The Start of Something New

Everything had been going well.

The Corellian had been working, shipping items across the galaxy. He didn't know what items, he hadn't bothered to ask. He'd just told the client to load the crates into the cargo hold and leave. Kyle was clever enough to not question what he was shipping, instead he just did it and took the credits at the end. He'd learned early on that questioning normally lead to you being beaten and broken.

From that day he just didn't question what he was shipping.

This job offered good credits, that's why he had taken it. He had to support himself, feed himself and give himself a roof over his head. He'd take any job as long as it paid reasonably. He wouldn't admit it but he was pretty desperate. He was broke, that was the honest truth. He could afford a meal a day, sometimes if he was lucky he could get two. Never three, never enough money for three.

He was enroute to Osseriton. It was a planet he'd never heard of, a planet he'd never once had the privilage of visiting.

The planet came into sensor range. Kyle yanwed into a fist, shaking his head. He'd been flying for upwards of forty hours. He knew he needed sleep at some point soon, he just hoped that there was a hotel or something. He ran his hand through his hair, yawning again as he began to direct the freighter towards the planet surface, towards the space port.

And then he heard a shot.

It was a regular day it seemed. Jerrun had woken up as usual, and went to check on his 'father'. Despite having been around the man for several months now, Jerrun was still finding it hard to believe the man who was nearly his own age was actually his father. Despite all that though, it was turning out that the two had many things in common. The few times Toran was strong enough to leave the medical ward he had spent talking with Jerrun, sharing with him stories of his time, and what he had planned. Jerrun was worried at times he was still delirious from spending several centuries in cryostasis, but he was willing to give him the benefit of doubt.

He currently stood in the medical facility, watching as the dozens of medical droids worked to bring the small squad of stormtroopers back around. They had been suspended cryostasis as well, though they hadn't been sick when they went in, to serve as his fathers guards if the time came. Most of them were fine now, standing to one side of the room and working on donning their armor once more. Just as he was about to go speak with them, a small alarm began flaring in the medical room, the stormtroopers all snapping to attention as a small terminal began displaying information.

"Sire, sensors are detecting weapons fire in orbit over this facility. Several vessels are heading right towards us." The report shocked Jerrun into action more then anything. Osseriton was a withdrawn world. There weren't any cities or such things on the world, and it was largely uninhabited. It was the reason why it was chosen to hide his father here centuries ago. If someone had found them, then it wouldn't be long before others did as well.

Grabbing his blaster and holstering it at his side, Jerrun briefly waved for the stormtroopers to follow him, before setting out. They would have to deal with these threats, at any cost.

Smoke.

Something was burning. Someone on his ship. Kyle swore. He hated backworld planets, they were the perfect hiding holes for pirates. Or setups, that one was also possible. Kyle wouldn't have been surprised if the guy who hired him for this job was just there to set him up, he'd upset enough people in his life that had the means to set up such a plan that would end his his death. It would have surprised Kyle if there was anyone down there at all.

He fought with the controls, trying to regain any sort of altitude. He was falling from the sky like a rock, a dead bird. Gravity was stronger than whatever thrust he had left. The shooting had stopped though, which meant that whoever was trying to shoot him down had left, finally. That didn't mean that the damage caused by the pirates would be automatically fixed though, just because the pirates left, Kyle would still plummet.

He fought with the controls.

He was falling quickly, he couldn't pull the controls back quick enough. There was too much damage, too much thrust damage. He was going to crash and he could do nothing about it. He'd never felt quite so useless in his life. All he could do was try and throw himself at something that wasn't civiliased. He knew absolutely nothing about this planet, so it was a complete guess at what he would hit. He just hoped it wasn't a city.

Then everything went black.

The small party of stormtroopers and Jerrun emerged from the shadow of the mountain, though they had to dive to the side as a burning vessel flew past them, hitting the side of a mountain before ricocheting to hit the ground. The craft cut a deep gouge through the grassy fields surrounding the immense mountain range that the Imperials had come from, smoke soon rising up from the site. As Jerrun and the soldiers picked themselves up, they caught site of three craft streaking across the sky, heading towards the crash site. They began circling slowly as they began their descent, before finally touching down. Even from this distance, Jerrun could see dozens of figures emerging from within.

Turning to the stormtroopers, Jerrun gave brief orders, with the stormtroopers nodding wordlessly before they began dividing up, heading off in numerous directions. Finally, Jerrun and two troopers began making their way towards the crashed vessel, using what few rocks they could as cover.

Once they were close, Jerrun drew the pistol at his hip, peaking over the side of the rock formation, watching as the unknown figures began combing through the wreckage of the downed ship.
