The Root of the Problem

Kay-Larr

Sphaera Tea Company Owner
Kay stood outside of her tea shoppe (in sig), tea cup in hand. She wasn't in the doorway. Instead she was off to the side. A soft breeze blew by, gently moving the branches and leaves of the trees. It was a picture perfect day. So far, at least. The start of the day was never a harbinger for the rest of it, however. So she could hardly judge how it was going to go.

A week ago she put in a call for people to run a difficult errand for her. That errand was to go to Iego and pick up some reeksa root. Normally Kay would have gone herself, but it was right next to the Sith Empire and after what happened to Mandalore, there was no way that she was going to get herself that close to death. She had escaped it's grip too much already. One of these days she'll fail. But for the moment she wanted to delay it.

Two people had answered her inquiry. One by the name of [member="Gray Venasir"] , and the other by the name of [member="Nej Tane"] . Whether they would be able to find their way to her shoppe on Altiria was anyone's guess. It was a big galaxy. Other offers could have been made to them, ones that were either closer or offered more pay.

But she could hope.

"You're probably wasting your time, Kay-Kay."

She shrugged her shoulders as Lord Mayhem sat himself cross-legged on a big rock. "Maybe. But it won't change my mind for getting some fresh air."

"When no one shows you can always hit the underground or the black market."

"Perhaps. But I figured this might be cheaper."

The Arkanian scientist laughed. "You think funding an expedition is cheaper? I think you've gone a bit crazy there, Kay-Kay. What do you need the root for anyways?"

"You know what it was used for in the past, Mayhem. I just want to be prepared."

There was a twinkle in his eyes as he grinned. "We're not creating a plague, now are we?"

Kay looked to him then, sipping her tea before giving another shrug of her shoulders. That in itself caused Mayhem to give a hearty, long bout of laughter while she just kept a vigil, waiting for people to arrive.

That is if they were going to arrive at all.

Tykar was worried. After escaping Zakuul he had spent most of his time searching for [member="Kay Arenais"]. When he found her he had noticed that she was suffering with PTSD. He was a very caring Sith, at the most. He had decided to come by the Tea Shoppe in the Ephiphany as to see what his former boss was up to. She was making an honest living. He should try that but no...he had too much work to be done. Too much time had to be spent planning his counterattack on the Eternal Empire of Nelevan. No. "Lady Kay?" He said as he walked into the room. She looked so different since Zakuul. He noticed who her force signature was weaker than what it was when she Empress. Nonetheless it was good to see her...alive.

Evangeline had spent most of the past couple hours getting the dishes caught up. She took a breath as she stared at the many, many tea cups that were drying as she wiped her hands on the apron that rested over the humanoid part of her body. [member="Kay Arenais"] had mentioned there could be guests arriving.

Not the usual sort of guests, either. The more business oriented guests. And so, she had made sure she dress herself in a grey coat and a loose light purple shirt, latched together by a darker purple satchel. It wasn't her most formal attire but it would do the job for today.

Taking the apron off, she gently placed it on the hook as her hooves tapped along the stone flooring as she made her way through the tea shop and towards the entrance/exit. A flick of her wrist to check the time.

A brief stop at the counter to ensure some guests were content before she resumed her walk towards the exit. Perhaps Kay was outside waiting for her guests to arrive. Indeed, the light that shined in seemed to indicate it was a beautiful day. She couldn't be locked up in here all day, could she?

Kay was still outside as [member="Tykar Valkroin"] approached. She watched him get closer and then looked to Lord Mayhem. No one else would be able to see him or hear him as the Arkanian was a figment of her imagination. Although she wasn't aware of that little fact at all.

Mayhem seemed interested in Tykar as well. Though he appeared more amused than anything else. That was just the way that he was.

Kay half expected some kind of comment from him. Yet when there wasn't she once again looked to Tykar as he addressed her. "I'm not Lady Kay anymore. I don't carry any titles or any standing of merit. Is there something that I can help you with?"

The sound of hooves on stone was heard. [member="Evangeline Delias"] was on her way. It was sort of nice to have the advanced earning, but sometimes she wondered if she should invest in some soft felt or rubber to lighten the sound. Surely there'd be times when Eva wouldn't want to be heard.

But as always Kay was easy to approach for whatever was needed. At least when it involved the shoppe or tea company. Everything else she did her best to hide away from.

Renn would be watching the spectacle from on a speeder, he thought that they looked like they were going somewhere. After his last job which ended months ago, work has been bad, jobs seem to be harder to find. In his mind he thought maybe he could follow them, and make some money. So, he decided to watch and listen, while he was just another face in the crowd, he would look suspicious watching them. He was ready for this, he doesn't care about the danger, all that he wants is to be in an adventure. A well-paying one anyway.

[member="Kay Arenais"] [member="Evangeline Delias"] [member="Tykar Valkroin"]

Jobs had been few for a while now for Gray. Not that it mattered. One of his last ones had earned him a great deal of credits, so he had been living the good life for a few weeks. Drinking, gambling, trying to live with no regrets. Most of this, he did to ease his mind, try to keep it too busy to focus, to think. But also to have fun. The credits he had was well earned... they were earned. Truth be told, the job he got it all from had been too easy, and only worth a third of what he recieved. But who was he to argue with the employer.

The plan wasn't originally to get back to working again this soon. But one thing about this job had made him accept it. The name Arenais. It was a well known name throughout the galaxy, and the members of it's family had been included in a lot of the recent events that had happened. But that was not how Gray knew the name, nor why he accepted the job. The daughter of his would-be employer, Loreena Arenais, was a good friend of him. Though she was many years younger than him, she had been his captain on the Jaster's Sparrow many times. She had taken him aboard the crew when he was fleeing from sith. She was one of very few people, and probably the only one with jedi training, that Gray fully trusted.

He knew [member="Kay Arenais"] was Lori's mother, so when he heard that she was looking for people for a job, he accepted. Things had been hard for her for a long time now, and she was now far away from the galactic politics and the war. A life Gray respected.

It had been a long Journey to where Kay was keeping residence now. Altiria wouldn't be Gray's first pick, if he had to decide. But it was Remote enough to keep away from People that could want to hurt you. When he arrived, he landed his ship as Close to her Tea Shoppe as he thought was possible. But he still had to walk some distance to get there. When he arrived through the forest, he saw a woman, which was most likely Kay, and a man in some sort of uniform. Gray had never seen Kay before, nor any Pictures of her. But he knew her daughter, and could see the similarities. He approached the two. "Greetings, lady Arenais," he said when he was Close enough. "I'm not sure if Lori's ever mentioned me? I'm Gray... Venasir." He was unsure how smart it would be to say his surname when the uniformed man was present, but he wasn't sure that if Kay would be satisfied With his shortened name.

Renn would curse at himself and then walked over to [member="Kay Arenais"]. He realized the longer he waited the less chance of getting a job he would have. When he was by them, he would wave and say. “Greeting Kay Arenais, I heard that there was a job that you needed for it. Currently times for me are tough so I’ll work cheap, but just this once.

He would immediately mentally scold himself for he had heard she went by Lady. “I am sorry I have forgot to introduce myself, I am Renn Garrick, a bounty hunter. I heard you were called lady, if you’d like me to call you that I can. I specialize in melee combat, and with blasters. I can pilot and I am good at infiltration and stealth.

After that he would quietly wait, his services would be valuable at the price he was willing to take.

[member="Gray Venasir"] [member="Evangeline Delias"] [member="Kay Arenais"] [member="Tykar Valkroin"]

Indeed, her hooves made it hard, especially on the stone flooring of the tea shoppe and her exterior. Click, clop. Yeah, she was going to have to do something about that... But in the meantime, she was clearly heard as she walked towards the exit of the shoppe. Gentle hands opened the door as she peered through, catching sight of [member="Tykar Valkroin"], [member="Kay Arenais"], [member="Renn Garrick"], and [member="Gray Venasir"].

Eva frowned - a little worried. They didn't seem like ordinary guests or business people that usually came through. Of course, maybe Eva just didn't see these type of guests. She was fairly new here, after all. But still, it made her worry for her employer. She exited the doorway to ensure no customers would have any issues getting in or out. She wasn't a tiny creature, after all.

Her hooves pressing into actual dirt at least made her approach quiet, although she was sure she was already seen. "Kay?" She asked concerned, mostly to just make sure these were the guests she expected. "Shall I bring some tea for our guests?" Her sky blue eyes darted between the 3 newcomers, trying to gauge them. They were likely here to take on some type of job that Kay had posted. Really, she kicked herself mentally for not paying more attention to those requests that went out.

Still, the trio was intimidating to Eva. But perhaps it was the normal for Kay. Either way, she awaited her employer's instructions.

Kay turned her attention to [member="Gray Venasir"] as he approached. Her expression softened as he mentioned her daughter Lori. It had been many months since she had seen her last. Much had changed since then. "Ahhh, so you're Gray. Pleased to meet you. She said that you were a good man and were there to watch out for her many times. Thank you for that."

[member="Renn Garrick"] was the next to approach. Kay bowed her head to him, her body stiffing slightly as he mentioned that he was a bounty hunter. However it seemed as though he had no quarry here. She held up a hand as he seemed to apologize for not addressing her correctly. "I don't carry a title anymore. Just calling me Kay is fine. It's good to meet you too Renn. And yes, I have some work for you."

Laughter that only Kay could hear distracted her then. It came from Lord Mayhem as he got up from the rock and moved to stand beside her. She watched him, a figment of her imagination that she was unaware that others couldn't see or hear. "LADY Arenais. You're not so high and mighty, are you? Unless...oh no, you wouldn't be doing that.."

"Doing what, Mayhem? Can't you see that I'm in the middle of something?"

"You're planning on creating a plague to become famous with the cure! Oh you deviant! I didn't know you had it in you!"

"That's not what I'm planning. Now hush!"

Kay shook her head a little and then looked to [member="Evangeline Delias"] as she approached and inquired about tea. "Yes, please. Some stim tea would do well." She looked to Renn, Gray "Shall we go inside? I can explain the task at hand over tea. It won't be an easy one, mind you."

[member="Tykar Valkroin"]

Seeing [member="Evangeline Delias"] he would become curious. This species to him was unknown, while he would like to know more, dissecting her wouldn't be the smartest idea. [member="Kay Arenais"] seemed to be friends with her, so he tossed his idea away.

"I will hold on the stim tea, I have my own drink." Reaching into his bag he would pull out a flask. "And don't worry about the difficulty of the job, I will do it."

He felt he sounded cocky, and didn't want to seem immediately arrogant, but left what he said alone. Following Kay inside he would look around the place and would have a strange feeling. Amusement? No, he felt there was a lack of noise. Pondering this for a moment he decided it must've been the Sapier Tea, he would sit at the table when they got to it and listened.

[member="Gray Venasir"] [member="Tykar Valkroin"]

Gray was glad that Lori had told her mother about him. It made the whole introduction easier. "The pleasure is mine," he replied. "Lori has watched out for me too. We're a good team. And it would only be right that I watch out for her, since she was the one to help me first when I was on Commenor." This Meeting reminded Gray of the first time he had heard about Lori's mother. She had been rumored to be dead. Thank the stars that didn't turn out true.

Right after, a armored man that looked like a Bounty hunter arrived. He was quick to say why he was there, and offer his services cheap. But he was also quick to state his name. "Greetings, mister Garrick, I'm Gray. It seems we might be working together very soon." Bounty Hunters, which Gray assumed was what this man was, wasn't his preffered work partners. But they were better than a lot of other People.

When the horse-lady came out, Gray stared in some kind of confusion at her. This was a completly New species to him, and he had seen most of them on his travels. This creature was beautiful, in it's own way. Gray's staring at her made him ignore Kay's short one-way conversation With herself, or someone named Mayhem. Though he did hear the name 'Mayhem', and that there was something Kay was not planning. But the rest was ignored.

His staring was ended when the horse-lady spoke, With Kay speaking right after. "I do believe you know more about tea than I, so I'll take what you recommend, miss...?" , he replied to the horse-lady. Most of the time, Gray drank some for of ale or beer, not something as sophisticated as tea. He simply didn't have the time, and it was easier to just og to a bar.

Gray followed Kay inside. This must certainly have been a change for her, given her earlier status as Queen on Commenor. But it Was a Nice Place. "Easy? Why, the job wouldn't be fun if it was easy. Haven't Lori told about all the Things we've done?"

[member="Renn Garrick"] | [member="Kay Arenais"] | [member="Evangeline Delias"] | [member="Tykar Valkroin"]

Evangline had caught the tail end of the conversation, it seemed. The couple of potential bounty hunters? Mercenaries? She wasn't quite sure what to refer to them as. [member="Kay Arenais"] seemed calm and content, although did she catch her mentioning something about Mayhem again?

Either way, she gave a little nod as [member="Renn Garrick"] gave her a look of intrigue while [member="Gray Venasir"] seemed to be unable to speak as he stared at the Chiron for a moment. Eva was used to such stares from humans and other two legged sentients. Her species weren't a common one in the galactic field, and in some ways she actually enjoyed the extra attention it brought. Some thought her a beauty, others not so much.

She gave a nod to Renn and Kay, before deciding to answer Gray's question. "Stim tea is a lovely tea," she replied with a charming but small smile. With that out of the way, Eva turned herself around and re-entered the tea shoppe to get two cups of stim tea crafted for the guests. "I'm Eva, if you need anything else while at the shoppe, please let me know," she would comment towards the guests - but mostly to the one who was actually going to take a cup of the tea, Gray.

It was assumed that if Kay needed anything, she would do it anyways.

Evangeline would arrive (with her hooves naturally giving her approach away) at the table with the guests and Kay. Gently placing the cup of tea in front of Gray, she would give another smile. "Enjoy." Her eyes glanced to Kay to give a look of 'let me know if you need anything' kind of look as she moved back towards the counter - still within earshot, but far enough away to not really be part of the conversation unless invited.

Kay nodded to [member="Renn Garrick"] . It was quite alright that he had his own drink. He'd probably need it later anyways. That is after he had reached the destination.

Her attention turned to [member="Gray Venasir"] as he spoke up. It was good to know that Lori had met some good people that looked out for her. Besides their Mandalorian family anyways. She smirked as he asked if she had been made aware of the previous adventures that Gray and Lori had shared. "Oh I don't think that she'd tell me everything, for fear that I'd keep her within eyesight at all times. But if she's done well for herself than I cannot help but be proud."

Kay led them inside to one of the tables near the fireplace. She pulled out a chair for herself and sat down, describing the Stim tea while [member="Evangeline Delias"] left them to collect it. "Stim tea helps raise one's awareness and focus. Pilots and others are quite fond of it."

Lord Mayhem had followed them in as well. Though he sat at the table nearby, right on top of it. His legs were crossed and he stared directly at Kay with his white eyes, fingers steepled together while his elbows rested on his knees. Even though she had known him for decades, Mayhem still gave Kay the creeps at times. Especially when he was silent. That was when he was the most dangerous. It meant that he was plotting.

Once Eva had returned with the tea, Kay nodded to her in thanks. She understood her message and would surely take her up on it soon. But right now she had to get to business. Turning her attention on the two men, Kay laid out the task for them. "What I require is reeksa root. It's a rare and carniverous plant found only on Iego. I'd go there myself, but it is far too close to the Sith Empire's boundaries for my liking. Plus the reeksa plant isn't so easy to take down. You can't simply blow it up. You can't poison it either. No chemicals can be introduced to it or you risk contaminating the root. Yet the plant is dangerous and has sharp teeth. It can ensnare people easily, so you must be cautious. But you must kill it so that you can access the root deep underground. I'll need you to get as much as you can and secure it in the containers that I give you for transport. And also...try not to catch anyone's attention. I don't want the Sith or others to know about it. Now I can provide transportation and you'll be paid well for your efforts, including hazard pay. And the more reeksa root you bring me, the higher your pay will be. Any questions?"
