GENERAL INFO

Media Name: The Rupture: Our Hellscape Heartbeat

Format: Holobook

Distribution: Planetary

Length: Long

Description:
  • The Rupture is the cold planet of Skism's defining feature. Spanning roughly a half of the planet's circumference, it is the S'kiss people's Hell and their Heartbeat. A sprawling gash across the surface that reaches all the way down to the upper mantle, it has remained one of the hermit civilisation's hottest (literally) topics for aeons. Hellscape Heartbeat is an in-depth scientific and historical analysis that serves to dissect and explain every detail of the Rupture, from its net energy output to the very reason it's there.

SOCIAL INFO

Author: Collective effort from the Pre-Emergence S'kiss scientific community

Publisher: Pre-Emergence S'kiss state

Reception:

"Comparing Dark Formation Theory to Vaas' ancient Four Star label should tell any reader the historical analysis was far from un-biased. Besides its rejection of DFT disguised in complexity, Hellscape Heartbeat is, undeniably, a historical icon of the S'kiss scientific community."

"The result of a great effort from great minds, Hellscape Heartbeat achieves a golden balance between readability and esoteric exclusivity. It is both a supreme book and groundbreaking study into a dark and, honestly, quite scary pride of this species."

Award-winning and indefinitely praised. Although faced criticism from certain scholarly and religious groups for its scrutiny of its alleged Dark Side origins.

FORMAT INFO

Post-Emergence, Hell and Heartbeat was re-released with an introduction from Orex Mauda

"...Hellscape Heartbeat is an exceptional product of Skism's unrivalled scientific community. Worthy of its awards and continued persistence through time, this detailed analysis of the geographical feature that satisfies our energy needs and begs our curiosity has, without fault, accomplished its task..."

He then goes on to, quite controversially, confirm the Rupture's hotly-debated origins.

"...as a scholar and learned user of the Dark Side, coupled with the acquisition of certain related artifacts and my own experience spent in the region, I can quite confidently confirm Dark Formation Theory..."

CONTENT INFO

The Rupture: Hellscape Heartbeat provides a detailed historical and scientific analysis. The opening couple hundred or so pages discusses its history, referencing geological analyses and dissecting several of the strongest theories of the time regarding its origins. More controversially, it draws upon other historical texts and force-related experimentation in the area in an attempt to present an un-biased recounting of the most ancient and debated origin theory. It then goes on, to varying levels of esotericism and complexity, to analyse the Rupture scientifically. Hundreds of pages dedicated to its dimensions, possible un-seen formations, energy statistics, climate effects, ecological effects, local ecology, a multitude of experiments into different sciences in the area, the list goes on.

----------
An excerpt from the chapter that addressed the more ancient and controversial formation theory:
----------

"However, all previously presented formation theories simply pale in comparison to perhaps the most hotly debated topic in science since the discovery of Vaas. Fortunately, Skism's defining feature was lucky to avoid a name dedicated to a grossly incorrect theory. Dark Formation Theory is the culmination of ancient claims, similar experiments rebooted into the modern age and hundreds of years worth of genuinely perplexing features that have yet to be answered definitively.

Darth Nihilus was a Dark Lord of the Sith from roughly 3960 - 3951BBY. Commonly referred to as the Scourge of the Outer Rim, he was a heavy practitioner of the Dark Side of the Force, with many making such claims that he could 'Consume Life. Even Worlds'. These claims come from the archives of the Jedi and correlate with an ability known to the two groups (Jedi, Sith) but one that is rarely, if at all practiced. Its scarce presence in either religion makes verifying such claims incredibly difficult, making it easier to assume that these claims are the result of psychological contortions or baseless exaggerations. However, the conflict that ensued between himself and the Jedi, one as well documented as any, saw action across several worlds in the Outer Rim. One such world was Katarr. According to information sourced from the Jedi Archives, Katarr was the site of a catastrophe resulting in the death of an entire Jedi enclave, along with all life on the planet. The Jedi archives places responsibility on Darth Nihilus, claiming it to be one of several demonstrations of his power in this aspect of the Force. The complete and seemingly simultaneous loss of life on Katarr is indeed strong evidence to support the aforementioned claims. However, in the context of Dark Formation Theory, the two alleged histories do not seem to work together.

DFT theorises that Darth Nihilus visited Skism some time between 3954 and 3952BBY, the latter being thus far the most verifiable date for the Katarr catastrophe. The Sith Lord, with his budding Force powers, attempted to do to Skism what he supposedly did to Katarr. To devour all life in one fell swoop. Where DTF fails to correlate with Sith and Jedi history is where it justifies the persistence of life. It states that the Dark Lord may have been too early in his abilities to successfully devour the world. Instead, his immense, yet rusty power was enough to generate a tangible presence of the Dark Side of the Force on the surface of Skism. This raw and possibly even physical coalescence would have the disruptive power to tear open a gash in the world so deep and massive that it can be seen from Vaas, provided a mediocre telescope. This explanation does not hold up to more verifiable events, such as Katarr, who's surface was left unscathed, albeit devoid of any life. But there is evidence much closer to home. The terrors that roam the region, the Hryll genus, is an evolutionary oddity that may provide some support to DTF. As we know, evolution takes place over many, many years. Species can take a billion years to evolve, while some organs can, on an evolutionary timescale, appear in the blink of an eye over only tens of millions of years. And yet, in the depths of the Rupture and surrounding areas, we see very clear fossil evidence of drastic evolutionary changes over a period of only 4000 years. Which matches the given date of Nihilus' visit. The Hryll genus was without question, a very different (maybe friendlier) organism compared to the beautiful, awe-inspiring nightmares we see today. Whether this rapid evolution was influenced by the Dark Side is also intensely debated, with proponents citing the creation of entirely new beings bred from Sith Alchemy. Not only that, but the religiously coveted Kyber Crystal deposits found in the Rupture display unique draining properties not found in other deposits (And according to the Avilok, produce blades of pure Black, also unique). And so while there is evidence to support it, like any scientific claim, it must stand the test of scrutiny of a community, which, thus far, it has not."

HISTORICAL INFO

The Rapture is, as the excerpt states, a controversial and heavily debated topic within the S'kiss scientific community. It has always been steeped in awe and mystery. It provides Skism with almost all of its energy in the form of geothermal output while almost always being likened to Skism's local Hell, with lava fields, a vast network of dangerous caves and volcanoes of varying size and ferocity. Hellscape Heartbeat was a project undertaken with a desire to explain this inferno mystery and dissect a landmark of great scientific interest.
