Racing Grounds

Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva

Oh, pod racing, what an entertaining and delightful event....

And potentially deadly as well.

The thought of such a thing didn't entirely scare Aiden, more so on the side of caution. He wasn't the best pilot in the world. While his sister Addison definetly took that roll, he could only imagine how things would go while traveling on ground level and incredibly high speeds. He was sure his force nature would guide him, he wasn't about to test that theory today.

The Naboo Republic had received word that a piracy issues revolving around the fuel reserves from Malastare were being stolen and production and such disrupted because of it. Aiden was simply sent in to monitor the issue and ascertain the truth about what was going on exactly. If anything was a more discerning nature they would send in more aid in a rather secret manner. They didn't want to spook the pirates and have them flee. The endgame goal was indeed to arrest and process them if what was being reported was indeed true.

A few day of surveilance and he noted a few of them would be here on the racing grounds today, Aiden of course blending in dressed more as a smuggler than anything else. He would have to thank Kalantha Kalantha for helping him choose a decent looking smuggler outfit. Granted nothing new, but something to say he had been doing this for a while.

It would be a few minutes before the race would start, and he took a seat among the many other species that were there today.

s5F70bs.png

The full vibrancy of the Zeltron hadn't been on display when Aiden chose his seat. Tufts of pink over a light blue top and bottom might have been noticeable, but her rump had been presented as she'd been fiddling with something down low. A moment later she straightened up with a big smile and settled back into her seat. She giggled and said something in pass to the person on her right before a tray of snacks drifted back into position in front of her.

Why, of course she used her technical acumen to build things to make her life all kinds of comfortable! Why not? She also held killer parties because those were a lot more fun than people trying to shoot each other. If they wouldn't come to Zeltros, then Cali was on a mission to bring a little of Zeltros to them! So, floating snack tray.

After she popped a kernel of corn into her mouth, Cali turned her bright eyes to the left to stare at Aiden Porte Aiden Porte as she slowly chewed the kernel. This was his chance. The opportunity to get a word in edge-wise with the pink Zeltron seated nearby. Not that he had any reason to, but it was his chance. Because when it passed...

"Heya." Cali seemed to beam all the brighter with her smile directly squarely at the man nearby. "My name's Cali. Do you come to the pod races often? I don't always get the chance, running around as much as I do, but it's an exciting sport. I especially love all the different designs and work that goes into making the faster, most stable swoop - pod - thing."

Did he not want to talk? Who didn't want to talk? It was a public event. People should talk. Especially before the race began -- that was, like, the only time to talk. You only talked during the race if the race was boring, and swoop was rarely boring. Ultra-rarely.

Oh, she kind of felt the Force-resonance stuff or something. Cali didn't much pay attention to that. She also felt the man was focused. Couldn't tell on what, but his emotions were just sharp -- not turbulent or jovial, just really really... there. Or not there? Emotions were hard to describe for a Zeltron. Like someone describing what it felt like to breathe. It just happened, ya know?

Aiden Porte Aiden Porte

The fact was, that he did notice her. His eyes glanced her way as she took her seat but then immediately went back to what she was doing. She seemed to be.....

Outgoing? Vibrant? Pink?

Nevertheless, the Padawan did have a job to do, but what was wrong with a little chatting with the locals or even just travelers that were coming for the races. For all intents and purposes, that what everyone would assume he was doing here today. But she seemed to want to engage in conversation which Aiden wasn't opposed to. It would help him blend in more if there were any watchful eyes on him, not that there should be. But in today's galaxy, one could never know for sure.

"Hi!" Aiden looked over to her and flashing a nice neat smile. "It's nice to meet you. My name is Charles." Was it necessary to lie? Probably not....

And could he have used a better name than Charles? Probably, but that's where roll of the dice landed.

And he couldn't take any chances, at least not right now. "I've been here a few times. Passing through and need to refuel my ship so I decided to stay for a race or two and make a wager." He looked back towards the race as it would be kicking off any moment.

"Have you ever been down to the pits? Or operated one of these pods before?" The Jedi asked curiously, continuing the small talk, perhaps if he could deduce that she was a friendly. She might even be able to assist him.

Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva

s5F70bs.png

"Charles. Nice to meet you." Cali grinned. Aiden didn't look like a Charles. Not that there was any point saying that to his face though -- that'd be super awkward.

Oh? Stopping in out of convenience was it? Well that was a perfectly normal thing to do. That's what Cali was doing. Sort of. Mostly? "They got quite a line-up today," she bobbed her pink head in agreement. "Should be exciting! Have a favorite to win?" A hand rummaged about in a pocket before she produced a slip to show she'd already put a wager down.

"The Pits? Of course. Crews like to talk, you know? You start in about some new, top of the line engine or spoilers, and they'll just go for hours." Okay, maybe it was Cali that went for hours, but most of the time she didn't have trouble holding their attention and getting lots of replies that fueled her chatter. "Even worked on one here or there."

Her head tilted to the side after a second. "Never driven one though. Not in a race. Used a speed bike; that was pretty fun. How about you? Have you ever flown one before?" Why would she ask? Because that was the only way to find out if he had, of course, and then they could keep talking about piloting and stuff. If he hadn't, well there were plenty of other things to talk about -- like the upcoming race.

Aiden Porte Aiden Porte

Aiden looked back to her and shook his head with a chuckle. "Nah, nothing that my eyes would have seen." If he was to spend money, he had to make sure it was absolutely worth it. And majority of the time, at least to him it wasn't. But there were those hidden gems that would surprise you from time to time. The Jedi looked over to her card that she flashed and gave a slight nod and flashed a smile again.

"I wish you good luck." Aiden smirked as the conversation shifted once more to the pits and the pods themselves. "I've been down once, my father took me a long time ago. I asked if I could have one and he said no and bopped me on the head for asking." He spoke in a teasing manner, well at least the bop on the head part.

"I've never raced a pod before but a speeder bike yes, several times in fact on Naboo." Aiden sat back in his chair as the countdown began and in a few seconds the race was fixing to start. And soon the roaring of the crowd would begin, that would force Aiden to speak in a slightly louder tone.

"Do you know a lot about Malastare?" He inquired looking back to her.

Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva

s5F70bs.png

The Zeltron at Aiden's side giggled. "They can be pretty expensive," she agreed. Especially if you were Pro and trying to get big on the scene. Not to mention the whole slamming into a rock face so fast you literally won't know what hit you. Wasn't a sport for the timid. Or those seeking long life expectancy. Could earn fistfuls of creds though if you were good. Really good.

She regarded 'Charles' with wide eyes. Speeder bike racer on Naboo? They have biker races on Naboo? Well Cali had been in the city so much that probably wasn't where the good stuff was. Something to look for later!

Where there were racers there were people in need of a good mechanic. Especially one that could minimize that whole... slamming into a rock thing.

"Malastare?" Cali smile went from unabashedly warm to neutral as her head flopped to one side. "I know some about it. It's important for someone like me to know where customers, friends, and party members are from, you know? Helps make conversation." She blinked and then suddenly hopped in her seat. "Oh, you said you were here for fuel! Is that why you mentioned Malastare?" After all, it did seem kind of out of no where. Unless he was about to say that had a rockin' race scene.

Aiden Porte Aiden Porte

"They can be pretty expensive,"

"Incredibly expensive." He chuckled as he thought about such things. He couldn't even imagine asking his parents for something like that during his youth. They'd probably look at him like he was crazy, especially his mother. And his father would be just as surprised. He spent much of his youth in the archives, studying, reading.....a bookworm he was.

And now look at him, on his own during an undercover mission.

There was a part of him that seemed very nervous upon arrival, but that quickly went away faster than he thought it would.

Perhaps he was growing as a person, in fact he knew that he was.

"Oh, you said you were here for fuel! Is that why you mentioned Malastare?"

"Yes of course, there any trouble going on that I should be aware about." The Padawan sat up in his chair as the race began, he was about half engaged in the race. The screen came up that would show what actually couldn't be seen completely.

"How much did you wager?"

Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva

s5F70bs.png

"Hmmmmm," Cali hummed far longer than was necessary as she swayed side-to-side. Her bright eyes stared out over the track below before she threw her hands up into the air with the start of the race. She gave an encouraging cry for the drivers to 'Go!' before the Zeltron settled back into her seat with a giggle. Most of the race would be seen on projected holoimages, of course, since the racers were moving way too fast to be anywhere near crowds.

Aiden-Charles' question drew the bright eyed, Pink One's attention again. "Huh? Oh," her head tilted up and to one side for a second, "I dunno, thousand?" The Zeltron shrugged, not worried whether she'd win or lose.

"Malastare. Malastare. Right, right. I don't think I heard anything big. Well, nothing that'd break the flow of fuel. Might cause some delays. Long as you aren't, like, investing in futures or whatever though you probably won't even notice it. Lots of places have reserves to smooth out that kind of thing." Did Charles know stock market stuff? Did he care? Well, she'd throw it out there and see if he did or not. Maybe he'd have questions. Cali might have answers. Sometimes. She'd at least have consoling hugs if the man was leveraged for some reason.

Aiden Porte Aiden Porte

"I dunno, thousand?"

"That's not too bad." The Jedi Padawan spoke as he looked over to her and he winked.

"Malastare. Malastare. Right, right. I don't think I heard anything big. Well, nothing that'd break the flow of fuel. Might cause some delays. Long as you aren't, like, investing in futures or whatever though you probably won't even notice it. Lots of places have reserves to smooth out that kind of thing."

"I see." Aiden voiced as his hand raised to his chin. And he glanced at the screen and he cringed slightly as a pod already had a malfunction and broke apart. Luckily the racer wasn't to badly hurt.

"There you go, dangerous." Aiden chuckled lightly as he glanced from her and to the screen.

Try his best to be subtle, throwing in some stuff in his conversation as often as he could. Aiden could only keep up pretenses for so long, cloak and dagger was not his game. With further training with the Intelligence Bureau perhaps. Just as he had heard Lorn say many times over, that he was a soldier.

Aiden was beginning to think that he was indeed just a soldier too. His heart told him he was more than that though. And there was Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva , someone whom he had just met. And he was enjoying this new and brief conversation with her. While it was just an exchange for information, it still felt like this was going in the right direction.

"What about you? What do you do? If you don't mind me asking?" The man who was Aiden, disguised as Charles spoke to Cali.

s5F70bs.png

Charles cringed, but Cali threw a small fistful of popped corn into the air. "What? What's the pit crew even doing?" the Zeltron shouted as the crowd cheered and groaned alike. She settled back with a shake of her pink hair. "Just no self-respect there. Falling apart like that." Some might be strapped for creds, but if they were that bad off they shouldn't have taken to the field. Imagine if it had happened from the stress on the first turn with them slammed right into a rock wall!

Bright eyes swiveled to stare at Charles before Cali bobbed her head. "Very. Makes it unpredictable, but racers shouldn't just... collapse. It's supposed to be a display of engineering and skill against engineering and skill. I kinda feel sorry for the pilot." A huff of a sigh followed suit.

A big grin sprouted when Charles asked about her personally. "Build all kinds of things! Big. Small. Whatever is electrical or mechanical really. Droids, starships, planetary power generators. And when I'm not doing that I'm totally hosting some mind blowing parties. Gotta bring a little of Zeltros out to those that don't know about it, can't afford it, or just don't understand it's okay to take a brake from all this galactic hubbub, ya know?"

Aiden Porte Aiden Porte

"I guess that all depends on the pit crew, right?" The young man said with a small smirk. You essentially paid for what you get. He was sure that most of these racers would have a well established crew, especially for races of this caliber.

Aiden turned to look back to her as she spoke about what she did, and it was quite a lot. He listened attentively, with taking in a small glances towards the screen, and he couldn't help but chuckle at the situation with the driver. Who looked to throwing a really big fit, and it was quite understandable.

And she mentioned Zeltros, and it then crossed his mind that she was a Zeltron. He should've picked up on it right away for.....obvious reasons. He blamed it on the overthinking about the situation at hand, and making sure he didn't miss any cues with anyone else around them.

"You must be quite the hand to have in someone's corner. I truly applaud your skills." Aiden said with a nod and easy going smile towards Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva

"Perhaps, I'll experience one of these parties of yours sometime." He said in a playful manner, and he looked back towards the screen. Perhaps he would give her a heads up about who he really was. The Jedi Padawan caught wind of the group from surveillance as they sat together close to the front.

"Forgive my discretion Cali. I suppose I should be honest, my name isn't Charles, its Aiden." He glanced back to the screen, to keep up appearances in case he was spotted, which he didn't think he was. As his targets eyes were glued to the screen, and exchanged a glance to each other in the mix, either talking about the race or something else.

"There is an pirate group here that is stealing fuel reserves. I'm tasked with putting a stop to it."

s5F70bs.png

"Well, I guess so. I think most people tend to call me a handful instead of a hand though." Cali replied jovially followed by a grin. Just because she never seemed to respond to everyone's exasperation -- really, her cheer was good for their soul! -- didn't mean it wasn't heard. "Anyways, I always get the job done."

Charles-Aiden's interest in a party really spoke to the Zeltron, "Of course. I'll give you my contact information. I mean, you can always contact Party Favors, but, ya know, a personal contact to give you the friends-and-cuties discount." There were all kinds of parties too. Small ones. Big ones. Ones that necessitated occupying certain solar systems for legal reasons -- but nothing untold! Zeltron didn't do anything dark, but some systems were a bit prudish. But that was why Cali had a ship so she could collect party goers from all over, have some fun, and get them home without incident.

"Hmm?"
Cali's head rocked to the side as Charles-Aiden start with a request for forgiveness. "Ooh, Aiden. Yeah, you look like an Aiden not a Charles." That made much more sense. And he continued with a brief explanation why the deception had been necessary, which was polite. "They are? Well that's no good." Her hair flopped in the opposite directly a second before she leaned in a little closer. Lowering her voice, Cali asked, "Do you have a glowstick?" Aiden probably wasn't aware, but the Zeltron always called lightsabers glowsticks. They were sticks, and they glowed. If you ever saw armies of Jedi and Sith clashing you'd totally mistake it for a rave. You know, if you blasted some loud music to drown out the sound of battle.

"'Cause I got some party favors too. So, do you know where they are or something? Did they come here?"

Aiden Porte Aiden Porte

"Ooh, Aiden. Yeah, you look like an Aiden not a Charles."
"Do you have a glowstick?"

Aiden was quite pleased she wasn't upset over the deception on his part. It was necessary for him to be like this for a time. At least until he could gauge whom he could trust and who he couldn't'. He leaned in a bit more as she did, wondering if she was going to provide some good hints and such. However the question that came forth, he couldn't help but laugh. Aiden cleared his throat as he laughed again, he hadn't heard that term before.

"Um, yes, I do have my glowstick." Aiden smiled as he opened one side of his jacket and the weapon was hanging within.

"'Cause I got some party favors too. So, do you know where they are or something? Did they come here?"

Aiden nodded quickly as he turned to where they were. He leaned back into to whisper. "Sitting up front, four chairs from the right side of the starting aisle. There is three of them, I did have a small tracking device I was going to place on them, get a lead back to their hideout here. What party favors are you carrying now?" The Padawan said with a smile as he was truly, very curious.

Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva

s5F70bs.png

Important information? Well, this Cali thought keeping a glowstick on the down low in a stakeout was important! Though nothing was more important than having fun, and Aiden seemed to like her question quite a bit. His Zeltron co-conspirator grinned. He even discretely showed it to her, which prompted Cali to lean a bit to the side to see it. That hadn't been necessary, but since he had, "Nice construction!" Most of them were all built the same from an engineering point of view, so aesthetics were the hallmark of most. Then again, "If you ever need a special focusing lens, I have two. Maybe I'll demonstrate the public market one later." If they confronted some pirated later might be sooner than they expected.

Speaking of whom, Aiden's attention went to the people of the hour and Cali listened attentively to his whispers. Front row. Four chairs from the right. Three. Who-where was locked in.

Then Aiden asked what party favors she carried, and then got another radiant smile. "Well, I got a blue glowstick," her right hand fell to what looked like a holstered blaster pistol, "a starburst, sparklers, oh! two blow-pops, and," Cali paused to pat herself down for a second before she produced a slender tube or stylus-like object, "a sonic screwdriver." The last item in the list buzzed and whirred as she turned it on and off a few times. "You'd be surprised how much of the galaxy opens up when you have a good screwdriver." The fact she'd used the colorful names for her creations instead of the functional names most others did hadn't even crossed her mind.

Aiden Porte Aiden Porte

"Nice construction!"

"Thank you." Aiden said with a big smile, she was one of the few that had complimented him on the construction of his lightsaber. It was just the beginning journey for him, yet he felt that he did a pretty good job with it. He was sure the time would come soon where he would be constructing an additional saber. The cavern's from Shiraya's Sanctuary were teeming with Crystals and the force activity was swathed in the lightside of the force.
"If you ever need a special focusing lens, I have two. Maybe I'll demonstrate the public market one later."
"That would be great, I am very interested in seeing it." Aiden spoke with a small confident smile as he looked from her, the race and back to his targets for a brief moment.

"You'd be surprised how much of the galaxy opens up when you have a good screwdriver."

She had an array of assets at her disposal. It was remarkable and impressive, while he knew his way around weapons and such, this was all something knew entirely. The Jedi felt he had a lot to learn from Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva

"You have no idea, you have to teach me some of the things you know. Granted after I deal with, these punks down there."

s5F70bs.png

Cali smiled. Aiden was pretty nice guy. Good attitude too. A Zeltron could tell.

"Me?" Her eyes widened as he suggested she teach him. "I mean, sure. I don't know how much I know is officially accepted by any gathering of Jedi, but I was taught by one once." Sat settled back in her seat and swayed side to side slightly. "Always meant to find him and return the saber he left behind. Long time's passed since then. Hope he was happy. Maybe built another saber." The pink one giggled. "Well, I imagine the best for 'em. After all, they had me to help them feel better before they left Zeltros." Those were some strange times leaving Jedi things to help the Master overcome whatever had driven them to their dark, emotional state.

"Say, those guys aren't associated with some kind of conspiracy are they?" Cali leaned forward as she peered down at the 'punks.' Then she turned to look back at Aiden. "I'm getting a vibe. You'd be surprised how good I am at finding trouble."

Aiden Porte Aiden Porte

"I mean, sure. I don't know how much I know is officially accepted by any gathering of Jedi, but I was taught by one once."

"Of course, why not you?" Aiden smiled and simply nodded his head. "My father always told me that a Jedi's learning never ended. You could learn much from anyone, no matter who it was."

She spoke of a Jedi who was with her on Zeltros. "See, it comes full circle. Even Jedi need help sometimes. I know I do right now." He winked at Cali, whom from his own understanding was someone he was glad to have met this day. Aiden was very open to meeting new people and developing new friendships.

It was amazing what could happen in a short amount of time. "Do you every think about trying to find him again?" Aiden inquired, his mind drifting off the mission for a few moments.

"Say, those guys aren't associated with some kind of conspiracy are they?"
"I'm getting a vibe. You'd be surprised how good I am at finding trouble."

"It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest." Aiden voiced as the trio looked to be getting up, leaving or maybe going to meet someone.

"You wanna join me?" Aiden said as he nodded his head in the direction they were moving. "Let's follow them, see what they are up too?"

Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva

s5F70bs.png

"He sounds pretty smart,"
Cali replied about Aiden's father. That sounded pretty reasonable, really. Always tons of things to learn. Even she learned new things about constructing mechanical creations; after all, they didn't have a voice when they were just components on a building tray. All up to her to build something and only then did it give feedback.

The smile brightened at Aiden pointing out similarities and the need for help. Certainly sounded fun.

Then she blinked and cocked her head a bit to the side. "Oh, I was trying to find him for the longest. That's why I'm out here. Otherwise I would totally have stayed on Zeltros unaware of all these cute machines in need of a friend, or that needed built. But, you know, it's been so long... I mean," the Pink One giggled, "I got trapped in an anomaly or two along the way."

She slowly rocked forward and backward. "You know much about Zeltrons, Aiden?" Maybe not. Some people got weird ideas about them exuding pheromones that would make you fall in love with them instantly. It wasn't instantly, technically wasn't love (maybe infatuation), and Cali knew how to control hers. Either way, weird ideas made people act weird around them off Zeltros. "We aren't big on the whole monogamy thing. I mean, some are, but it's not a cultural heritage like so many species out here. We value companionship and support and openness, we aren't really choosy about who. So, uh, you know," she stopped rocking and stared straight ahead, "it's kind of funny how I think about my Xobos still. I hope everything was alright for her in the end. Being trained by a Sith was so hard on her." Well, maybe Malvern wasn't a Sith-Sith, but his training regimen might as well have been True Sith Lord style.

"Oh, sure," Cali grinned, eyes squeezed shut for a second as she turned to face Aiden when he asked if she wanted to tag along. "Sounds fun!"

"He sounds pretty smart,"

"He is, he has his moments though. Don't let him fool you." Aiden chuckled as he looked from her to this targets.

"Oh, I was trying to find him for the longest. That's why I'm out here. Otherwise I would totally have stayed on Zeltros unaware of all these cute machines in need of a friend, or that needed built. But, you know, it's been so long... I mean,"
"I got trapped in an anomaly or two along the way."

"If you need help finding him, I've got a good team of individuals that would love to help, I would tag along for the ride as well. Just having a talk with you, you would be someone I would need at my side when there is trouble."

"You know much about Zeltrons, Aiden?"
"We aren't big on the whole monogamy thing. I mean, some are, but it's not a cultural heritage like so many species out here. We value companionship and support and openness, we aren't really choosy about who. So, uh, you know,"
"it's kind of funny how I think about my Xobos still. I hope everything was alright for her in the end. Being trained by a Sith was so hard on her."

"I honestly don't know too much, I recall something about pheromones' but I'm not sure if that was even a legit thing. Powerful stuff from what I hear." Aiden nodded and then she mentioned monogamy. "Oh, so you guys are like okay with....multiple lovers?" Aiden said slowly towards the end, as if he was trying to find the right thing to say. "Well that's interesting, I've only been in love once, and that was going great until, just a bunch of bad things happened. We would need a whole day and night with a lot of whiskey to talk about that." Aiden laughed, and while he didn't mean to, but it was long past. It wasn't to be disrespectful towards Esme, but he had indeed gotten past what had happened. It made him stronger in so many ways.

"There is someone I'm into now, who knows how that's going to go down." Aiden said as stood up and she said she would love to tag along. Perhaps after this was done they could have a nice long conversation without the mess of capturing some pirates trying to steal precious resources from good people.

"Come on, let's get these jerks!"

Cali Ziiva Cali Ziiva

s5F70bs.png

"Oh, it's totes legit," Cali said with a nod, "but people totes make a bigger deal out of it than they should. I think it got its reputation because people wanted an excuse for why they snuggled up with a cutie when they got 'caught' afterward. While my people may not be big on the whole single-partner thing," though some were, it wasn't as big of a cultural thing as others, "that doesn't mean it's okay for other people to break their social taboos, and then use us as the scapegoat." The Pink woman shook her head. "We're not Falleen. All we can do is help people relax." It might induce a very strong desire to feel comfortable and calm around Zeltrons, but it didn't actually 'control' people like some claimed. If they gave in to 'base' desires because they felt warm and fuzzy around a cutie how was that the cutie's fault?

As for the monogamy part, Cali's bright eyes and big smile didn't waver when Aiden inquired further on that. "Some of us. Most of us? I don't know if anyone's done like a survey or something. We're more about making sure we're all feeling good, ya know? Like, genuinely good, and not sad, mad, or alone. If that takes some physical companionship that's okay. Sometimes that's what they need." They were insanely social creatures.

Then Aiden started to bring up the one time he'd been in love before he thought otherwise. Cali stared at him for a bit and wondered if he really wanted to talk about it. Did he need to? Was it something that was locked away, but needed to be aired out? "Well, it took more than a day and night for that Jedi Master. So, you know, I'm there for ya, if you want to talk." She'd literally learned how to wield a lightsaber and several Force Abilities in the time it took that man to work out the issue of his depression.

"Ooh," she leaned in a bit with a renewed smile at mention of someone he was into. "That sounds nice. I hope that works out for you both!" She was known to be a flirt, so Cali would have to try and not let anything scandalous happen between them. And that did require a conscious note because as she'd just gotten done explaining making people happy was more of an instinctual thing Zeltrons simply did. It's why their world was known as one of -- perhaps The -- finest vacation spots in the galaxy.

"Yeah!" She jumped right out of her seat at Aiden's urging. Fortunately, her floating tray moved quickly aside to avoid any incidents.
