THYR KYRON
- BACKGROUND
-
Thyr Kyron is a child of Kestri.
She was born to unknown parents sometime after the Second Great Hyperspace War. All she knows is that they died. The tribemaster of foundlings thought that it had been during the Battle of Rothana, or some other event in that time period. Other whispers said that they died on Kestri during a catastrophe covered up by the Enclave. Thyr learned in her adolescence to simply not care. Kestri was her home, her vod her family, her foundling tribe, all the parenting she needed.
Like all Mandalorians, Thyr was raised to fight from an early age and was adept enough at it. But she was drawn like few to the forges. As a young child, she was caught many times deep in the workshops of Forgemasters in Tor Valum’s industrial sector. She was known as Nayr, constantly scurrying around, but she was fascinated by the craftsmanship of the Enclave’s metalsmiths. When she was inducted into Mandalorian society in her verd’gotten, she immediately chose to be apprenticed as a metalsmith.
When the Enclave’s Crusade against the Galactic Alliance began, she was a fully employed metalsmith still learning higher disciplines of forgemanship; beskar alloy crafting, advanced weaponsmithing, all skills she readily took to and mastered. All Forgemasters she smithed under were surprised by her abilities. Heightened wartime production demands provided her ample opportunity to expand her craft. In her spare time, she would study starship mechanics, industrial schematics, and any piece of tech that came across her way. She coveted the title of Forgemaster over all else.
In the wake of the Crusades, many Mandalorians splintered from the Enclave, but she continued to forge; Kestri was the only home she ever knew. But Tor Valum had declined significantly in prosperity as many abandoned Wild Space for the retaken Mandalore sector. Thyr herself felt no allegiance to the traditional Mandalorian homeworld and would never truly forgive those who abandoned Kestri.
Everything came crashing to a halt in the Vong Incursion.
The monsters that had inhabited Kestri and destroyed the ancient Clan Kyron were legends to foundlings like Thyr. But they had surged and run rampant across the weakened remnant of the Enclave. Tor Valum’s forges went dark, and hundreds were slaughtered during the breach of the Core. Thyr fought her way out, covered in blood and chitin, but she was one of the few Kestri smiths who survived the massacre of the forges.
The second war against the Vong was short, but the price was high. Bereft of much of their senior leadership and experience, it fell to Thyr to pick back up the pieces. Reignite the Forges. The title of Forgemaster was bestowed upon her, but there were no ceremonies when she did. No formal investiture. No elder left to grant her blessing. Someone had to continue to Forge.
She walked back into the ruined industrial heart of Tor Valum and cleared the dead herself, salvaged what machinery could be salvaged, and melted down to repurpose what could not. She reconstructed furnace housings from collapsed gantries and reforged crucibles from the armor of the fallen. Thyr had never before taken a Clan name, but as she emerged among the flames of the Iron Covenant, she took the only one that would honor her loyalty to Kestri: Clan Kyron. Its line had once been extinguished, but there was no truer heir than a daughter of Kestri.
Under her guidance, the forges of Kestri burn hotter than before, in defiance, in warning. If the galaxy comes again for Mandalorians in Wild Space, it will not find them unprepared.
She will be waiting.
- PERSONALITY
-
Thyr is as hard and resolute as the Mandalorian iron that she shapes. She is steady and centered, always focused on the task at hand, her concentration rarely deviating. Years in the forge taught her patience, and as a result, she often listens before speaking, is evaluative of everything before her, and tempers her anger into something colder and sharper.
She is inherently distrustful of others and has few familial connections or close friends. Thyr’s adolescence as a foundling taught her to stick out for herself and only those who would stick themselves out for her, which are few. Yet she has learned over time that trust is one of the implicitly most important things to Mandalorian culture.
Thyr has a chip on her shoulder and something to prove. She, at her core, is ambitious, wanting to be the best at her craft, and has a habit of regarding others as competition. At the same time, she recognizes the usefulness of others who indeed know more than she, and the value that she can learn from them.
- SKILLS
-
MANDALORIAN
ARMORER
WEAPONS SYSTEM EXPERT - STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
-
Forgemaster - Thyr has labored at the forges since she was an adolescent, developing physical strength and skill in her craft.
STRENGTHS
Conceptualist - An instinctual understanding of metalsmithing and technology gives Thyr a unique ability to learn new techniques, develop new technologies, and master them all.
Resolute - Thyr is steadfast and confident in herself. Few things can make her back down from a task at hand or a problem to be solved.
Ice-forged - Born and raised on the brutal winter world of Kestri, Thyr is a fierce survivalist and no stranger to adverse conditions.
-Compartmentalization- During moments of crisis, Thyr becomes cold and surgical. However, much of this transfers into everyday life, and empathy is oftentimes hard for her.
WEAKNESSES
-Distrust of Returners - Thyr deeply judges and mistrusts Mandalorians who abandoned Kestri and harbors resentment even towards those who returned.
-Overcontrol - Thyr feels the need to be in control of everything, and anything that she does not oversee, she does not trust.
-Survivor’s Guilt - One of the few who survived the Forge massacre, Thyr pours herself into her work. She feels the burden of carrying on the legacy of Tor Valum’s forgemasters and often overworks herself at the expense of her mental and physical health.
