The Vanguard

Defenders of the Enclaves. Guardians of the Underground. Champions of the High Republic.

"The Vanguard is more than a military unit. They are the promise that the Jedi Order will never turn its gaze from the vulnerable. Where shadows grow, they bring the light. Where the Force is threatened, they are its shield." — Lorn Reingard Lorn Reingard

OVERVIEW

With the expansion of the Jedi Order across the Southern Systems and the decentralization of Jedi training through regional Enclaves, the Order recognized the growing need for rapid-response Jedi units capable of defending temple systems, escorting Force-sensitive individuals, and responding swiftly to crises throughout the Republic.

Thus, Shiraya’s Vanguard was restructured and reborn as The Vanguard, the Order’s elite force of rapid-deployment Jedi Knights and Masters stationed at each Enclave hub. No longer a military formation tied to Naboo, the Vanguard now serves as a galaxy-wide web of protectors, peacemakers, and tacticians.

PRIMARY MANDATES OF THE VANGUARD

Temple DefenseEach Enclave maintains a stationed Vanguard cell responsible for the physical and spiritual defense of the temple grounds, including repelling hostile incursions, counter-infiltration, and safeguarding relics, holocrons, and vulnerable younglings.

Rapid ResponseVanguard units are trained for swift deployment to nearby planetary systems experiencing unrest, disasters, or threats to peace. Whether intervening in conflicts, escorting diplomats, or aiding local law enforcement, they are the Jedi Order’s first boots on the ground.

The UndergroundVanguard agents are essential to helping maintain and defend the Order’s network of safehouses and covert sanctuaries that protect endangered Force-sensitives and other vulnerable beings.

Crisis MediationExperienced Vanguard Jedi serve as crisis mediators in volatile sectors, often acting in advance of political intervention. They are trained in psychological profiling, cultural diplomacy, and non-lethal containment techniques.

Battlefield Specialists While violence is never their first recourse, Vanguard units are capable of deploying in military scenarios, especially during evacuations, Sith-related conflicts, or to repel systemic threats that overwhelm local forces.

Inter-Enclave CoordinationVanguard operatives often serve as liaisons between neighboring Jedi Enclaves, especially in sparsely populated or at-risk regions. They help maintain continuity of doctrine and response protocols across the galaxy.

STRUCTURE AND CULTURE

Unit Composition
— Each Enclave’s Vanguard team consists of veteran Jedi Masters, Knights, and Padawans nearing Knighthood. Their diverse skill sets are chosen to reflect both combat readiness and community defense.

Leadership — Each cell is led by a Vanguard Commander, elected by their peers for their wisdom, field acumen, and moral clarity. While decentralized, all Commanders report to the High Vanguard Marshal, who coordinates with the High Jedi Council.

Training — Vanguard Initiates undergo enhanced training, including live-scenario simulations, rescue ops, advanced piloting, intelligence gathering, and Force-discipline studies across traditions. Their preparation includes both traditional Jedi philosophy and practical service engagement.

Philosophy — The Vanguard upholds a strict moral code emphasizing service over supremacy, protection over power, and action through wisdom. Their presence is a symbol not of dominance, but of stability and readiness.
