  • Retains some of the knowledge and personality of previous owners.
  • The blade is sentient and contains the spirit of a long dead Sith.
  • The blade can communicate telepathically to its wielder or those in close proximity.
  • The blade can absorb some of the memories of those it slays and ‘tastes’ the blood of.
  • The blade can, over time, attempt to dominate its wielder subtly, using them for its ends.
Description:
The dramatically named ‘Souldrinker Blade’ is a rather special Sith Sword. In basic it is similar to other such weapons in that it has a palpable Dark Side aura surrounding it and is almost unbreakable barring the intervention of multiple powerful Light Side users or extreme conditions. It is also able to block blaster bolts and lightsabres as with others of its type. It is of slightly above average length for a sword, but is heavier than usual due to the alchemy. This means it is best wielded in two hands.

Importantly, although the weapon is almost unbreakable and unnaturally sharp, it lacks the sheer cutting power of a lightsabre. Thus, although the weapon is good in combat, it is entirely useless against heavy armour, bulkheads etc.

The blade has a rather unique ability in being able to absorb some of the essence of those it slays. Such absorption is limited to large surface memories the being had at the moment of death, and it does not trap the spirit permanently.

The blade has a will of its own, and whilst it will do as its wielder commands, it is not beholden to them. If the wielder angers it, or performs too many actions contrary to its interests then the blade will actively attempt to dominate the wielder and force them to obey, or call out to others nearby to take it. This treachery means the blade can never truly be trusted even by the most bloodthirsty of users. It goes without saying that it will not tolerate Light Side users at all, and will actively attempt to harm them.

The weapon’s origins are mysterious, mostly because of the blade’s own obfuscation, but also due to genuine forgetfulness. In broad strokes, the blade was forged in the ancient Sith Empire before even the time of Marka Ragnos. The original smith was an otherwise unremarkable Sith Lord named Varl Krauv who learned alchemy and became proficient in the craft. However, like so many Sith he feared death so strongly that he turned to measures to augment his life unnaturally. Though this was successful for a time it could not last forever. When he made this final blade for one of Marka Ragnos’ apprentices he put a bit of himself into the blade, literally. In effect he ended up transferring his essence into an otherwise inanimate object, something few Sith ever managed to do.

The new bearer took up the weapon, but something in the weapon’s creation forged a Force bond with each new wielder, allowing the blade to talk with its owner, to share secrets, but also to take something from them. Time passed and the weapon passed from hand to hand, and Krauv’s original spirit became diluted and a composite of those gone before until it forgot who it was, and instead became a new sentient entity trapped forever in the sword.

After many owners the blade passed to its penultimate owner; Darth Naukros. This Sith Lord lived in the time of the first Sith Emperor before it returned to assail the Republic. Naukros was a secretive and paranoid Sith who was known as the ‘Lord of Fear’ for his abilities with using the Dark Side. However, his plots against the Emperor led to his destruction and the blade was buried with him on Ziost.

Only now, with the rediscovery of the tomb by Sumiko and Darth Shadow, has the blade come to light once more. Eager to taste new blood in a new age, the blade has pledged to aid Sumiko…so long as her actions accord with those of the blade. Like so much with the Dark Side, the blade is treacherous though, and one can never be sure if it will turn against its wielder if it thinks there is a more capable potential owner close at hand….
