Caveat emptor
Right, so after a lot of work and thought and faction-wide consultations, I have conjured up a sub-faction that would resemble and intelligence network
Name: The Watchmen
Intent: Intelligence gathering network of Galactic Alliance
Membership Requirement: 18 and above, FU and NFU welcome, specialized skills required
Size: 10-15 members
Equipment: Scout ships, Specialized tech(TBA)
Codex Links:
Roster: Tionne Thanewulf
Signature Tag: Soon™
Description: The Watchmen are the eyes and the ears of the Galactic Alliance, consisting of FU and NFU alike. Members have special skills; from highly specialized Force powers to skills such as slicing, languages, logistics, surveillance and the like. The Watchmen are omnipresent, but they are not out in the open. Most GA members know that they exist, but to outsider they are but a mere rumor or a legend.
Watchmen who are NFUs make up what is colloquially known as The Grid. In essence, the grid is a wide social network spanning across the galaxy, where members of the Grid weave their own networks of acquaintances and contacts into the greater lattice. The Grid is used for total surveillance, espionage, but also diplomacy and trade. Information is exchanged over encrypted channels programmed by some of GA's finest slicers.
The Grid is protected by The Partisans, a network of computer specialists and hackers who are not directly affiliated with GA, but are sympathetic of their causes.
FUs of Watchmen are organized into a group called The Axis. They represent the backbone of the Grid, but they mostly remain in the dark. The reason? Their views of the Force are somewhat heterodox, often bordering with what is acceptible by Jedi as a whole. They are avid followers of the Unifying force, and students of Aperion. In essence, they do not believe Force has sides. This allows them to use a broader spectrum of Force powers, but at increased cost. While some members of the Axis have firm stance on the light side of the Force, the techniques they use often cause distrust in other Jedi. Hence, one does not become a member of the Axis, he/she recieves an invitation. Only [member="Coren Starchaser"] and NPCs above know all members of the Axis. Other PCs who are high-tiered masters and/or knights may know some members, but not all.
The Grid is lead by the Origin(NPC). The Origin is an ageless Celegian who floats in cyanogen gas. He assumes a male identity. The Origin is rumoured to be thousands of years old, as his jellyfish like DNA structure grants him a unnaturally long lifespan if his tissue does not sustain any physical damage. He never stays on one location for too long, moving from planet to planet, from spaceship to spaceship. The coordinates of his whereabouts are determined by a random number generator, so nobody is able to predict where he will be next. He is also rumoured to be Force sensitive, but this has not been confirmed. An urban legend says he recieves messages from the future, as he is always able to predict enemy moves with great accuracy. Origin rarely speaks to anyone in person, but rather sends messages. When he does choose to speak in person, it is to avoid a security breach.
The Grid and the Axis offer many carrier paths; NFU paths may include;
Finally, the Axis are not keen on lightsaber combat. Sure, they are trained to hold their own in battle, but are not master bladesmen by definition. Also, they tend to avoid conflict as often as possible, mostly not to blow their cover.
Discuss.
