Thrukk’s current armour is from two different sources. The basic underlay is an Asheran armorweave, provided by Saeva Inc. as part of his contract for services with them. This unique material is exceptionally durable and still light, allowing Thrukk to move freely.
The chest plate is something he’s owned for a long time. In battle with ranged opponents, protecting the chest is vital. Thrukk makes a particularly large target, his torso especially. In the workshops of his old fighting pits, the engineers decided to create him some personal armour, of which only the chest plate remains. They decided to use a light tank armour, mostly so this could be advertised as part of the bill of fights. “The walking tank” moniker was used for a number of Thrukk’s pit fights. These plates are comprised of two one inch-thick layers of duraplast, separated by a shock-absorbing layer of aluminium foam (http://www.google.co.uk/patents/US6698331)
Thrukk still used the chest plate to this day. Whilst heavy, it provides fantastic protection. Several times thicker than the armour used by stormtroopers, this can easily absorb a torrent of blaster fire or a direct strike from a light mounted mass driver - even if Thrukk might not survive the collision.
