Kaas City
Dromund Kaas
She did not expect to ever see this place again.

After being smuggled in by [member='Alistair Fenn'], and leaving with [member='Atefeh Lorr'], Jyn felt certain that her time here was at an end. Behind her for good. But in the journey back to Aurum from the Shadowport, when Atefeh fell asleep in her arms and Jyn could do little more than sit and think, she could not help but feel unbridled guilt toward all of the poor souls she was leaving behind. The children left at the mercy of those vicious 'caregivers' who would let them rot if it meant gaining a little bit more funding.

Discussions with [member='Arekk'] after their arrival back in Azar City made up her mind.

Nobody was going to be left behind.

They had space enough in the City to bring the children of misfortune back with them. A larger vessel had been a necessity, after all the Hawk only held so many passengers and Jyn had found out through sources that there were upward of 40 children housed within. as well as permission from the Je'daii Council to make this move. Jyn and Ar'ekk would put their name forward to take over guardianship of them all, so as not to tie the Je'daii - or Aurum - up with this mess, but once they were safely in their custody that Guardianship would change hands.

The Force Sensitives among them would find a home within the Je'daii, while those who were not Sensitive would find homes within the City. There were so many people who had lost children, who could not have their own but longed to, that she felt certain that they would be snatched up faster than anyone could imagine. A few men and women had already stepped forward to house them.

Stardust had been left behind in Azar City. Jyn did not want to risk any harm to her person should things go south, so she had entrusted her daughter into the care of [member='Sahna Te'] and [member='Ignis Imura'] in the meantime. Between the two of them, and all the other Je'daii who were around and were close enough to Jyn to be deemed family, she knew Atefeh would be well cared for.

As their civilian transport vessel came upon the planet, [member='Arekk'] relayed the relevant information and documentation (which he had acquired alongside the ship itself from old contacts on Nar Shaddaa) and soon enough they were coming upon the City.

Nerves ran through her, but also a sense of necessity. This had to be done, somebody had to look out for the children.

"It will be okay."

He could feel the nervousness building up within her body, spirit requiring some uplifting words to carry out this hardous task.

Liberating an orphanage in a dark place like Dromund Kaas wouldn't be a walk in the park but if they focused enough and put all their efforts in doing so, they'd succeed.

Trust the Force and it shall guide you. The light and the darkness shall come to one single balance of things.

Their mission was to take the orphanage in a way it wouldn't bring nobody's attention which could pose a higher threat to the children held captive inside. That meant no fighting and specially no unwanted attention brought upon themselves, as much as that would hurt them.

They deserved to be punished no matter what but keeping the children safe was more important.

"We stay together at all times, no matter what happens."

Ar'ekk had left behind his light gearments to equip a full sized, custom fitted and designed heavy armor set. It wasn't like anything he used before but if they were going to a place like Kaas City they had to look the part, at least that way they would blend in with the crowd.

Soon enough, they'd be touching the ground and make their way to this forsaken place. The liberation was going to take place either way.

It was a rainy day in Kaas City, as they often used to be. The cold offered a horrible bite, worsened by the refrigerating effect of the many metallic constructs dominating the cityscape. A certain little girl was far away from the stark city, her new home offering a vastly different climate, much more enjoyable and warm. Yet not the same could be said for the children that had been left to stay within the Orphanage's walls. Atefeh often missed her friends, and though most days her happiness was too big to notice it, it was in the calmer moments that a pang of guilt hit her little heart. She hadn't even managed to say goodbye to Lirrie or Xym, her closest friends.

The orphaned children of Kaas city currently sat cramped into a room that was too small to comfortably hold them as a young, severely unappealing young man dropped blobs of porridge -at least that is what they made themselves believe it was- into the empty metallic plates they held. Saying the food was horrible was an understatement. The man known as Oogie, as the children had nicknamed him, was better at doing his job than he was at cooking, and it needed to be noted that he was a disastrous employee.

Yet hunger was hunger, and it needed to be quenched with whatever was available. The children silently took what was offered, it was not like their complaints would be met with anything but a punishing hand. Just as the man had finished serving the plates, frightening the little ones every chance he got, an even more terrifying figure entered the "dining room", if it could be called that. Madame Pyte, the old hag, owner and administrator of Sunhouse Orphanage whom the children knew to fear more than any of the monsters they believed in.

"Eat quickly you ungrateful louses!" There was really no reason to hasten the children. Just the dark content that having control over them brought to the disgusting woman.

She had been trying to get hold of [member="Atefeh Lorr"] all day.

Throughout their journey out here, which had taken weeks given that they were on the other side of the Galaxy, Jyn had felt it important to keep constant contact with their daughter. Morning and night holocalls served to keep them up to date with each other - though Jyn and [member='Arekk'] had not actually told Atefeh where they were going or why in case something went wrong - and allowed them to see her to bed. Sometimes, however, [member='Ignis Imura'] had other plans. Taking her from Aurum to visit places, late nights (though they were not so frequent that Jyn really worried) and the like. It just so happened that today was one such day where getting hold of them was simply impossible.

So she opted to leave a message instead, a holorecording.

"Good morning, Stardust, I hope you slept well. Papa and I have a busy day ahead of us, and we might not make it back to the ship in time to wish you goodnight. We can't wait to see your beautiful face again tomorrow, and we'll be heading home soon. Love you, Princess. Give Boog a kiss from me."

Once it cut she turned to Ar'ekk, face visibly more serious than it had been moments earlier. He certainly looked the part. Jyn wore civilian attire, she knew Kaas City enough to blend in.

"Together. Always."

She reached out to take his hand, just as the ship rocked to mark the end of the line. The ramp lowered, and without another word she walked toward it and out into the dreary day beyond. Surprise, surprise, it was raining. When wasn't it raining?

The lack of communication with their daughter clearly frustrated him, specially when the holocalls wouldn't go through. But they were doing this for her and for her friends, for all the children who were suffering by the hand of awful people.

A hollow term for nothing but mere animals, merciless individuals that lacked a heart. Who in their right mind would do something like this to defenseless little children?

He could feel the tension building up on him, tightening his grip on Jyn's hand before quickly realizing that the anger and hate was taking over him again. That sensation... so familiar. From past times, Nar Shaddaa nightmares. Hold back, don't go beyond that point.

A smile. That's all it took to get back to normal and he gave it to the love of his life: Jyn.

Once they were out of the ship, the rain came down pouring on them like never before. Something about Dromund Kaas gave him the shivers, eerily looking as always. He only heard tales about this place but never really stepped foot on this planet in his lifetime, the things heard from those stories becoming true by the minute.

"Where to?"

Overtaken with fear of what the Old Lady would do if they did not heed her command, the children started swallowing as fast as they could. They didn't have the time to feel the food quench their hunger and the only positive they could draw from this was that they had to keep the awful paste in their mouths for less time. The children were clearly divided into two groups: humans and non-humans, constantly at odds with each other. Yet at this moment they were all equal. And the fact that what put them all in the same shoes was fear of the one who cared for them was just a horrible truth.

These children had much to learn. From basic manners and respect for all living beings, to the warm embrace of true love and care. People could be sure that the only reason for the dark aspects of the kids' characters was due to the simple fact that children were mimickers. They adapted and copied what they thought would make them survive and prosper in their environment. And sadly for all of them, the only figure they had to 'look up to', was among the cruelest and most despicable beings Kaas city had to offer.

Once they were done eating, the man known as Oogie started forcefully hitting a metallic pan, causing a loud, harming noise to echo through the cramped room, hurting the ears of the kids closest to him. They immediately stood up and started forming a line, Humans at the front, aliens at the back. One by one, the kids returned their broken and old utensils and plates, before bee-lining back to their rooms. After eating, the children were confined to their respective living quarters for about three hours, they were allowed to go play for 20 minutes and then back to their rooms until the next day.

[member="Arekk"] [member="Jyn Lorr"]

It was time.

She took [member="Arekk"] by the hand and gave it a gentle squeeze for a moment, feeling how his anger was beginning to rise and his control slip. "It's okay," she whispered, "it will be over soon, Querido."

Naturally Jyn was the one to lead the way, after all she had been there once before, and as such she led him toward the exit of the starport where they were halted by Government Officials asking for their papers. She handed over the forged documents he had gotten hold of, and after a moments scrutiny they were allowed to pass.

Once out in the dreary streets of Kaas City she felt that bundle of nerves begin to recede. Part one was done, now to get to the orphanage.

Just a few streets away she happened upon it again, the worst building on the block, it looked as if it had been desolate for years now but no... There was life inside. Her grasp of Ar'ekk's hand tightened significantly, her hand beginning to feel warmer as her rage built up.

"We're here," she said, as though he needed her to tell him. It was obvious.

"I know. Just glad we got that out of the way, the price we paid for those documents... Let's get this over with, there's children we've gotta save."

How many times did Ar'ekk say that over the course of the years? Save people. During the war, he saved as many people as he could. Children, elderly people, women. It seemed like this would never stop and felt powerless. Even then... as a Jedi he was taught to be a keeper of peace and justice. This was another moment to save those who needed it and Ar'ekk stood up once again, despite whatever happened in the past.

All this rage contained within him dissipated once Jyn took hold of his hand as she always did, he brought her peace and serenity to his body and heart. Once they reached the entrance of the orphanage, memories flooded him like it always did. Flashbacks of his childhood, an awful one at that, in a similar place like this.

"I remember telling my adoptive mother that I'd rescue all the kids from my orphanage once I could... I wasn't able to do it back then but now? I'm glad we can do it together."

Holding tight to his beloved's hand and caressing her soft skin with his thumb, Ar'ekk gave Jyn the warmest of smiles again. Like always, they were together to do a greater good. Coruscant, Red Dragon, Nar Shaddaa, Aurum, now Dromund Kaas. It was beautiful.

"Ready?"

The children, now each in their respective shared rooms, flopped on their bunk beds. Some remained sitting on the not-so-clean floor, chatting or trying to come up with games to kill time. The scene was very heart-wrenching, as though seeing young buds of flowers to constricted by their surrounding to bloom, and show their true beauty. Breathing in the dust, sleeping in mattresses that barely managed to stay together. Even that bright flicker of hope that shone within every child seemed to have dimmed. This place was taking away the very best of them, slowly and steadily.

Very far away from all this sadness, a little girl who now knew both infelicity and happiness was getting back home. Tefie had been staying with [member="Ignis Imura"], and going out to explore Azar City had become one of her favorite activities to do while she stayed with the young man. The first thought in her head upon crossing the door had been to go check the commlink, to see if mommy and daddy had sent her anything. Indeed they had, and with a big smile on her face the child starting typing out her reply, with help of Ignis.

Inside the orphanage, the disgusting caretaker turned around and started stomping her way back to her office, the only decent room in the whole building. She was completely oblivious to the events that would go down today in her institution, if it could be called that. Just as she was about to plunge the key into the office's door, the voice of an equally unpleasant fellow interrupted her: Oogie. "There's people at the door. I think its that same crazy woman who wanted the ugly child." He said. Immediately knowing who he was talking about, Madame Pyte made a gurgling sound much akin to a growl and angrily made her way to entrance with a stance more akin to that of a rabid rhino than an elderly woman.

[member="Arekk"] [member="Jyn Lorr"]

Before the woman could reach the door Jyn had already pushed it open and was walking into the foyer.

She had not answered [member="Arekk"] - it wasn't that she was trying to be rude or anything, simply that she did not want to have to think about anything other than the task at hand in that moment. She figured he would understand, she hoped he would, yet the moment that she lay eyes upon the horrid owner of the orphanage she quickly realized that it did not matter anyway. The battle had been brought right to them, and there remained no time left for idle chatter.

Her hand tightened in his for but a moment, before she dropped it and stepped forward. Her eyes bore into the woman, she who Jyn had wanted to slap right in her lying, disgusting face from the moment she had seen her. That wasn't good of her, or professional, in fact it would likely do little more than get them into further trouble. Get the city police on their backs and make it impossible to leave again.

"Call him" she said to Ar'ekk, her voice low, speaking of the contact they had in place to take over the orphanage when all was said and done. Best to have him close by ready for when the establishment was turned over to their control. Then she stepped closer to the woman, eyes boring into hers.

"We meet again; gather the children please. All of them. Cut the crap and just do it."

She knew the woman was going to scoff, laugh in their face, tell them no, but something in Jyn's eyes brokered no leeway and she brushed aside her robes to reveal her lightsaber and show how serious she was. Much faster to the draw this time than she had been with Tefie.

She meant business.

"On it."

Doing as instructed, the Knight cautiously placed his index underneath the vambraces of his heavy armor to toy around with a digital interface, dialing their contact in Kaas City. This wouldn't necessarily call him right away but provides the individual with an exact location, a brief message and timer. This would give them enough time to deal with whoever's coming until the contact arrived from wherever they are at right now.

Ar'ekk stood behind his beloved, standing guard and keeping a keen eye out for any trouble. This lady seemed to no good, it reminded him of the very same people who took care of him in the orphanage. Old, awful people with delusions of grandeur. Parasites with a lack of human decency.

Sweat beads dripped from his forehead as the tension built up between the trio, something felt off and he usually followed his instinct. A man who had seen war and death could smell and recognize danger from miles away. Tugging Jyn in the shoulder gently, he made her know how he felt about the entire ordeal. This didn't feel right.

Jyn revealed the lightsaber clipped on her utility belt to show this old woman that their presence had to be respected. The man's hand hovered over his crossguard lightsaber as well, ready to be wielded when the moment was right. Scanning the place around, Ar'ekk couldn't detect any type of threat just yet.

They could've been hiding pretty well, places like these are usually heavily guarded or have individuals working inside with the capability of killing any stranger that wishes to extend a helping hand.

Madam Pyte could not quite believe the words that escaped the young woman's mouth. She had already been having a hard time dealing with the loss of the income the hybrid child represented, it was a deep blow to the base of revenue she had established. These people were messing with her business, the one she had put a lot of work to build, even if nowadays all she did was ensure she always had a handful of live children around and abuse the credits she was given for it.

"You little, insolent rat." Wrath had taken over the old hag, and her rabid eyes didn't even seem to linger too long in the lightsabers that threateningly hung from the Je'daii's hips. The woman was seeing red, and her deluded ideas of power and importance bit away at the little measures of self control she sometimes imposed on herself. After so many years abusing the young, it was easy to forget messing with adults was not as easy as doing so with vulnerable children.

"You think you can come in here, order your way around, huh?" Her words were full of anger and snark. "Well let me tell you something, you wannabe heroes, if you don't get out of my institution right now I will call the authorities and have you locked down for threatening a government worker and her children." It was easy for Pyte to speak as if she was in a stance of control when ignorant to what [member="Jyn Lorr"] and [member="Arekk"] had planned. Her threat would have usually been enough, it help the necessary elements to support it, but today was a different one. Today life was going to change, the Je'daii had enough determination to see it be so.

In a moment of unseen action from Jyn, something [member="Arekk"] had never before witnessed, the woman stepped forth and launched her hand out to grasp the woman by the collar of her shirt, pulling her upward from the floor with the strength even she did not know she truly possessed, a byproduct of her Epicanthix heritage, eyes boring into her. It had taken every ounce of willpower Jyn had not to grab her by the neck.

"Now you listen here, these children are not your property they are innocent souls you use to sap money from the government. They do not see so much as a credit of what you're earning, the credits meant to go on them. If you knew the issues the doctor found with Atefeh..."

By this point her skin had begun to flare up, lines of magma running where the veins ought to have been, her skin ashen, and her whole presence fiery and warm. Ready to combust, but not quite there.

"Well if all you care about is the credits, considered yourself set for life. I've arranged for your retirement. A moderate sum of money will be deposited into your bank account each month, enough to see you in a home with food and warmth and clothing. More than you gave the children, and far more than you deserve."

Her eyes had been completely engulfed by the flames, boring into the old woman, and a moment or so later her head snatched to the side to stare at Oogie.

"Get me the children. Now. Have them pack their things, I don't want them here any longer than they need to be."

With that she dropped the old woman back to the floor, and glowered down at her. Had she had less restraint she felt certain the woman would be dead right now, but that would not help their case. The last thing she wanted was for the children to be terrified, or for the authorities to stick their nose in.

"The children who are already here are coming with us. You'll go to your office and prepare the paperwork, and my friend here," she nodded to Ar'ekk, not bothering to state their relationship status in that moment as honestly that would only give her leverage over them, "Is going to accompany you to make sure there's no funny business."

Now that the terms were laid out, terms she would be hard pressed to turn down, Jyn finally focused on her breathing and allowed the anger to disperse. Her skin slowly began to return to its usual state, the magma receded back into blood, and finally her eyes turned blue once again.

No way the children were going to see her like that.

How fierce, how empowering.

This side of Jyn had never flourished in his presence so far but he knew what she was capable of, a strong person like her who had seen the worst things in life could only react to a situation in that way. He knew far too well that sensation, the burning rage building up in your core and waiting to burst out in any minute.

But then comes the realization that whomever stands in front of you is not worth your time and you calm down just like she did right after.

When her skin began to prickle and veins turned into blazing red-hot, Ar'ekk became slightly worried yet kept his cool since the man knew she could keep her composure. Once the lady was put into her place and was ordered to do as told, the Knight stood behind Jyn with his hand almost touching the lightsaber on his belt. Danger could be just around the corner and this little confrontation could rub someone off in the orphanage.

Placing his hand on Jyn's shoulders, Ar'ekk tried to give his beloved some words of relief by whispering near her ear so she could only hear his words,

"We're close to putting an end to this."

His eyes then darted on the woman laying by the cold floor, shaken around the place she felt in control of like the vile dog she was. If only Ar'ekk could spew out the words coming up in his head, things would get pretty ugly quickly. Of course, he held back all that anger in favor of the children about to be rescued from this hell hole.

The Knight himself was once an orphan, separated from a younger sister he never met until twenty seven years later. All this tough-guy, warrior facade was nothing but a mere fake wall to hide that little child who never grew up with a happy life.

But today, that would change forever. That little kid who once swore to help those who suffered just like he did would accomplish such promise with the person he loved the most.

This was for Jyn, for little Tefie, for him and most of all...

Them.

It had only taken a second for all the obstinate resolution of the old hag to dwindle into nothingness. A gurlged, slightly scared noise jumped from her throat as Jyn lifted her. It was then Madame Pyte realized this was no human, she was an alien, a monster. The fire in Jyn's veins seemed to seared through the owman's eyes into the very depths of her soul, cauterizing the oozing place from where the deluded thoughts of grandeur sprung from. Yet though she was humbled and scared, hate and disgust flared rampant within the despicable caretaker.

Oogie had gotten a chance to see the exchange from afar, and the sudden noise of a hastily closed door gave away his escape. The coward had ran while he could, clearly scared away by the Je'daii. Once [member="Jyn Lorr"] let go of her grip on her, the old woman did not manage to find her footing on time, falling onto the cold, dirty floor. From her seated position, flaming eyes met those of Jyn. They were yellowish and glazed over with tears of either fear or spite, it was clear that the woman was trying with all her might to find within her the will to retaliate. But she couldn't.

Pyte nodded weakly, containing the tears that threatened to escape her eyes as she stood back up. The wide frame of the old woman started walking then, something broken within her. Feeling powerless after so many years of being in control opened a void within the woman, and she could do nothing but hold back her desperation and curse the one child responsible for this. Once she reached her office, followed by the looming frame of the male Je'daii, the woman started working on the needed files.

[member="Arekk"]

She appreciated his words of encouragement, yet outwardly all she could do was nod due to the present company. Again, she had absolutely no desire to reveal their relationship to this horror of a woman.

"Make sure she adds both of us in as Guardians for the children. I'm going to go gather them up and have them pack their things, since beast two scampered off."

With that she left Ar'ekk to follow after the woman and ventured through the building herself until she came across one of the dorms inside which too many students had been stuffed. Overfull wasn't even the word for it, the room was bursting at the seams. It was filthy, the bunks were rickety and looked as though they might collapse at the slightest gust of wind, and toys, books, and possessions were few and far between. Most of them broken and torn in some way or another.

The kids looked just as down-trodden as Tefie had, though those who were human did look a little more well nourished and their clothes appeared less tattered.

Gorramn Xenophobes.

"Children, I need you to begin gathering your things," she informed them, eyes falling over those present. Among them was a young Ithorian boy ([member='Saok Mahl']) as well as a couple of other 'alien' children whom she recognized from Tefie's descriptions. She offered them a small smile of reassurance. "Your time here is at an end: all of you. It's time you came home."

He pushed the woman into the office, stepping on her tail as she wiggled towards the door and opened it for the two of them. Keeping a keen eye, Ar'ekk made sure the old lady didn't make any sudden movements. With a lightsaber a close reach, doing such thing would only mean she could not have an open casket funeral.

"Hurry up and get the documents ready. Move a single finger the wrong way and I'll slit your throat."

In times and with people like these, you couldn't really hold your emotions back. The man had gone through the same hardships as those little kids did, growing up in a filthy residence with awful individuals taking "care" of them every day and every night. He could remember the screams of his friends suffering as they were beat up during the night as they slept...

Savouring the taste of cold blooded revenge, he held back and made sure not to break in rage.

His eyes followed the woman in front of him as she opened several drawers and withdrew what seemed to be some very important papers and signed documents with the stamp of some officials of Dromund Kaas. Signing off at the end of each paper would give them complete control over the orphanage and this twisted mind finally put out of business.

"Good, now step aside and put your hands where I can see them."

Reaching for the papers, Ar'ekk tucked them inside a small backpack he brought along for the journey but not before checking them out to make sure everything was in order. She only relied to watch him take his precious operation away just like that, it was over for her.

"We are ready," he informed Jyn through the commlink.

By the time that Ar'ekk's voice resonated through her commlink the children had all of their things gathered.

Most of them looked confused, outright dumbfounded, while a couple glared angrily toward her. Perhaps they did not understand what was happening, perhaps some of them had been favourites of their so-called Guardian and were worried that they would now be subjected to worse treatment than they had come to know, and perhaps some of them were still holding out on the hopes that their birth parents would come for them.

Regardless, it mattered not, in the end they were stood out in the hall when the papers had been signed. Clutching pillowcases with their few possessions. Some families had already been lined up to take the non-Force Sensitive children, while those with Sensitivity would be brought to Padawan Kesh a few weeks after their arrival on Aurum. They needed to be checked over by their medical team, after all, and given the all clear before they were moved around.

"Ready when you are," she told him through the established link, "Have the ship readied for take off, we should leave as soon as we reach it."

Shorty after relying the message to Jyn through the commlink, Ar'ekk escorted the old lady back to the main hall where all the kids would be. It's better if she stayed in their sights until everything was ready to go, the ship was prepared to escort them out as soon as they got out of the orphanage.

Pushing her over to one of the chairs nearby, the man gave her instructions with a cold tone,

"Sit down and stay silent, got it?"

Looking up, the only thing the Knight could see was a bunch little chidren in empoverished conditions. Innocent small creatures who deserved nothing but love and care were mistreated, heavily punished and pushed around by individuals who dared to call themselves human.

Disgusting.

"Everything is set. We can start taking the children to the ship, if you want me to keep an eye out let me know. She won't escape my sight."

Rage built up inside his core, burning like a furnace at a thousand degrees. Something told him to control himself and he tried so hard to not break, lose his control.

The always consuming taste of delicious revenge continued to be present in his mind but for the sake and security of not only himself and his beloved but the children, he had to focus on the task at hand.
