SPECIAL FEATURES
Redirection Crystals and Blast Tubes allows the owner of a Wingman to fire at the Wingman, who will then redirect the shot at a different trajectory. The choice of using Dallorian Alloy rather than less heat resistant and more brittle material for the blast tube allow for it to be used multiple times, rather than a one and done assassination tool.
Wingmen are able to be controlled fully manually or partially manually, either controlling their exact trajectories or giving a rough ‘goal’ trajectory which they will calculate and achieve of their own volition.
Strengths:
+ Redirection Crystals and Blast Tubes allow the owner of a Wingman to fire at the Wingman, which will then redirect the blast along a different trajectory path.
+ Blast Tubes are made from Dallorian Alloy intended for extended use, rather than to break for covering assassination tactics. This allows a wingman to go a few thousand shots without blast-tube replacement.
+ Repulsor based travel allows the Wingman to travel in 3 dimensions, and thus redirect shots in three dimensions, with ease.
+ Wingmen can be manually controlled through a wrist computer, or given a target goal such as “Shoot target X from the left.” and will compute a suitable trajectory for simple commands.
Weaknesses:
- The entire droid is not a redirection crystal, and strong levels of accuracy and precision are required to use the droid without damaging it. Even good shots require practice to use the Wingman with accuracy and precision.
- Even if the Wingman Owner is a good enough to use a Wingman without damaging it reliably, the function of the Wingman make it impossible to use with shielding technology, and difficult to use with reinforcements. This means if the opponent discovers what you’re doing, the Wingman can become an easy target.
- While the Wingman is swift enough to move effectively and can calculate trajectories as necessary it is not able to calculate probable trajectories of more than one position at a time. This means that it cannot predict the firing patterns of opponents, and is often not swift enough to avoid being gunned down.
- Kael is a blastersmith, and while redirection crystals and Blast Tubes are right up his alley, droid design is not. The Wingman is not especially intelligent or knowledgeable in anything than it’s defined function, and is more akin to a moving computer than an actual droid.
- Kael is again a blastersmith and not a droid-builder. The Wingmen come installed with free anti-slicing software of a decidedly middling variety, and are prone to a keen slicer disrupting their motor functions, trajectory calculations, or taking control entirely.
DESCRIPTION
Kael Rose has found that modern Jedi are uncannily good at blaster deflection. Slugthrower design is often not as powerful as a blaster, and those that are often prompt excessive costs and/or recoil in comparison. Therefore Kael has made a small business of making blaster that make it increasingly difficult for lightsaber deflection. Normally this takes place by building an innovative blaster design, but after discovering redirection crystal and blast tube technology, Kael found a new method in evening out the playing field.
The concept of the Wingman is simple. Take a droid, give it a redirection crystal and blast tubes built for multiple use rather than immediate destruction(as was made by Imperial Assassins in time’s past) and make it hover at different points in a combat situation. Each “Wingman” used creates a new potential firing late, further testing lightsaber user’s reaction times and dividing their attention. Normally a man can only shoot at a person by going straight at him, but what if he could shoot at his left at the same time? Or directly above him? Or at an angle behind him? With the Wingman diversification of firing trajectories is now possible for a single shooter.
Trajectory input is controlled through a wrist-mounted datapad. Manual input requires picking a point around 30 meters of the user and setting a height of up to 10 meters from the ground, along with picking a target through a small laser market that comes through the side of the computer. Simple commands can also be programmed prior to combat, such as “10 meters to target’s left, 5 meters above target, 8 meters in front of target.” These inputs can be put in rectangular, spherical, or cylindrical coordinate schemes, along with certain degrees of tolerance, such as 45o right of target, +/- 5o.
While the design may be all Rose, it’s not necessarily all sunshine. The intent of the droid prohibits the use of shielding technology, and implementing the technology with tougher metals than durasteel has proven cost-prohibitive for Kael’s current manufacturing capabilities. A good shot from a foe could disable or destroy a wingman, while an accomplished slicer could discover there is a wireless connection between the user’s wrist datapad and the droids and exploit it. Overall the design isn’t perfect, but it affords the gunslinger a variety of new options against high-priority targets.
