Private The Summit: War & Peace

Ran Serys had received a summons to go to a far off planet, help a pacifistic people avoid extinction, and avoid a war with another. They had asked for an ambassador, but they would receive a Jedi, and Jedi Master Ran Serys decided to make it two. She asked for a fellow Knight and they gave her a Padawan, the Jedi Padawan Congen Rintenne.

So from the Hangar of the Jedi Temple on Naboo, the Jedi pair departed in the Onyx Runner. The ship was Ran's longest traveling companion. While the cockpit was pristine, the rest of the ship was well worn, well loved, and well lived in. The modifications she'd made to the vessel made it something more akin to a home than a starship. While small, there was a living room, a kitchenette, two private bunks, and a lavatory. All rooms more comfortable than a Jedi Temple, at least from Ran's point of view. One would see them all on their way to the cockpit.

Ran kept conversation sparse while the pair launched and even sparser just before they hit hyperspace. Then they did and the autopilot engaged, that's when Ran turned to the young lady in the seat beside her own. "So, Congen, tell me about yourself." She requested as pleasantly and as matronly as she had ever been.

Congen unclasped her hands from her lap, her fingers still slightly red from where she had been picking at her knuckles. When the Council had assigned her to this mission, Congen assumed it was their way of keeping an eye on her or maybe just getting a grieving, struggling Padawan out of the halls of Theed for a while.

Master Ran Serys Ran Serys had asked for a full Knight and gotten her instead, leaving Congen feeling like a cheap substitute crammed into the co-pilot's seat. She stared out the viewport as the stars stretched into the bright, blue-white lines of hyperspace. The Onyx Runner was messier than the Temple, smelling faintly of hot engine oil and dried tea leaves, but the steady hum of the hyperdrive did nothing to calm her stomach.

When Ran spoke, Congen flinched, her shoulders tightening as she shifted in the worn leather chair. She looked over at the older Jedi and cleared her throat to keep her voice steady. "There's not much to tell, Master Serys," she said softly, resting her hands back on her knees.

"I was a Padawan in the New Jedi Order before the Temple on Theed took me in. I... watched my master...master fall to the Dark Side Elite on the steps of the Great Temple." The words came out surprisingly direct, far more straightforward than anything she'd managed with Master Elionwy. Maybe it was because the woman sitting next to her didn't scare her half to death.
