- Internal Features
- Each Thrantin-class has a standardized internal structure featuring all the necessary stations, facilities, and amenities required to sustain short-term engagements and longer campaigns.
- Singlecraft Hangar
- Each Thrantin-class corvette has a singlecraft hangar bay capable of housing a personal shuttle or similarly sized starship. The hangar is shielded and also comes equipped with heavy blast doors as an added layer of security and defense. Unauthorized docking will be engaged by a pair of turret-mounted laser cannons located at the hangar’s entrance.
- Escape Pods
- Advanced Sensory & Comms Suite
- The Thrantin-class comes equipped with advanced sensory and communication tools. These allow the corvette to assess in-system threats, monitor hyperspace traffic, and rapidly establish battlespace telemetry ahead of - or during - active fleet engagements.
- Hyperwave Signal Interceptor
- Advanced Broadband Transceiver
- Advanced Full-spectrum Transceiver
- Advanced Dedicated Energy Receptor
- Advanced Sensor Net
- Hyperspace Tracker
- Sensor Jammer
- Reconnaissance: The Trantin-class Corvette is first and foremost a recon ship. It comes equipped with a suite of advanced communications and sensory arrays, and countermeasures to mitigate detection from sensor sweeps.
- Pocket Frigate: Because these corvettes often operate away from their fleets, they come equipped with a heavier-than-expected armament for their size and class. This is both useful as a defense measure against larger ships, but also provides the Thrantin-class an opportunity to score flanking shots when they inevitably join the battle from their outward positions.
- Rapid Deployment: With oversized main engines, a generous number of maneuvering thrusters, and a class 1 hyperdrive, the Thrantin-class can be quickly deployed throughout sectors and across the battlespace.
- Exposed Shield Generators: Although armored, a pair of highly visible shield generator domes (one on each side) make for an obvious and vulnerable target. The Thrantin-class must rely on speed and clever positioning to safeguard these weak points.
- Oversized Engines: Like the shield generators, the large size of the main engines makes them particularly vulnerable targets to enemy fire, should the corvette be flanked from the rear.
- No Fighter Bay: Without a hangar bay to deploy interceptors, the Thrantin-class can be overwhelmed by fighter-bombers.
- Standard Shields: The Thrantin-class has redundant, military-grade shielding. However, they lack any specialized shields to combat ion cannons and the like effectively.
Named for the planet that was terraformed to become the ultimate scouting school, the Thrantin-class is the mainstay picket and recon vessel across the Sith Covenant’s fleets. Designed and built by Kuat Drive Yards, the corvette shares DNA with many KDY warships. However, the Thrantin-class does away with several conventions to adapt to a shifting naval landscape.
Turbolasers instead of laser cannons, upgraded ion weaponry, and a single pulse cannon provide the Thrantin-class with “punching up” capabilities. Anti-starfighter capabilities are largely sacrificed, too, to dedicate more power to an advanced array of sensors and communication devices. The outcome is a large corvette which can rapidly deploy across any engagement, maintain a low profile, provide battlespace telemetry, and then exploit gaps in enemy formations to deliver fast, lethal blows.
None of these advantages come without sacrifices, of course. The shield generators and engines are quite exposed; there’s no fighter bay to deploy interceptors, and the shields themselves are less than exciting, leaving the Thrantin-class vulnerable on multiple fronts. Not to mention these corvettes are typically deployed ahead of the fleets they belong to, putting them at higher risk than screened warships.
Suffice it to say, the Thrantin-class is a ship best captained by the bold and clever. Too cautious, and you fail to realize the corvette’s potential. Too reckless, and you’re likely to be destroyed. It is exactly the kind of vessel that emphasizes the Sith Covenant’s doctrines and battlefield mentality: stay clever, and be prepared to hit hard when the time is right.
