"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

I think there are a few things that I could do to make you realise how to truly relax.

Katarine rolled her eyes in an exaggerated way at his comment, playful but standoffish enough not to be inviting. The only thing that was truly going to make her relax was the darkside and since that was out of the question she figured it was time to focus on the job at hand.

“Trust me this isn’t on my dime. I think someone must have pulled some strings.” It seemed like the sort of thing Connel Vanagor Connel Vanagor would do, but that thought only made her flinch at the mistake she’d made with him. She sighed and switched tasks to drown out the thoughts.

As Ced started to set up the surveillance equipment she pulled out a scanner from her bag. She walked up and down the room, scanning the walls, the light fixtures, and the smoke alarms. The device read all clear, which meant the place wasn’t bugged.

With a pang she remembered that Dean had been the one to show her this trick. She sighed and pushed the device into get pocket, trying not to think about that mistake either.

At some point she had to learn her lesson… didn’t she?

“Bug free.”

"Must be nice to have friends in such high places then." Cedwyn chuckled as he finished sorting out the surveillance equipment, just checking all the positions were correct and that everything was already in good focus. He leaned back in a chair and looked over to Katarine, "guessing it was a boyfriend of yours or something then. Making sure you are well taken care of during this." It was a light tease but also testing the waters and seeing where the relationship status for the attractive Jedi Master was.

He couldn't help himself and they were going to be sharing a room for a long time.

Seeing Katarine pace around and search for all the possible locations for a bug, it was clear that this was not going to be someone who would be comfortable with staking a place out for any real length of time. But it was good to know that nobody placed any bugs around the place since neither of them were paying for the suite. So, there was a higher chance of there being some bugs around the place. "Good job there, get a nap in if you want."

Removing his jacket, he draped it over a chair and the short sleeved shirt revealed tattooed and scars arms, signs of someone who saw plenty of combat and near death experiences. Fingers combed through his white hair, Cedwyn looked over to Katarine. "Or if you wish to check the set up, you can do that too. I am guessing you like things in a very precise manner." He winked to Katarine in a not so subtle, flirtatious manner. With a gruff chuckle to follow. Cedwyn gave a stretch and grabbed his bag of supplies and clothing, slowly taking items out and carefully placing them around.

Making sure things were neat and orderly. A sign that he was also someone who sought things out to be very precise.

guessing it was a boyfriend of yours or something then. Making sure you are well taken care of during this.

Katarine snorted at the comment, mostly to hide her own pain. “Jedi don’t have boyfriends. We are celibate monks.” Or at least they had once been. This time periods Jedi humped like Loth-cats from what she could tell.

Or if you wish to check the set up, you can do that too. I am guessing you like things in a very precise manner

Katarine felt a wave of guilt wash over her and smiled apologetically. “Sorry. I’m not always a b!tch.”

She sighed, realizing that partnership was about like marriage in the sense that whatever was hurting one person would hurt the team in such close quarters. She may as well at least admit why her guard was up and why she was throwing herself into her work.

“Truthfully I did just go through a break up. Kind of kicking myself for making the same mistakes over and over. I swear I’m usually better company.”

"No boyfriends. Only girlfriends then, I get it. Resisting the charms of a beautiful lady is very difficult to resist." Cedwyn teased, he looked over to Katarine and shook his head with a sigh. "Interesting how the Jedi don't even know their own code sometimes. Where does it say in that Jedi Code of yours that you must be celibate? If Jedi are suppose to be celibate, how come I could spend all night long listing the Jedi who have clearly not been celibate? And that wouldn't even be listing the Jedi of this era." His voice was calm but critical, picking out carefully the issues he had with how Katarine described the Jedi.

Cedwyn's eyes narrowed, he could see the judgement on Katarine about how she saw the Jedi of more recent times. It was plain to see but it was not like these things did not exist before, that Jedi lived their lives without intimacy or bonding. However, his gaze softened when she apologised. "It ain't gunna be easy, especially since I am what people charitably call a dick at the best of times." He laughed a little and watched as she looked over the equipment.

Placing a hand on her back and gently rubbing her back in an attempt to be soothing. "Well, unfortunately for you, this is what a lot of people call my nice side. So, maybe you can help soften me up by showing me what it is like to be fun." He winked to Katarine as he let his hand linger on her back a little longer than he had planned on leaving it there.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

“Attachment is forbidden for a Jedi. Some people cannot separate emotional attachment and physical pleasure. I think the ones who say they can are wrong and a better practice would be to avoid all of it.”

She shrugged and started looking over the equipment, though it looked like he had set everything up correctly.

She flinched slightly when he rubbed her back and quickly danced out of his reach before any weird force feelings could linger.

“Whelp this is about as fun as I get.” She chuckled. “Back in my day the Jedi didn’t really take a lot of time off. Now they have their own homes, their own families, tons of possessions. Unfortunately you got stuck with the old school version.”

She walked back to the table in the room and picked up the room service menu. “Eating is allowed though.”

"If attachment was truly forbidden then the Jedi would not have a Master and Padawan one on one training system. That closeness, that teamwork invites bonding and attachments." Cedwyn countered, "friendships would not be allowed within the Jedi, since that is an attachment." Another point that Cedwyn desired to make that demonstrated the flaw with the attachment is forbidden argument. Attachments were natural.

The flinched was noticeable and it reminded Cedwyn that Katarine had mentioned she felt the Force alignment of another person through touch. There was a deep pang of guilt that he had forgotten that and realised that he needed to hold back there on the touch. "Sorry, I forgot about sensing a person's alignment... The Dark Side within me... must be painful to feel." Thinking that was the reason for Katarine to flinch when he went to touch her.

Cedwyn chuckled and shook his head, "nah, I think you have a fun wild side to yourself, a side where you let the hair down... Metaphorically so to speak." Cedwyn smirked as he admired her once more, "I'm sure there will be a chance to see it during our partnership." Watching her pick up the menu and look at what to order.

"What style of food catches your eyes then?"

Sorry, I forgot about sensing a person's alignment... The Dark Side within me... must be painful to feel.

Katarine felt guilty when he said the darkside must cause her pain. If only it were that simple. The darkside made her high and he wasn't truly dark, so for her it was like putting a nicotine patch on after you had quit cold turkey for years. It was just enough to make her truly want a hit of her drug of choice.

"It's more complicated than that, sadly."

She pushed through the menu, glancing at the seafood section first because it was her favorite. "The icefish salad is what I'm getting." She handed the menu to him.

"I figure tomorrow we can go out and chase leads but we are probably stuck in for the night."

Cedwyn didn't pry on why it was more complicated than the fact he was far from the ideal Jedi style Force User. It was likely something very private, difficult to share. There were likely a lot of reasons and Cedwyn understood that sometimes an issue was too painful, too private to just explain to a random person that you had just met. Cedwyn leaned back in the chair and shook his head when Katarine mentioned getting the salad. "Come on, being in a hotel room like this, with a menu this fancy and you are just going with a simple salad?"

He grabbed the menu and looked over the menu, "there's lobster here! Fries, steak, fancy steak... Some spicy foods, noodles. Nope, you are not ordering a salad." Handing the menu back to Katarine, "be bold, be daring Kat." He winked to her as he shortened her name in a friendly manner similar to how she had shortened his before.

"I'm thinking of doing a surf and turf. Get some lobster, some steak. Maybe some spicy noodles for a kick of flavour as well." Cedwyn mentioned, giving an idea of how to be fancy and bold in terms of dishes to order and not limit what they could enjoy this evening. "And I am sure there are some dessert items you want as well. If we are stuck here tonight, then you best get a dessert too." He winked to her.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

Katarine laughed and shook her head. "I'm a simple woman." Though when he started talking about dessert, she had to admit he had a point.

"Okay you talked me into chocolate too.... and fries.... and whatever this alcoholic pink thing is..."

She hit the electronic menu and entered what she wanted, and then slid it to him so he could do the same.

"I do wonder who is footing the bill for this though. Maybe the Jedi have gotten a lot more rich since I was around before." The menu hadn't even tried to charge them. Clearly someone had already taken care of things.

After a short wait their food arrived and the server brought it in and sat it on the table, then left them to their meal.

He waited and added a couple more items and a couple bottles of wine. In case any of the food or additional drinks would be something that Katarine would enjoy trying. When the food arrived, Cedwyn gave a modest tip but one that would be seen as large given how modestly he was paid for the work he did. Cedwyn brought the food to Kat and slid next to her. Very close to her in order to eat the food.

"Well, you said the owner of this hotel was a relative of one of the victims, and you had reached out. Perhaps they wished to help us." Cedwyn suggested as he tidily sorted the food out on a table, making sure that there wasn't going to be a mess. He popped a bottle of red wine and poured them each a glass. "Something to share for a blossoming partnership perhaps?" There was a teasing, flirtatious grin on Cedwyn's lips as he made the comment while handing a glass to Kat.

The Echani then began to eat his food in a clean manner, not really making a mess and demonstrating the controlled, efficient way that he approached life.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

Katarine accepted the wine and shrugged. "Maybe we will get lucky and crack this case early and then you can get back to working with real cops."

She took a sip of the wine and set the glass down, then picked out the berries from her salad to eat first in a very OCD way. She didn't normally eat like that, but her nerves were on high alert for some reason.

"So tell me, partner, what do you do when you aren't working cases? Do you have a family that might be missing you while you're off on undercover assignments?"

She figured they may as well start interrogating each other since it was going to be a long night.

"And miss this view?" Cedwyn mentioned while looking at Kat, "cops tend to not be as pleasant to be around as yourself." He chuckled softly with a wink before carefully consuming his food. Noting that there was a similar level of OCD from Katarine as himself, he didn't want to make a comment or call it out since it was nice to see someone else approached things like he did.

When asked about family Cedwyn nearly choked on the bit of steak that he was eating, swallowing it carefully, the Echani shook his head. "Goddesses, no. I... I am not the type many women see having a future with. Given how focused on work I am and how closed off I can be. At least, that's what I've been told." Cedwyn chuckled as he looked over to Katarine.

"So, this recent break up... Care to tell me more about it?" Cedwyn asked as he offered a sympathetic smile.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

"And miss this view?"

Katarine gave him a half-exasperated, half-amused smile. "Are you always this bold around women who carry a lightsaber?" She grinned, more amused than annoyed. He certainly seemed to be enjoying himself.

He mentioned that it was hard to settle down and work this life and she nodded. She understood that. He asked about the breakup, and she sighed, glancing down at her plate and pushing the chunks of grilled fish around.

"It wasn't serious or anything. We just didn't work. To be honest, I don't ever let anything work in that department. He isn't the first person I've pushed away over something small. He had this little puppy, though, and I really miss them both. But last I heard, he's found someone way more compatible so I think he's happy. Or at least I hope he is."

She shrugged and pushed a piece of fish into her mouth, chewing it carefully.

"We are both better off. I sincerely enjoy my life more without the complications of romantic distractions, and he's found someone more his style. I just hope she lets me see the dog sometime."
She laughed.

Cedwyn shrugged his shoulders as he kept his gaze on her, "only when I think there could be fun mixed with the danger. And I think sparring with you could be a lot of both, which intrigues me a lot." He poked his tongue out to her, being flirty but also not wishing to cross a line and upset the Jedi Master. This was just a fun way to break any tension or the ice.

Nodding his head, "I have had lots of those in the past. Sometimes, casual flings or cutting things off before they get too emotionally attached is the best approach." Cedwyn commented, "I tend to avoid anything that lasts longer than a month, but that's my own issues surrounding commitment." He saw himself as bad news and dangerous for anyone to be attached to.

"Perhaps, but I would suggest avoiding swearing it of all together. You never know, you might find the right person at any time." Cedwyn mentioned, "makes you realise that you wanted romance all along." The Echani ate a couple bites of steak and lobster, delighting in the taste of food that he would never normally be able to afford. "Any other questions you got, Kat?"

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

"If I have to kick your ass I will."

She nodded as he explained his month cut off and gave it some thought. "A month seems like it's a good time limit. Or just do it the old Jedi way and be friends with benefits. At least that's what they say the Jedi used to do. I don't think it worked out well, though. That whole Order 66 thing, you know. But truthfully, I've done the whole find your person thing and I'm over it. That isn't what I want in life anymore. Seemed foolish to ever be a goal of mine."

She grinned and sipped more of her wine. "Hmm do you ever think about doing any other type of work? Or do you think this is it for you and you are living the dream?"

"Don't promise me too much of a good time Master Jedi, I saw the gym facilities when we wandered in here." He winked to Kat.

Cedwyn raised an eyebrow, "friends with benefits. Now that is a thought. Hard to find someone willing to maintain the friends part." Cedwyn pointed out, "but I wouldn't argue against it. If the right woman offered me the chance." He chuckled deeply, "well, Order 66 happened for a number of reasons. I doubt the nail in the coffin was that some Jedi were having some fun stress relief."

"Not living the dream, just attempting to restore the balance." There was a furrowing of Cedwyn's eyebrows, thinking on the harm he had done when he was with the Sith. The mask of that life still with him, the marks not only permanently on his skin but on his soul. "I haven't really found what in life is something that I love, or an end goal for me. Just making sure I do this."

Looking over to Kat, "what about yourself? What is your dream? Can't be doing this for the rest of you life."

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

She listened as he spoke about his uncertainty and balance while she sipped her wine. She could tell he was carrying some emotional scars as well. She supposed with a galaxy at constant war it was only logical that everybody would be messed up in some fashion.

"Honestly, I do think I'll just do this until I drop dead. The galaxy is full of criminals so it's not like I'll get bored or run out of cases."

She sighed. "Besides, I've got some things I need to balance out as well. Guess we are two of a kind."

He drank his wine and nodded his head, it was understandable to dedicate a life to fighting crime and making things safer for citizens when you are a Jedi. But he did hold some concern for Kat. "That can never be all you are. You have to exist outside of it." Cedwyn warned as he finished the glass of wine and started to pour himself a second one. Looking to see if Kat would desire another glass of wine as well.

"I spar and do some bounty hunting work on the side, good for extra cash and keeping my skills up to what they need to be." Cedwyn commented as he looked to Kat, "you will need to figure out hobbies and ways to blow off steam. That isn't just chasing more criminals." He mentioned, "even if that is just letting someone give you a massage so you can actually relax."

Finishing his meal, Cynan pushed the left over food towards Kat so she would eat some more.

She supposed now that she thought about it she really didn’t have any hobbies or interests outside of her work. It didn’t really bother her though. She felt fulfilled when she wasn’t trying to be somebody else.

“I do more than crime solving. I’ve also built a school to help train padawans. That has kept me plenty occupied.”

She ate a few more fries but that was about all she felt like eating. Instead she pulled her knees back up against her chest and rested her head on them.

“So how do you want to do this stakeout? Take turns sleeping? Round the clock surveillance? “

Shaking his head, "that isn't something for you. That is just more stress, you need to find something that is for you. That is yours." Cedwyn cautioned as he knew all too well what it was like to just not exist beside the job.

When asked about how to approach the stake out, "up to you. This is your mission and I don't want to compromise this for you. My recommendation would be to take shifts. Gives us time to rest and have fresh eyes on the surveillance at all times." Shrugging his shoulders as he leans back as he looks over to Katarine.

"What is your thoughts on surveillance?" Taking a drink from his goblet.
