Blackmire Investigation - Issue # 1

The briefing room lights were too bright. They always were. Katarine Ryiah sat at the far end of the polished durasteel table, elbows resting just shy of its edge, fingers loosely interlaced as if holding herself together by habit alone. The hum of the overhead panels pressed against her temples, a low, constant reminder that she hadn't slept, not properly, in days. Maybe longer. Time had felt… different since the thaw.

Carbonite did that. It stole more than years. It left fragments behind.

Her reflection stared faintly back at her in the darkened surface of the table, eyes rimmed red, shadows pooled beneath them like bruises, her expression pulled thin with exhaustion. She looked older than she remembered being. Not in years… but in weight. In everything she carried now.

The Blackmire case had done that.

It had started clean. Contained. A series of disappearances on the lower levels, quiet, almost forgettable to anyone not paying attention. But Katarine had paid attention. She always did. And what she'd found buried beneath it… patterns, echoes, something that felt wrong in the Force in a way she couldn't quite name, it had unraveled fast.

Too fast.

Too complex.

Too big for one person to hold together.

Which is how she ended up here.

The headquarters of the High Republic Police Force was all glass, steel, and quiet suspicion. Order built on structure, not intuition. Logic over instinct. Jedi didn't fit comfortably into that equation, and she could feel it the moment she walked in. The glances. The hesitation. The subtle tightening of conversations when she passed.

They tolerated her.

Barely.

Even when she did her best to dress casually they still marked her as a Jedi the moment she walked in. Katarine exhaled slowly, her gaze drifting toward the closed door across the room. Somewhere beyond it, decisions had been made about her, about this case, without her in the room. That part hadn't changed. It never did.

Still, they'd agreed to help.

One agent.

That was all they were willing to give her.

Her fingers tightened slightly against each other.

One.

Not a team. Not a task force. Just one person, whoever had drawn the short straw badly enough to be assigned to a Jedi investigation. She couldn't decide if that meant they were incompetent, expendable… or dangerous in ways their superiors didn't want to deal with.

Or maybe just unlucky.

Katarine leaned back slightly in her chair, closing her eyes for a brief moment, letting the Force settle around her like a shallow breath. Beneath the fatigue, beneath the strain, she reached, quietly, carefully, for any sense of what was coming.

Nothing clear.

Just tension.

Fractured. Uneasy.

Not promising.

Her eyes opened again, fixing on the door just as footsteps approached from the other side.

So this was it.

Her partner.

A faint, tired edge of a smile touched her lips, more reflex than amusement.

Please don't make this harder than it already is.

Because the Blackmire case wasn't just complicated anymore.

It was spiraling.

And if she was right...if what she was feeling in the Force was real...

She and her new partner were going to be in over their heads.

It had been years since he last worked with a Jedi. The former mercenary, now officer of the law, was still adjusting to his role. No longer carrying his rifle, his Lightsaber, his sword to missions. While he had them prepared for anything too dangerous. Cedwyn knew that he couldn't use them on police duty. Too many eyes, too many assumptions on who he would be if he brandished one. Instead, he kept to his two pistols, heavy blasters that were holstered on either side of his hips. His boss dropped the assignment on him, told Cedwyn that there was work to be done and that a Jedi needed local authority assistance. And since Cedwyn had Jedi experience, that was where he would be assigned. The Echani male sighed tiredly, staring down at the documents as he slowly examined the information before the upcoming meeting.

He was definitely going to need a smoke with this one.

Pulling out a cigarette, he flicked the lighter to ignite, hearing his boss groaned. "No smoking in the office, come on, Cedwyn."

"Yeah, yeah. I'll stop when you stop dumping last second Jedi cases on my desk, how about that?" Cedwyn sarcastically commented back as he rose from his desk, taking and long inhale of smoke, slowly exhaling the smoke. Grabbing his badge and the datapad, he continued to read the files and walk to the meeting with this Jedi. One Katarine Ryiah. Some Jedi Investigator. Title usually given to Jedi who liked to jump into business that was not their concern. Or at least that was the viewpoint that Cedwyn had on them for now. But he was also fairly suspicious of most Jedi. His experiences with them were beyond mixed.

Entering the room, Cedwyn was still smoking, "so. Master... Ryiah. Master Ryiah, you are claiming that there is something going on with a number disappearance happening." Cedwyn was still flicking through the datapad, trying to figure out the evidence and links that were being made to ensure that this was worthy for investigation and not some people either missing to evade debt collectors or something, or runaways. "What's the connection here that you are seeing?"

It was perhaps something Force related and Cedwyn had cut himself from the Force for a number of years now. In part, because the morally grey approach to life he took, the Dark Side powers he connected with. It was all too corrupting for him.

MQuVmKe.png

Katarine Ryiah felt him before she saw him. A presence at the edge of the room. Not closed off entirely, but… quiet in a way that suggested choice, not absence. When the door opened, her gaze lifted. He wasn't what she expected. Shaggy white hair, falling just enough out of place to suggest he'd stopped caring who noticed. The unmistakable symmetry of Echani features, sharpened by time and experience rather than softened by it. Stubble traced along his jaw, giving him that worn, rugged look, the kind of man who had seen too much of the galaxy and kept moving anyway.

And chose to stay standing, she noted silently.

Her eyes lingered for a brief moment before she settled back into stillness. "Just Katarine is fine," she said evenly. The smoke didn't escape her notice. It rarely did. But she let it pass without comment. Instead, she reached beside her and lifted a small stack of physical files that were thin, and worn at the edges, their age unmistakable.

"These won't be in your system," she said, stepping closer and placing them in his hands. "They predate most modern archives, but I thought it would be easier if you saw them directly." She waited just long enough for him to register them before continuing.

"You're right that the current cases look like runaways," she said. "That's how they were classified then, too." Katarine moved to the side of the table, activating the datapad to display the recent disappearances.

"Every forty-eight hours," she said, aligning the timestamps. "Localized interference. Individuals with low-level Force sensitivity, unregistered, undocumented." Her gaze shifted back to the files in his hands. "It's the same pattern as before." Katarine's posture remained composed, but something in her tone had shifted in a subtle, but undeniable way.

"That case was investigated centuries ago," she continued. "The perpetrator targeted Force-sensitive drifters. People who wouldn't be reported missing. They were taken, studied… experimented on." She let the words rest there, unembellished.

"The killer never made it to trial. He died when we tried to apprehend him."

Her eyes met Cedwyn's directly now, steady and unflinching. "Those files have been buried and lost to time, but we never released their details to the public. Whoever the copycat is is digging up a long cold case in order to get my attention. I am the only person alive today who worked that case."

She sighed slightly, but then let her deep green eyes meet his. "The connection Detective Blaidd is me. Someone is trying to get my attention, and they are leaving a trail of bodies to do it."

He noticed that she did not seek him to respect the Jedi title. Curious, he hadn't known many Jedi who were against being referred to by the title. Cedwyn slid into the chair, looking at the worn stacks of information. He took a deep inhaling drag of the cigarette, he blew to the side, avoiding to throw smoke in Katarine's direction. "Bad habit I know, but between this and drinking... I prefer to keep a level head." Coping mechanisms were not always healthy but sometimes necessary.

"Given that these archives are ancient, how did you come about them?" Cedwyn was curious since there did not seem to be any age markers that reflected that Katarine was old enough to be around when the documents were first created. However, Cedwyn had seen enough of the galaxy to know better than to merely assume one was not old enough to have been at their creation and still maintain a youthful expression.

Stubbing the cigarette out on the table, he wiped the ash onto the ground and flicked the butt into the bin. Shifting through the documents, his eyes were scanning around the information, listening to what the Jedi Master was saying while also absorbing the new information that was being put forward. His work as a mercenary was something that allowed him to be more critical when going over documents, taking note of the important things while also making sure to note that things were not always obvious.

Going over the documents, he sighed, "if they were going after you, there would be more than one sign. When copycats are attempting to mimic work or draw attention to a particular person, they leave markers, clear signs that person will find. These cases, hmmm..." Cedwyn sighed, "these cases seem more likely to be this formerly dead killer. Otherwise why would someone mimic the killings of someone dead for a very long time ago? Especially mimicking a style that was fairly low level in notoriety."

"No offense, but this isn't something that makes galactic news, even if it is a serious matter." Cedwyn lifted his head up to Katarine, he then closed the files and leaned back. "Even if they were trying to lure you in, why give them what they want? Why do what they want?" Cedwyn asked, the case could get solved without Katarine, so why did the Jedi feel the need to get herself involved. "Surely there are bigger galactic issues you could be solving?"

MQuVmKe.png

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."
"Given that these archives are ancient, how did you come about them?"
"It's a long story, but I assure you I obtained them legally." She didn't know how much of a stickler for the rules he was yet. Most officers bent a rule here or there to bring justice, but Kat had obtained these records the straight and narrow way so she hadn't done anything wrong, yet.

She listened to his analysis and nodded. Everything he said made sense, but Katarine wasn't sure how the man could come back from the dead. Then again, she'd been declared dead by the Jedi once upon a time. She supposed anything was possible.

"Surely there are bigger galactic issues you could be solving?"

She sighed and nodded again. "That is an even longer story, but honestly, I saw the original killer die. In fact, I killed him myself. If this is him... that means... all these victims... its because I didn't finish the job."

Her throat tightened a bit and she swallowed hard. She knew most cops would understand when a case just got to you, though Katarine let far too many of them get to her.

"The truth is, Detective Blaidd, I think this case is related to a long-term case I've been working on for over a year. I need help, but the Jedi are, as you say, busy with galactic affairs, and the police agencies are hesitant to sign someone up to be a long-term partner with a Jedi."
Partnership was a lot like marriage in these instances. You were constantly cramped together, having to share deep personal things, seeing each other around the clock, and at times you had no opportunity for modesty. She understood why police officers were hesitant to get involved with a Jedi in such a deep way. Most of them mistrusted Force users completely.

"Sure, I wouldn't suspect a Jedi to go around stealing old documents. They tend to not really work in the grey like the rest of us." Cedwyn smirked and chuckled. He had once trained in Jedi ways but had also been forced to train in Sith ways as well when enslaved by one. It left the detective lingering in a grey space where he was willing to do what he considered necessary evils to ensure people were saved. Some Jedi might consider him a villain or a danger to those around him, but Cedwyn did not see himself in that way.

Hearing that Katarine believed that she had previously assumed that she had killed this serial killer, Cedwyn nodded his head. If this was the exact same person, then either he had survived for a long time, same as Katarine, or something else was going on. Perhaps a ghost possessing the body of another, meaning the mind and memories were of the killer but the body was not the same. That would be one of the strangest cases that Cedwyn would have worked on but not an impossible situation to consider. Seeing how hard Katarine was taking this, Cedwyn shifted from his chair and placed a hand on her shoulder. Giving it a comforting squeeze.

"We all have cases that stay with us. Ones where we think we could have done more. Done better." Cedwyn mentioned in a sympathetic tone, giving a wry smile as he looked down at her. Hoping his presence would be somewhat comforting on that matter. "Well, I say all. I have a perfect record, no problems." A sarcastic dry laugh left his lips, hoping to lighten things a little.

It was understandable why some police were reluctant to work with Jedi. The Jedi held powers that a Non-Force User could never match and that was always going to make them stand out. Difficult to work with when there was a mysterious, magical force that was beyond the comprehension of the lay officer. Cedwyn was a Force User himself, he held no such concerns over that. "Well, if you don't mind smoking, lots of caf and perhaps the occasion joke about how you are too pretty to stick around a scumbag like me. Then you can consider me a partner in this case." Cedwyn chuckled at his own self-deprecating joke.

"Call me Cedwyn too. Not a fan of titles myself." Titles always reminded him of darker days.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

Katarine was surprised when he reached out and squeezed her shoulder. People were usually too frightened of Jedi to initiate physical contact. She blinked as she felt the Force swirl around her. It wasn't dizziness so much... as a faint pulse. She frowned, her eyes narrowing for a fraction of a second before she shifted in her seat on the pretense of getting comfortable. The moment his touch was gone the feeling stopped. She bit her lip, studying him as he continued to talk. Was he a Force user?

He mentioned having a perfect record and she laughed, the sound musical even when she never meant it to be. She was surprised he was so willing to work on the assignment with a Jedi, but maybe her luck had panned out today.

"Cedwyn then."
She smiled and started collecting the papers she had scattered on the desk, putting them in a neat stack. She scoffed at his comment about her looks and grinned. "Yea well if this whole Jedi thing doesn't pan out my backup plan is modeling so you know fingers crossed." Her voice was sarcastic but she grinned.

"Well if you want we can visit the medical examiner first but I don't know that he will have anything new to say that isn't already in this report. I've got a lead and I've set up a surveillance operation in a casino on Cantconica. The owner of the office across the street is a very distant relative of the guy in the original case. It's not much but it's a start."

Stakeouts were never fun, but at least they could do this one in a motel room. She'd once spent an entire week in a speeder and hadn't been able to stand up without her back hurting for weeks.

Cedwyn smirked when Katarine said his name, he enjoyed hearing her saying it, there was a softness to the way she spoke that attempted to break down the cold bitter walls he had built over the years to protect himself. Cedwyn didn't let the thoughts linger though since he knew it was far too important to protect himself over indulging what could be a one singled attraction. He let out a chuckle, his voice deep with a rumble to it. "Well, as long as I get a free calendar to show everyone we did work together once. I am sure either way, you will be fine."

Hearing the options, Cedwyn leaned over, looking over the files from above Katarine. His sharp features and chiselled jawline gave the impression he would be someone arrogant about his attractive good looks. That he would be someone used to charming his way through conversations. However, his silver eyes were haunted with pain, suffering and a fury that had been through years of torture. His steel eyes gazed over the documents and he nodded his head, "I concur, revisiting old medical records from a mortician's mouth isn't going to really help and he has already done his reports for the more recent ones so we have everything that we get from those."

Thinking on the stake-out option, Cedwyn chuckled, "well if you think you can handle being one on one with me in a stake-out then I am down." Cedwyn gave a quick wink to her before he grabbed the documents into a pile. "What we hoping to catch during this stake-out?" Cedwyn was curious what the casino could be a lead for, but he was sure that Katarine had some plan forming in her mind, he was just hoping to understand it a little more so that he knew what to look out for when it was his turn in keeping watch.

"When did you want to get the stake out started?" Cedwyn looked down to her, leaning on the table.

MQuVmKe.png

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

She was glad he seemed to accept her opinion about the medical examiner. This was going a lot more smoothly than it usually did with cops. She wondered again if that was because he was Force sensitive. She made a mental note to ask him when they had time.

"What we hoping to catch during this stake-out?"

"The last victim had a casino chip from The Black Raven. It's a casino on Cataconica. I looked it up and it's right across the street from an office building that's owned by our killers' long-time descendant. That seems like too much of a coincidence not to look into. I want to set up surveillance on the upper office. If we get a room at the top of the casino, we can see right in. I also want to check out the casino itself and see if anything weird is going on."

It could be a dead end, but that was how investigations went. She was sure he knew that.

"When did you want to get the stake out started?"

"We may as well go now. I assume you have a to-go bag packed and ready?" Most cops did after all. "I've got a small ship in the hangar. Nothing fancy, but it has a droid pilot that can get us there."

She felt a pang in her stomach as her mind drifted to the ship Connel had given her. She didn't want to use it in fear that someone would realize it's connection to the Vanagor family. She didn't need to give him another reason to be angry with her.

Nodding his head, the lead made sense and he could follow the logic. "Sounds good, could be that he is taking in the pleasure of returning to the scene of the crime or mocking the deceased's descendants by stalking them." Cedwyn mentioned as he stacked the files neatly and handed them back to Katarine since he figured that the Jedi Master would want keep the documents close with her. Especially since this case seemed very personal to her. Cedwyn nodded his head, "right away can work."

"I just need to grab a couple extra items from home." His mind lingered on his other gun and his Lightsaber. This mission sounded like it could get dangerous enough for Cedwyn to need it and he would rather have it and not need it. Then end up getting regretting the fact he didn't have his. Cedwyn noted that there was something she felt a little bad about. "If you prefer, I got a ship, not the largest but it would give us some space before being stuck in a room together for who knows how long."

It was an offer since he assumed she was not going to be thrilled about spending time around him, he was not someone that Jedi would normally get along with. "Choice is yours, I'll meet you at the docks." He gave her a final wink and left the room, heading to his chief to explain the mission and his absence for the foreseeable future. He grabbed the to-go bag he had in the office and headed to his dingy apartment to grab his Lightsaber and his rifle. Holding the Lightsaber, there was a deep sigh to Cedwyn, it had been years since he last touched the weapon. The training had not faded but he was not sure if he was deserving of wielding such a blade again.

The last time had led to a revenge mission against those who had enslaved and tortured him. Hatred had pooled so much into the blade that it had nearly turned red. Luckily he had managed to suppress it last second but now he was holding again.

"Hopefully it isn't needed." Cedwyn muttered to himself before heading to the docks to meet up with Katarine.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

Katarine accepted the files from him and noticed he seemed to pick up on her mood. This was another indication that he might have empathic Force abilities. Maybe that's why this was going so smoothly. "Sure, your ship sounds great." She smiled, not wanting to control this whole mission. Besides Katarine was the worst pilot to ever pilot (Except maybe Spark Vallen) so if somebody else was willing to drive that was fine by her.

She gathered her to go bag, which she'd brought with her, and headed for the docks. As she walked she found her mind wandering back to the case details. She had become a little obsessive about this case in the last few weeks, and it was starting to show in her shoulders and her eyes. She met him at the docks and tried to smile.

"So.. which one is yours?"

When Cedwyn arrived in docks and spotted Katarine, his Echani origins noted the tense shoulders. It was obvious that Katarine was carrying a burden with this case not just mentally but physically as well. He wasn't sure if she would be open to his assistance in combating this but he would have to find the time to offer help, Cedwyn figured that they would both want to be at their best during the case, especially if they have to fight/chase the killer.

"This one, nothing special or fancy but it will get us where we need to go." Cedwyn pointed to his ship. The ship was rugged and clearly an older designed ship but there was space on the ship for multiple rooms and avoided a tight squeeze for the pair. "There's a training room, medbay and a couple beds. Before I was working here as a cop, I did a few jobs that meant I was in space for extended times. So, this became home." Cedwyn explained as he lowered the ramp of the ship.

Stepping onboard the ship, Cedwyn walked past the work bench and main hub room towards the navicomputer and the cockpit. "Cataconia, going to take a couple hours. This hunk of junk isn't the fastest in the galaxy but sturdy." Punching in the coordinates for their travel, he slid into the pilot seat, with the co-pilot chair available if Katarine wished to sit in it. Or explore the ship if she desired that. Cedwyn began to fire up the engines and do some checks to ensure the ship was still in decent condition for flying since it had been a while since he last had the time to go off world with the ship.

Take off went smoothly, while Cedwyn was no ace pilot, he was very capable and used to flying this ship.

"Cataconia, going to take a couple hours. This hunk of junk isn't the fastest in the galaxy but sturdy."

"Fine by me." She shrugged and followed him up the ramp. "Jedi are nothing of not patient."

Once they were inside, she slid down into the copilot's chair and curled her legs up to her chest, resting her head on her knees. Katarine was a tiny woman, standing at only a bit over 1.5 meters so the gesture made her look quit small. She watched him go through the calculation stuff quietly, as experience had taught her it was better to let people think during this. When they were up in the air she figured it was safe to talk.

"I was going to ask you.. before... when you grabbed my shoulder... I felt.... "
She frowned and realized telling people what you felt the Force sometimes freaked them out. "What I mean is, do you know if you are Force sensitive?"

Cedwyn found himself distracted with admiring the way that Katarine positioned herself in the chair. It was cute and she looked comfortable in a way that he couldn't help but enjoy. However, he forced himself to ensure that they got in the air and out of trouble, coordinating with the ship to jump into hyperspace and not crash.

When Katarine stumbled into asking about his connection to the Force, Cedwyn chuckled softly, "I suppose I have limited my connection well but not well enough then." Giving a vague answer initially that he knew he was Force Sensitive. "I grew on Eshan for several years till some Jedi from an isolated enclave discovered me and offered to train me. It was an opportunity that my parents thought would be better than anything back home." Cedwyn stated, pointing to his to-go bag.

"One of the things I grabbed at the apartment was my old Lightsaber." Cedwyn shrugged, "I try not to really use the Force or any of the training from back then..." Cedwyn was avoiding the mention that he had been a Sith for as many years as he had been a Jedi. Done things that would like have Jedi like Katarine see him no differently to the criminal that they were chasing. "Guessing you could sense the connection I have to the Force then?" Cedwyn looked over to Katarine as he leaned back into the pilot seat.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

She glanced over at him, listening as he spoke. So he had trained as a Jedi... but that wasn't all she had felt. His presence was darker than that of a Jedi, but not so dark that it made her mutation go into overdrive. He did not elaborate on his life after being a Jedi, but she had sensed enough to guess that the story had not ended happily.

"Yes, I did. Its easy for me to sense alignment, especially when someone touches me." She did not elaborate in fear of dragging more out of him. This partnership would be easier if they knew each other a little and were comfortable, not forced to dwell on things they would rather not.

"So Eshan? I've never been there. I met a Jedi from there, though." Her mind drifted to Lily, and her nostrils flared slightly in agitation, remembering how the woman had flirted with her last partner. She felt the echo of a chuckle in the dyadic connection she had with her twin and chose to ignore it, though her agitation increased.

"Sense alignment through touch... Handy ability there." Cedwyn commented as he knew that his greyness was something that Katarine would have detected. Something that probably should be addressed, and while Cedwyn had handled the Sith, the memories of that time were still difficult. Still painful. "Well, given that then, I was trained as a Sith Assassin as well. Abducted as a teenager but a crazed Sith assassin cult that slaughtered everyone else in the Jedi temple." Cedwyn spoke in a colder tone, a tone that came from the trauma. From the icy, uncaring attitude he developed while brutally trained to become a weapon of death.

Shaking himself free from all that, warmth slowly returned to his voice again. "Yeah, not been since I joined the Order. Heard it has changed a fair bit since then." Giving a shrug from his shoulders, "this ship feels more like home than Eshan would. How about yourself? What got you into the Jedi life and where you from?" Cedwyn asked, deciding enough spotlight had been on him and curious to know more about the attractive woman sat next to him. Breathing in deeply, he settle the nerves of his mind remembering the horrors of the past.

Sometimes he wished there was a way to wipe that time from his memories. Forget he ever endured all of it.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

Katarine could tell this was a painful topic for him and she mentally kicked herself for brining it up. She reached over, wondering how she could comfort him, then thought better of it and wrapped her hand back around her legs.

“I’m sorry you had to go through that.” Her voice was genuine. She knew all too well what it was like to belong to a group you wished you didn’t.

“I was born on Ansion but I don’t remember a lot of it. I started training in the Force almost immediately after birth.”

She figured there was no need to go through the sordid story of life in a dark Jedi cult. If they were lucky it would never matter.

Cedwyn shrugged his shoulders, "it is life. We all go through difficulties." He was sure that Katarine had her own troubles and traumatic events that shaped the person she was now. While he wasn't going to pry, it was clear that they were lingering on her mind from the way she held herself in the moment.

"Interesting, perhaps you will get a chance to go back Anison. Enjoy some time there and find your roots. If you desire that." Some didn't wish to linger in the past or concern themselves with what it was. Instead focusing on the present and the future. Cedwyn found himself that it helped to know where one came from to know where things are going and what shaped a person to what they are.

Pulling the ship out of hyperspace, Cedwyn took a look at Cataconia. "Find a dock in the city and then make our way to the spot." Cedwyn stated as he switched to more manual controls. Piloting the ship smoothly as tehy descended to the planet. "Perhaps once we are inside, you can find a way to relax, could be a long time till the target arrives, so relieving that tension you got is crucial." Cedwyn commented in a calm, nonchalant manner.

It was up to Katarine if she wanted that relief or not.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."

Katarine chuckled when he mentioned she needed to find a way to relax. She glanced sideways at him and grinned. “Trust me Ced this is as relaxed as I get.”

Once upon a time the nickname would have meant something, but Katarine had sworn off feelings after her last breakup.

They touched down on the docks and after a short speeder ride were at their destination. When they walked into the casino / hotel Katarine whistled lowly. It was extravagant, even if she hadn’t been a monk who owned very little.

They checked in at the reception and a bell hop actually helped them take their bags up a giant golden lift, right to the top suite. When they stepped out into the room she couldn’t believe it was as fancy as it was.

She tipped the bellhop and he left them to it. She immediately crossed over to the large window and glanced out, pointing to an empty executive suite across the road.

“That’s what we want to be monitoring. Couldn’t have asked for a better room.”

Cedwyn gave a wink to Katarine, nothing overly forward or at least not meaning to be. It is just what a person considered their most relaxed state was far from a very relaxed state.

"How about you get settled while I sort out the equipment and take first watch." Cedwyn grabbed his bag and pulled out some surveillance equipment, beginning to organise everything.
