• Brief Overview: In 903 ABY, the Sith Covenant invaded the Tapani Sector, massacred the Noble Houses, and upended millennia of traditional rule. The massacre left millions dead, displaced, and terrorized under the Sith and their upstart noble puppets.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

After the fall of the Galactic Alliance after their heroic stand at Atrisia, the Tapani Sector was thrown into chaos. Without a galactic power to protect them, the sector was engulfed in a series of power struggles between the great Noble Houses. One brother was murdered by another, and the usurper - blinded by greed and ambitions of empire - sought to win decisively by hiring Sith marauders to be his private army.

But the Sith Covenant had other plans. Mercy Star-Arm saw the wealth of Tapani as the fuel her war host needed to challenge the Imperial Core. Rather than receive an ally in the Sith, the arrogant House Cadriaan was struck first in the opening move of an outright invasion. Their destruction sent shockwaves across the sector, but it was too little, too late to stop an enemy that by then had besieged multiple worlds.

On Life Day, 903, Sith forces launched a surprise attack on Calipsa - perhaps the most brutal moment of the Massacre. The entire family and everyone in attendance were slain indiscriminately during the celebration. No exceptions. In a single day, their capital was left in flames and countless dead in the streets.

The attacks threw the surviving houses into a panic. They poured their wealth onto mighty ships and fled for the Southern Systems, but rather they fled into the waiting jaws of Mercy’s fleet. The Siegemother picked the convoys apart and stripped them bare. Those who made it out alive only did so by intervention, when a relief force led by Aurelian Veruna ushered them to safety in the High Republic.

By the end of it, millions were left dead or displaced in Tapani. Those who remained were subjugated under Sith rule and the appointed upstart Houses who were chosen to replace the fallen powers. Most of the noble wealth was seized by the Sith Covenant and used to fuel their war machine in their eventual conquest of the greater Core Worlds.

Societal norms in the sector were completely upended. Minor families, low-class dissidents, and political outcasts were elevated to fill the power vacuum; many were quick to bend knee and pay tribute to those very Sith who propped them up, and the Freeworlds Territory - led by Fondor - was greatly empowered in exchange for their tribute of materiel and industry.

Of those nobles and refugees who escaped the destruction and seizure of their homes, some have pledged revenge for the atrocities committed. Others carry that suffering forward and simply seek to make a new life for themselves among freer stars. All remember.
