Strengths:

Fire Everything! - The Mk II's weapon configuration is such that it can fire all of its capital guns and most of its defense guns from either port or starboard.

Workhorse - The Mk II is designed to be a well-rounded ship capable of performing a number of roles with at least admirable performance. It will suffer through grevious wounds and still work to perform its duty

Weaknesses:
Right in Front, Stupid! - The same feature that gives the Mk II potent broadside power gives it a noticeable weakness. Namely, it cannot fire any of its guns directly forward 30° of the ship, and can only fire its elevated hypervelocity main guns along the direct 30° aft section. As well, none of its capital guns have total 90° elevation, so the ship is similarly vulnerable from assaults directly above and below it.

What's That in the Distance? - The Mk II lacks any long-range broadside firepower, meaning it must either have fleet support while broadsiding or must greatly reduce its overall combat effectiveness to fire its meager assortment of long-range weaponry.

All About That Bass - The Mk II's engine housing is rather prominent, giving an easy target while broadsiding or while targeted by pursuing ships.

We Cannot Talk at the Same Time! - While the hypervelocity guns are firing and cycling, the energy torpedo projectors cannot fire and vice versa.

Description: After seeing ancient warships being used by the Galactic Alliance, Ayden decided to update the venerable design to modern specifications as well as put his own personal design flare onto the ship. The Thranta Mk II-class is designed to be a workhorse of a ship, rugged and capable of doing most anything from escort and patrol missions, reconnaissance, VIP transport, or engage in combat fleet support. To that end, it was given a wide variety of systems that would enable it to scan and identify targets accurately, travel at moderate speeds, of course retain a proper assortment of weapons to defend itself and engage in active combat roles.

Rare for ships these days, the Thranta Mk II was designed to fire all of its weapons from a broadside formation. Its main guns are two pairs of hypervelocity cannon turrets mounted on slow traversing swivels. Though they cannot fire forward of the ship, their elevation allows them to safely fire directly aft of the ship; something the rest of the capital guns fail to accomplish. Never the less, all of the cannons on the ship are mounted on turrets that give them 360° rotation and allow for limited ( 30° for the main battery, 45° for the turbolasers, ion, and quad cannons ) or total ( 90° for the flak cannons ) elevation capabilities. This gives the ship the ability to point virtually all of its guns onto a target along the port or starboard facing.

While it cannot fire any of its capital guns directly forward, it is not totally defenseless against targets charging it head on. Under the bridge lies a small battery of light energy torpedo projectors and a single heavy energy torpedo projector. While this might deter the smallest and most damaged capital ships from approaching it head on, this is a token armament against the majority of capital ships and thus is more often used as support weapons while they guard the flank of a fleet formation. As well, given the large power draw they both represent, neither the energy projectors nor hypervelocity cannons can fire while the other is firing or cycling.

Most of the interior is what one would expect from a military ship; clean, sharply cut, and spartan in furnishings. Most crew quarters are bunks save for bridge officers. Two VIP and one diplomatic suite exist to house suitable persons of interest on voyages of the ship. One squadron of starfighters provide a modest escort force for the frigate, but will be outgunned against larger attack forces. Their primary function is to deter pirate attacks and light raider assaults, not targeted military assaults. Otherwise, it is a fairly textbook example of starship design.
