The Sovereign Senate: Litigious To The Last

"Democracy is when the indignant, and not the men of property, are the rulers."
The Sovereign Senate, headed up by the Archon, is the legislative branch of the Sovereignty's government. It serves as the voice of the people, where representatives of various districts, planets and colonies are able to champion their people's needs, vote on important issues, and outwardly represent the Sovereignty to other governments and factions. Without the Sovereign Senate, the state would lack a solid and dependable diplomatic core.

Election to the Senate is only possible after extensive civil service on the part of a candidate. This can be carried out in the military, the Sovereign Guardians, or any other branches of government that quality. Once that is completed, they run for election against other qualified candidates and whoever is voted into office by their planet or district assumes the title of Senator. Term lengths vary but range from anywhere to 2 to 6 years. Generally, those who represent Eadu have terms of 4 years, and the variation is only found in planets controlled by the Sovereignty who handle their own elective process for Senators. All are required to have served civilly, however.

Once a term is concluded, a Senator is put up for re-election alongside other outside candidates who might desire their position. There is no hard limit to how many times a Senator can be re-elected; if they are popular enough, a Senator could serve 20+ years. Whilst, in theory, a Senator could keep getting elected throughout their entire lifetime, eventually & inevitably they are usually replaced by someone younger.
