“Work? They don’t do anything on their own unless you play with them… or give them a little nudge,” Braze said, tone steady but not unkind. He held the object in the air between them as if it was the most natural thing in the galaxy. “You’re going to try to levitate them. But don’t think of it as lifting weights with your arms. That’ll only frustrate you. Different sizes carry different weight, yes....but weight is only a matter of how your mind frames the task.”

He crouched slightly so Leos could meet his pale eyes directly. “Start small. A pebble, a tool, something that doesn’t matter if you drop it. Feel it. Don’t grip it like you’re clenching a fist around it, let it rest in the current of the Force, like a leaf carried by the wind. Guide it, don’t drag it. The more you strain, the less it will move.”

Braze let the object of a small marble drift a few inches upward before letting it hover. “Once you can keep it steady, without shaking, without overthinking...then step up in size. A cup, a datapad, a crate. Each time, try and remember: it’s not the mass you’re moving, it’s your willingness to trust the current. The Force will carry it if you allow it to. Your job is only to open the way.”

He straightened, brushing dust from his glove. “So… start small, let the current take it, and work your way bigger. Don’t rush. The Force always meets you at the pace you can handle.”

Leos nodded and cleared his mind. He understood the basics from his father, but hadn't quite gotten the mechanics solidly down. These things seemed to strain his mind when he tried to exert his power in an overt way. Yet the way Braze described it, it sounded so... serene.

He did not think of it like lifting weights. He pictured himself in an ocean, calling out to the beads to lift up to the surface and join him.

Slowly, one by one, they did.

Leos's ears twitched when one of the marbles was disturbed. A little sweat formed on his brow as he felt the stimulation in his mind. It stayed levitating, but it wavered for a good moment. The Themian's eyes squinted closed a little tighter.

"Hey..." Leos muttered, trying his best to not get frustrated. "What was that for?"

"Not everything will be as simple as lifting something that isn't moving. Sometimes you'll have to shift an object already in motion, or one that's actively resisting you. But it looks to me like you're starting to get the hang of it. Very good. You're a fast learner."

He went to fetch some crates from his ship wheeling them over on a small repulsor lift dolly. He had them in varying sizes. He took down three of the smaller ones and set them out. " When you're ready try lifting these and then try balancing them one on top of the other...."

"Oh... I also have this for you. " He offered him a small decorative box. "This is for you. Do not break it... "

It was roughly the size of a bread loaf, and crafted with a distinct, meticulous beauty. Fine woodgrain swirled through the wood sides made from teak, cherry, walnut, and lighter inlays of ash and birch. The surfaces gleamed with a smooth polish, Intricate geometric patterns repeated across their faces, maze-like paths, latticework etchings, and subtly raised grooves that invited fingertips to explore.

It didn't appear to be a container at first glance. More like ornamental block... But if Leos tilted it slightly, there was a soft rattle within...

" It's handcrafted by Veridian artisans. It's part of the gift too. Well-made and meant to hold something worth keeping.... if you break the box you might break what's inside too. It isn't super sturdy so be careful."

Leos took the box into his hands with a frown, letting the marbles drift gently back to the ground. He ran his fingers over it, feeling a series of grooves and channels. Already it became clear that this was a test. Don't break the box, he said...

That just meant he had to open it.

"So... I have to open this?" he asked. "It's another test, right?"

It was the sort of thing he was expecting now that he had been thrown right into a series of trials. This was what he had to do to be a Jedi, it seemed.

One thing at a time. He'd figure it out.

"This isn't a test. It's a lesson. " Braze offered gently with a smile. " Take as long as you need or want to... It is my gift to you. There's a present inside of the box. But the box is also part of the present. If you break the bock you miss out on having the box. You must learn to open it on your own. "

"Oh... alright..."

How was he supposed to go about this? There were places where his fingers could slot in, but was that all there was? Just pressing those places in didn't seem to do anything. Was there something inside?

"Is... I should be able to feel things I can't see, right?" he asked, recalling the strange abilities of his father. "How... do I do that?"

"You mean using Force sight? That's a little more difficult to explain if you want to view it through an advanced lens. " Braze trailed... " It's like learning to see again... hard to explain in some manner...

It's like... seeing, but without sight. More like sensing through touch or... mental awareness?
I create images in my mind or my imagination, I guess you'd call it. Like how someone might visualize something they've seen before or picture something entirely new.

But for me, it's not quite that. Most of what I perceive is... dark, but with shapes outlined in light or color. The closer something is, the sharper and more distinct its edges become. But I don't experience it in two dimensions... it's more like three-dimensional, and then some. It's almost...
four-dimensional,
in a way. Like translucent layers of light and shadow, depth and movement.

He closed his eyes and sighed softly, "Things further away are fuzzier, less clear, but still there. It's like... there's... a feeling, like when someone stands close to you or hovers just behind you... you sense their presence, even without seeing or touching them. It's like that, but magnified, stretched across distances, and heightened by the Force....

I don't think words can really capture it. Trying to describe color to someone who's never seen it feels like a tall order... I would say it's deeply personal, almost intangible. For me, it's less about the images my mind conjures and more about the sensations, the awareness the Force grants me. I can't claim to 'see' everything, but if I focus, really listen to what the Force is saying, I can feel... almost anything....
I'm not sure if that makes any sense, but it's the best way I can explain it. My focus tends to center on the feeling... the knowing of where something is, where it's coming from, and how to intercept it. It's as if I have two spheres: one of influence, and one of perception."

Braze hesitated for a moment, his gaze thoughtful. "When I blindfold myself, I think my hearing plays a big role in how I navigate. It was... incredibly difficult to retrain my mind to being blind. I spent a significant amount of time shutting myself off from sight entirely, forcing myself to adapt. It helped, but I tried to handle layering that with cutting off sound as well. Combining the two was sort of overwhelming... I noticed my other senses like hearing, smell, touch, taste... became so much more vital to how I perceive the world. Relinquishing control, surrendering trust to something unseen... it's not easy.

For most, it's a luxury they can't afford. Even though the Force is my ally, there are those who use it as a tool of deception and manipulation, capable of fooling me. It's not a straightforward process, not as simple as it might sound.

But details can still slip through the cracks. It's like trying to paint a picture with half the palette missing... yet somehow, the Force fills in enough of the gaps to guide me. Or perhaps trying to tell a story with vague details or missing some context; or a puzzle of words that is nuanced and must be deciphered.

On the tightrope, I feel the weight of my body, the motion of balance, the blades, my targets... the creaking of movements lets me perceive a lot on the rope where I couldn't before. I imagine that would be difficult for someone not used to such things. I utilize wind manipulation as well, and that helps me... 'see' through the Force and 'feel' more information. I can gather information from what the air presses against.

Perhaps you might be interested in practicing a new method of sparring training with me that I've been developing?"
