The Wake of Finnegan

Tegaea Alcori

(Carrying over from the Marketplace thread.)

It was a couple of hours after the final communication. Tegaea Alcori entered her communications room with her wife and set the code for the mercenary named Finnegan’s holo-terminal.

When it finally connected, a blue-white image of a tall, very tough looking man appeared before them.
“Mr Finnegan? Tegaea Alcori, this is my wife Siobhan Kerrigan. Thank you for seeing us on such short notice.”

This one will not even attempt to try and figure out how this thread is placed timeline-wise. If it was set after the battle of Alderaan, had Siobhan recovered her memories or was she still semi-amnesiac? After all, the thread dealing with that is unfinished and it seems she might need brain surgery. Or perhaps it was set before.

In order to avoid a potential rift in the space-time continuum, or whichever term is appropriate, the time and tested power of handwavium shall resolve this temporal disturbance. So with that resolved, Siobhan entered the communications room along with Tegaea, standing next to her as the call connected and the mercenary who had contacted them earlier appeared on the screen.

Siobhan was still suspicious, though was keeping an open mind - and in any case Tegaea made the decisions. "It's nice to meet you, Mr Finnegan. We're interested in hearing your offer."

On Board Der Choppa

Finnegan had just finished cleaning out one of his KD-30 Dissuader slugthrowers, and had reassembled it. As he hung it in it's place on the rack within the armory, an alert sounded throughout his ship;

Attention: Incoming Holo-Connection. Attention: Incoming Holo-Conenection.

Making his way through the corridors of Der Choppa swiftly, he entered his quarters, and stepped on the Holo-pad. "Connect. Encryption protoc-ahl Finnegan 7-Alph-ah." Within moments, the images of two well-built, rather attractive ladies appeared before him.

“Mr Finnegan? Tegaea Alcori, this is my wife Siobhan Kerrigan. Thank you for seeing us on such short notice.”

"It's nice to meet you, Mr Finnegan. We're interested in hearing your offer."

Finnegan nodded, smiling broadly, taking the ever-present cigar from his mouth. He spoke with a very deep and very thick germanic accent that made some of his words seem a bit off, but he was perfectly understandable none-the-less.

"Ahh, Mizz Al-cori, Mizz Kerry-gan. It's my pleasure. I should be thanking you for dis oppertun-ah-tee." he said, followed by a puff of the cigar. "Da truth of da matta is dis, I have no loyalty to da A.S.A., and only took da retain-ah because of da high sum of credits offa'd. Firemane has much stock dat interests me, notably da Anti-Force Grenades. In my travels, I have run afoul of da Jedi and Sith more times than i would have liked. You can undahstand my dilemma, I trust?"

Tegaea was momentarily stunned by the overwhelming amount of i-dialect on display, or rather her writer was. Tegaea managed to make out the majority of the conversation, but still wished there was a subtitles option!
"We understand. We're not aligned to Jedi or Sith...especially not Sith. However, if you follow our code of ethics there's no reason for us not to offer you a job with us. If you take that up and sign the contract we'll give you a heavy discount on your supplies needed and give you a mission as a test. If that goes well we can offer you full employment with Firemane if you'd like."

This one notes that there actually is a planet of ultra-corporatist Space Germans in this Galaxy. Called Eisenwelt, which translates as Iron World. At least it was not Space Bavarians, for no one understood those!

Anyhow, Siobhan seemed to understand enough to follow. Of course, she was in a convenient position since Tegaea made the decisions! She just...looked pretty and blew stuff up. Well, perhaps it was a bit more than that, but in any case she listened and nodded after her wife had spoken.

"Sith aren't tolerated in our ranks or on Kaeshana. Our company's been contracted for plenty of fighting against them." Well, that and Siobhan was a bit of a homicidal zealot in this regard, but then Sith had done plenty of unpleasant stuff to the couple. When it came to the Jedi and the Republic Firemane's outlook was pure business. "But regardless, Firemane's always looking for talent and if you meet our standards we'd be willing to sign you up. Pay is good, so is the equipment we provide, in some cases it goes beyond what our storefront shows, and our employees certainly can't complain about lack of action."

The pale blue facsimile that was Finnegan chuckled a bit as it seemingly panned and zoomed in on his rather gruff facial features.

"I follow whatevah is paying, Mizz Al-cori. So long as you and your asso-see-ates pay and pay well, I do what is ahsked of me."

The face of Finnegan turned a bit, looking toward Siobhan. A hand materialized within the holo-stream, taking the larger stogie from his lips.

"You will nevah find a bettah soldiah than Frank Finn-ah-gin, Mizz Kerry-gan. I gah-run-tee it. Send me the contract for review at your earliest con-veen-e-ance."

“Excellent, Mr Finnegan. I will send the contract over for your perusal at once. If it is agreeable and signed, we invite you to come to Kaeshana to meet us and receive your equipment and first mission.”

She smiled and looked to Siobhan to see if she had anything else which had been missed. After that they’d send the contract through immediately

'Siobhan paused for a moment before speaking up. "Before we adjourn, some questions about your requirements and what you're bringing to the table. In the use of which weapons do you specialise in and which do you need? Beyond those you mentioned in your message to our 'net storefront. Firemane makes its own vessels, but what sort of ship do you have? Also, do you work in a team or solo? And do you have combat experience against force-users?"'

The pale blue visage of Finnegan flickered a moment, and the stogie came back into view as he stepped back into full view once more, waistline up.

"I spesh-ah-lize in all forms of weaponry, from smahll holdout blastahs to shouldah mounted rocket launch-ahs. If it can put ah hole in someone or something, I can use it and well. As far as my ship goes, I pilot a Ghtroc 720 Light Freighter. My mobile home ahway from home. Good ahrm-mah-mahnt, good speed."

Finnegan ashed his stogie, picking up a datapad and reading over it a moment before continuing.

"As for equipment, I see quite ah bit tha cahtches my eye. But for now, let us leave it at what equipment I've ree-questahd. Force Use-ahs are more and more a torublesome ahspect of my job. Neutralizing the ones ah need to helps immensely. If your stock goes past what you have up for public consumption, ah'm sure I will be working with you for a long, long time. As ah always say; follow tha credits." he added with a wink and a boisterous laugh.

"Excellent! A man after our own heart. The contract's on its way to you now. If it is agreeable, come to Kaeshana. I am sending the co-ordinates you need and a landing code for our outer defences. I will meet you on the orbital Skyport. If you have any questions before that time, please contact me."

With that she closed down the link.
"Well, that went much better than expected," she told Siobhan. "I'll meet him when he comes in if you'd like," she suggested.

(After Sio's post we can time skip a week forward with you approaching the Skyport.)

"You can. Make sure you're guarded though. Best to be certain, " Siobhan spoke. Trust was good, control was better! Even if Finnegan seemed an alright sort and had a Space German accent! What with Sith and their minions having a habit of infiltrating anything these days. Supposedly they had infiltrated every single planetary government...which meant about a million.

Not very logical in Siobhan's opinion, but then they were good at teleporting around.

Planet Kaeshana
Tirathana Skyport

Aboard 'Der Choppa' one week later...

Finnegan had been going over the contract provided to him by Tegaea for a couple of hours at this point within the mess hall area of ship. He was sipping from a rather large cup, a concoction of Corellian Whiskey and Stimcaf as he went over the contact one last time, a large stogie in the ashtray on the metal table billowing smoke.

*Alert! Approaching planet Kaeshana, E.T.A: 3 minutes.*

Finnegan nodded to himself lightly, signing the contract by way of thumbprint and sending it off within encrypted channels to Tegaea proper. Leaving the datapad on the table, he took the cigar, clenching it between his teeth as he lumbered his massive frame back into the pilot's seat within the cockpit.

*Alert! Planet Kaeshana within visual range; deactivating hyperdrive.*

Finnegan took the controls proper as the stars returned to their normal pin-points within the darkness of space, the Skyport getting larger within his viewports. Tapping the comm, he transmitted to the flight controller.

"Tir-ahth-ahna Skyport, Dis is Der Choppa, F. Finn-ah-gan; Cap-tahn. Trahns-mitting lah-nding code now."

An officious female voice came through in reply. “Your landing code is accepted, please proceed to Dock 3. An escort will meet you there.”

As the Firemane employees were being told to get to der choppa now! Tegaea was waiting in one of the luxury meeting rooms on the pinnacle of the Skyport. Behind her stood her Sergeant Freya Solveig, one of her key advisors and part time bodyguard.

When Mr Finnegan entered she rose to her feet and shook hands with the big man.
“Welcome to Kaeshana, Mr Finnegan. Lady Kerrigan sends her apologies, but she’s on a mission which came up very quickly. Pleased to meet you in person. This is Sergeant Solveig, she’ll be your contact in the organisation for most things. Can I get you a drink?”
