OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create a special implant for droids and cyborgs that allows them to resist the effects of Mechu-deru.
  • Image Source: The Satyrs' Reign
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: Mechu-deru
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Arrius Messala
  • Affiliation: Open-Market
  • Model: N/A
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Limited
  • Material: Durasteel, datachip components
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Allows droids and cyborgs to resist the Force power known as Mechu-deru
STRENGTHS
  • I Think Therefore I Am: The sole purpose of this implant is to increase the autonomy of droids and cyborgs by giving them the ability to resist the control exerted over them by Force Users employing Mechu-deru.
  • Universal Operating System: The chip is designed to be incorporated into any system, including more antiquated and obscure ones.
WEAKNESSES
  • Three Strikes You're Out: The implant is only good for up to three strikes of Mechu-deru (fewer if the attacks are sustained over a period of time) before it burns out and must be replaced.
  • Do Droids Dream of Electric Sheep?: This implant will not prevent FUs from affecting droids/cyborgs in other ways, such as telekinesis, Force lightning, or Hassat-durr. It does not nullify the Force itself. It can only protect against Mechu-deru specifically, and even then it has some limitations (see below).
  • Google Crayons: More simplistic machines with fewer parts may find that the implant doesn't work as well for them as in more complex software. Trying to put this in a moisture farming machine, for instance, may only briefly prolong its inevitable transformation into a technobeast monstrosity as the energy has nowhere to go. Thus, it is highly recommended that the implant only be used in sufficiently advanced droids and cybernetics.
  • Systems Failing, Master!: If the implant is damaged, destroyed, or overloaded, it will cease to function. This can occur due to repeated or sustained use over a short period of time. It is still recommended that droids and cyborgs seek to avoid any confrontations with a Mechu-deru practitioner.
DESCRIPTION

To all things there is a season - that is Arrius Messala's philosophy. The Sith Lord specializes in creating tech which is meant for extremely specific situations and unique beings. Here he set out to solve an issue which has plagued his conscience for some time: the inability of droids and cyborgs to resist the effects of Mechu-deru, a Dark Side Force power which allows the user to influence, alter, and take control of mechanical objects and beings by overwhelming their internal circuitry.

The invention went through numerous iterations and concepts - first it was a program, then a virus, then a device which would nullify the Force altogether. But these solutions were deemed unsuitable or too ambitious. Finally, it was decided that the best means was an implant which could be incorporated into any sufficiently advanced machinery, including cybernetics.

It works not by absorbing the energy generated by Mechu-deru, but by splitting it into parts and then diverting these to more benign systems or programming. This makes Mechu-deru more "manageable" so to speak, although its usage is limited to three attacks (potentially fewer if the attack is sustained). Because of this, the implant works best in complex droids which have more parts to divide the energy into, rather than simplistic machinery. In addition, the protection is not total - the droid may still be rendered temporarily immobile as the implant works to handle the energy, though this will not last more than a few seconds. Cyborgs need not worry; the implant is specially designed to never divert the energy into organic tissues.
