The Secession of Alderaan

Well, this post surprised me a bit: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/80926-invasion-of-alderaan-ooc-mandos-vs-gr/#entry1191086

So what's our stance on Alderaan? I'd like to have them rejoin the Republic, but if they want to to go, then we really can't do anything about it as per the cease-fire agreement with the Mandalorians. However, the Alderaanians are going to need to set up some kind of security and economic arrangement with us to allow their ships (and likely future Mandalorian vessels) to pass through Republic space, unless they plan to go through One Sith territory.

Personally, I say we let the thread play itself organically. If we can't get the right of domain, then we will talk about a peaceful situation of passage. We should also be willing to bring up the issues of aid and mutual defense. Bringing the Mandalorians back to our side, opposed against the greater threats of the galaxy, is a considerable win we can pull out of this.

You don't get to make that kind of decision. If you could, then individual planets would've been able to change hands between factions without there being invasions before this.

I was told multiple times that planets can go on their own. It's dumb to have an invasion for this, but we're not allowed to say no, which leaves it ripe for abuse.

So myself and the other OOC faction staff have been talking about this and the consensus we've reached is that the Alderaanian writers should be free to secede if they desire to.

If they want to be independent, that's fine, and can be played out through regular RP, though for IC continuity and logic we'd want some GR characters involved.
After that, arrangements would need to be made like you said, Suravi, for trade and security, etc. We'll want to be as helpful as possible IC and OOC, mainly because Alderaan would be in a somewhat dangerous position so close to OS territory. We'd likely want to do something along the lines of leave a standing fleet in a nearby system to respond quickly if Alderaan were to be attacked, and to protect supply lines entering and exiting the system.

If Alderaan wants to remain part of the Republic, then greater OOC measures would be taken to include their writers in RP and make them feel more welcome and better treated than the last faction staff seemed to do.

If Alderaan wants to secede and join the Mandalorians, an invasion would be required. The invasion that's in the works doesn't make much sense to me and I think we need to go back to the drawing board and include the Alderaan writers in the process, but I do like the idea of a non-combat invasion.
Unfortunately the current invasion terms outline a combat invasion only, which was not part of the agreement, as the Republic is avoiding hostile action against Alderaanians. The OOC for that can be found here: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/80926-invasion-of-alderaan-ooc-mandos-vs-gr/page-1#entry1191086

[member="Nick Sept"] - I understand, but I feel like the GR side should go into negotiations with at least some kind of consensus.

[member="Vitor Imperieuse"] - In our cease-fire agreement with the Mandalorians, we agreed to allow planets to secede if they desire. I'm not crazy about that bit either for the reason you just mentioned, but we have to honor that agreement.

[member="Lady Kay"] - It doesn't make sense to me. I know at least you, Jack, and myself were trying to talk to the Organas. Seems like this would have been more appropriate to be handled as a regular thread to hash things out, and then proceed on with the invasion if it was decided to keep Alderaan within the GR by force. I see some were saying that they were afraid someone would just show up with a fleet, but that's a flimsy reason at best. The solution would be to have a private thread with people you know wouldn't do something so silly, not an invasion thread.

[member="Geral Varta"] - I'm of the same mind. Just let Alderaan loose if it doesn't want to be part of the GR.

Was this an IC or OOC agreement? If the former, then that doesn't apply to the map. If the latter, then the negotiators need to get fired for allowing the Mandos to pretty much bend us whatever which way they want.

Unfortunately we aren't allowed to say no to an invasion, as I had said, even when it makes no sense. Which is why we pressed for it to be non-combat.
