Born Warrior: From birth he was trained in handling a sword under his father's tutelage, while also studying historic battles as well as military tactics.
Might of a Mountain: As is often the case with Valkyri, Thrand is of immense size and commands great strength enough to match, despite his age.
Greybeard: Due to his long lifetime, he's been able to gather plentiful wisdom which he imparts daily to his peers, aiding him in ruling his kingdom.
Proud Grandfather: Loves his family above all else and would go to any length to see them safe.
Stricken with Grief: Since his wife's passing in childbirth, deep down Thrand's heart remains broken despite the love shown by his family.
Ashamed: Thinks himself a failure as a son and a father upon first losing the throne, and later his two boys when he chose to abandon them on Pelagon.
An Old Man: Well over a century old, Thrand is starting to feel the weariness of old age settle in with all that it entails.

Appearance & Personality

Thrand, having been groomed since birth to rule, carries himself like a true king. The sheer size of this mountain-of-a-man may seem threatening at first glance, but he would never hurt anyone who has not wronged him. To his people, Thrand is just and merciful, greatly respected by his peers since reclaiming the throne from the Usurper who stole it from him upon his father's death. To his family, Thrand is warm and loving, always enjoying the simple things in life.

In times of solace, however, Thrand often gets stuck contemplating the many events in his long lifetime which had led him to where he finds himself; most of all his wife's passing while giving birth to his second son. He loved her more than life itself, so when she was taken from him he entered a state of depression he has never fully recovered from. He has never taken another wife or lover, nor will he. Thrand also feels burdened by his heritage, always pushing himself to make his ancestors proud, which is starting to take its toll on his health, physically and mentally.

Having spent many years on other worlds such as Pelagon, Thrand is surprisingly well-versed in the ways of non-Valkyri, which serves him well as Midvinter is now starting to see more and more off-worlders visitors after having been largely isolated from the rest of the galaxy for untold thousands of years. He is a skilled diplomat, at least by Valkyri standards, with his easy-going attitude and welcoming presence. He is often seen wearing the traditional royal garments, but when in battle he dons his father's suit of armour and wields his mighty greatsword, Dawnstar.

Pre-Roleplay Biography

Over a hundred years ago in the common way of counting, a boy by the name of Thrand was born to the High king of Midvinter. He was named the Crown Prince of Midvinter and was to, Gods be willing, take the throne once his father would pass away. As soon as he was able to walk, young Thrand would wander off exploring on his own this world he was born into, much to his mother's horror. His growing up was mostly peaceful and void of any real dangers, save for the occasional lack of successful harvests when even the royal family would have to starve. When he was old enough to hold a sword, his father Threign would personally teach him the arts of war and the way of the warrior. The two could spend many hours of the night going over ancient texts detailing battles of time immemorial like the best of friends, and young Thrand loved his father with every ounce of his being. He was a just High King, honourable and a caring protector of his people; no-one cared to dispute his reign throughout his many years on the throne, which was a rare thing.

Thrand would spend alot of his sparetime studying and honing his skills in swordplay, leaving him with little in the way of courting the maidens lining up to hopefully become the next Queen. Love was something he hadn't considered, at least not until many years later. One day he was summoned to his father's chambers, where the old High King was drawing upon his last breaths before entering Beornskald and become one with the Gods and legends of old. Threign and his son Thrand shared their last moments together that night, and before his most trusted advisors the old man once more proclaimed his only child would ascend the throne after his death. One of these advisors was no other than Beorlund the Bold, who now sits upon the throne instead of Thrand. He betrayed his liege's trust and used the many secrets and knowledge gathered to his advantage as he outmaneuvered the Prince by forging the last will of Threign Frostmane to state that on his death bed, the old King had chosen him to become his successor.
Rather than risking civil war because of his love for his people, Thrand fled offworld and left his home to the clutches of the unconventional Beorlund. He ended up on a backwater planet called Pelagon, where he at last found the love of his life in the form of a human woman. There he made a life for himself by siring two baby boys, one by the name of 'Thyrian' and the other by the name of 'Thurion'. However, while the latter was still in the womb, his beloved wife was stricken with an illness which weakened her sufficiently to claim her life during the birth of Thurion. The babe was unscathed from the ordeal, but Thrand had lost his one true love and was beside himself with grief. As soon as he learned of his wife's death, he left his home on Pelagon, and in doing so he left his two sons to fend for themselves. An atrocious choice to make, but he could not bare to look at his boys and constantly be reminded of her. He returned to Midvinter, not knowing any other place to call 'home', and went into exile among the mountaintops of the vast ranges of the North. There he now resides, a failure in his own eyes both as a father and a son.
