute edge of its combat envelope, the Ascendant stays reliable and flies steady, without losing control or going into wild spins.
For armament, the fighter exchanges standard tibanna lasers for a quartet of Nova Cavalier pulse cannons, which fire high-velocity fusion plasma bolts. This weapon system fires further and faster than most standard lasers, proving deadly against high-speed targets. To simplify the Remnant's manufacturing pipeline, heavier munitions were omitted as the pulse cannons were believed to be powerful enough to destroy any target a fighter could reasonably be expected to engage on its own.
On the flight deck, a new networked landing control system allows squadrons to sync their descent, automatically packing the fighters into ultra-dense formations. Parking wingtip to wingtip and nose-to-tail, a commander can fit more TIE’s than otherwise possible onto a flight deck. Pilots board via descending flight chairs that lower directly from the underbelly, no boarding ladder, cradle, or rack necessary. Alternatively, the ships can attach dorsally to traditional TIE racks and external docking tubes and enter through a roof hatch, a proven technique.
