"The Jedi Order is a spiritual knighthood, sworn to the service of Balance, guided by Compassion, and rooted in Discipline.

They are guardians of peace, not enforcers of law, but seekers of harmony between all living things. Through the Force, they listen to the currents of life and act with purpose, not passion.

Detached from personal desire, they walk the path of selflessness, not out of coldness, but for clarity.

A Jedi is a vessel through which the Force may act, and the Order, at its purest, is a sanctuary where wisdom is cultivated, humility is honored, and service is sacred."

Braze's expression darkened, the faintest crease of his brow showing as he turned from the saber hilt and let his gaze drift toward the ruined walls of the temple.

"The New Jedi Order fell because it mistook inaction for balance," he said, voice low and steady.

"They preached harmony, yet turned their eyes from the festering wound of the dark side. In their fear of repeating the wars of the past, they allowed shadows to gather unchecked, until they rose strong enough to swallow all the light they claimed to guard."

His hands folded behind his back, "The dark cannot be ignored. It cannot be walled off and left to rot in silence. To leave it alone is not compassion, it is negligence. And negligence is not balance."
He let that thought settle.

"A Jedi must face the darkness... not embrace it, not become it...but to confront it when it stirs. To deny that truth is to abandon the very duty we swore."

He took a small breath and paused looking down,

"The Jedi Code is a set of guidelines for Jedi Knights, emphasizing emotional control and understanding of the Force. The mantra is as follows:

'There is no emotion, there is peace.

There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.

There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.'

This mantra is not about suppressing emotions, but rather about understanding their transient nature and not letting them control one's actions.

'Emotion, yet peace.'
We all feel anger, fear, joy, and love, but we seek peace within those emotions, not the absence of them.

'Ignorance, yet knowledge.'
We all start with ignorance, but we pursue knowledge constantly.

'Passion, yet serenity.'
Passion gives us strength, but serenity allows us to channel it.

'Chaos, yet harmony.'
The galaxy is chaotic, but the Force weaves harmony within it.

'Death, yet the Force.'
Death is not the end. Through the Force, we continue."

"So... how does somebody... become these things, exactly?"

Leos frowned, remaining seated. It was starting to become slightly irritating now, but he hadn't been told he could stand yet. So he persisted, stubbornly so.

"Like... what if your emotions are justified?" he asked. "What if somebody else deserves your anger? What if they deserve the anger of millions of people? Like, y'know, one of those Sith maybe. How do you even handle somebody like that without being emotional in some way?"

Braze smiled at Leos with a faint, weak sort of smile, as if recalling when he too had wrestled with similar questions.

"That's the trick most masters want you to learn on your own... Where I'm from, a mother will warn you against doing something that will get you hurt. But a father...? A father will watch you make the mistake so you learn from the pain through your own experience. Most often, when wisdom and knowledge are shared by an older person, it's hard for the young to truly comprehend what the elder means. They overlook the wisdom at face value, thinking little of it.

In nature, few creatures live to become venerable. With age, almost everyone loses their physical prowess. Those that survive longer have learned important useful things, endured more, and know better how to handle what comes.

So, if I tell you now... will my words come from a place of an overprotective mother, stunting your personal growth? Or will I seem more like the father you resent for letting you experience life on your own?"

He paused as he came forward, lowering himself into a squatted position in front of Leos until he was eye level with the young man. He met hsi gaze with full unabashed direct eye contact, holding it.

"The truth of the matter is this: you can't stop yourself from having emotions. Emotions are natural. To ignore them or suppress them will only lead to your downfall. You can't control how you feel; no one can. They just happen. What you can control, however, is how you act."
Braze explained simply.

"The storm will always come. This is true. But the tree that bends does not break. " He reache dout and with his fore and middle finger presented like a pointed blaster pressed it in to Leo's shoulder. " You decide whether to bend like the reeds, or break like the stone."

But a father...? A father will watch you make the mistake so you learn from the pain through your own experience.

Leos grimaced at the mention of a father. Watching someone make mistakes was one thing. It didn't exactly help if you didn't even stick around to watch. His father was surely too busy lording over his criminal domain. The thought alone angered and disgusted him, but he kept it under wraps.

"That... sounds difficult," Leos admitted. "I feel like it would be... hard to deny that feeling. I mean, like acknowledging them sure... but how do you keep yourself from acting on that sort of thing? Surely there are things you want to do that you keep yourself from... right?"

A sigh escaped his chest.

"How do you choose to be a branch?"

"Well, it's difficult… that's why you practice," Braze offered gently. "You learn ways of dealing with it. For me, meditation is a big part of that. I imagine setting my emotions aside, placing them in a small basket to sort through later."

He paused, considering his words.
"It can be hard to recognize when anger or pride are clouding your judgment in the moment...because emotions are felt so strongly. Sometimes it's better to be the stone... you need to learn to read situations before they happen in truth... you only get that from experience."

"I... guess that makes sense..."

If only a little. It was still cryptic in it's own way. Then again, it was probably accurate to say that most people just had to figure out what they were doing on their own. That's what it sounded like, anyways.

"But... here has to be ways that... 'passions,' I guess, are used for good, right?" Leos asked. "It's not like every emotion is just, y'know, anger. Would those also cloud your judgement?"

"Yes… passion can be good," he admitted, voice calm but reflective. "You can be passionate about wanting to make a change, or about pursuing some great goal. My pursuit, right now, is knowledge."

He gestured toward the scattering of lightsaber parts at his feet as he rose to stand, dusting his hands. His gaze shifted back, steady and curious.

"But you," he continued, stepping closer and extending a hand seemingly to help Leos up, eyes turning briefly to the small wound, "what is it you're so passionate about, I wonder? What drove you all this way?"

"what is it you're so passionate about, I wonder? What drove you all this way?"

"There's... someone I know who has hurt a lot of people," Leos muttered, lowering his gaze. "And he is still hurting a lot of people... and he will continue to do so. He's... strong. I would never be able to do anything about it."

A soft exhale escaped his chest as he sat himself up straighter. There was a clear air of responsibility about him.

"That's all I can say for now."

Braze understood the sentiment all too well...and worse, he knew what it was to be powerless. To watch suffering unfold right before his eyes, unable to stop it. Aliris Tremiru Aliris Tremiru had suffered. Tesa had suffered. So many others had, too. Each name weighed on him, familiar sentiments of grief welling up until the faint smile faded from his lips.

He drew a slow breath.

"Alright. I will train you. But understand this... if you work with me, you follow the rules."
