OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Azure Imperium
  • Affiliation: Voph
  • Model: DX-8 "Outrigger"

  • Production: Unique
  • Material: Ultrachrome plating, Transparisteel viewport, Durasteel Frame, Circuitry
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Heavy Fighter
  • Length: 68 Meters
  • Width: 58 Meters
  • Height: 19 Meters
  • Armament: Very Low
Standard Issue Dual-barrel turrets x2: Placed above and below the cockpit, the turrets can be locked to forward fire mode to allow the pilot exclusive control, or can be bound to the co-pilots controls and used as remote turrets. They don't pack much of a punch, however, and are only useful against other star-fighters.

[*]Defenses: High
[*]Squadron Count: None
[*]Maneuverability Rating: Extreme
[*]Speed Rating: Very High
[*]Hyperdrive Class: Average
STANDARD FEATURES
  • Deflector Shields: Standard Issue deflector shields
  • Outrigger Engines: The outrigger engines offer various advantages and disadvantages, detailed under strengths and weaknesses. The rear engines contain landing struts, and rotate slightly to allow the craft to rest on planetary surfaces and landing pads.
  • Laser Turrets: Detailed under armaments
  • Life Support: The ship offers a life support system that can sustain two passengers for a month, if functioning optimally.
  • Planetary Vehicle Bay: The Cargo hold allows the ship to store small planetary vehicles, such as speeder bikes.
  • Hyperdrive: Allows the ship to travel at Lightspeeds

ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • ECM array: While the ship has no true stealth system, it does posses an ECM array that can prevent target lock for a few seconds.
  • Sensor array: While the standard models have an inbuilt sensor array, the Resurgence sports a slightly stronger sensor array, allowing it to spot ships further away than the average fighter.
  • Overtuned Engines: The Engines on the Resurgence have been tuned for more thrust than the average model, resulting in higher speed and agility.
Strengths:
  • Tank: The Resurgence is built with Ultrachrome plating, resulting in a ship that can take a few hits before internal damage becomes an issue.
  • Speed: The engines allow The Resurgence a surprising agility given the size of the ship.
  • ECM Array: Whatever the hull doesn't stop, the ECM stands a good chance of stopping. While it doesn't prevent target lock forever, it can buy those vital seconds needed to turn the tide of a fight.
  • Sensor Array: The upgraded sensor array allows the ship to see other vessels long before it enters the average sensor range of smaller ships, allowing it to keep a low profile when necessary.
  • Fishbowl: The large viewport offers the pilot a widely unobstructed view of the battle around him.
Weaknesses:
  • Fishbowl: The large viewport at the front of the ship offers an excellent view, but it's also a weakpoint in the design. In fact, many criticize the design as being inherently flawed, and often lethal unless the pilot is wearing a vacuum sealed suit.
  • Line of Fire: The turrets are tucked away in compartments that open to reveal the guns, which limits the fire arc somewhat. Add to this the positioning forward of the curves in the design, and the fire arc is limited, preventing the ship from firing at anything within the 8-10 o clock wedge behind it.
  • Outrigger engines: While this does allow for higher manuverability, the engines are largely unprotected. This makes them an extreme vulnerability against a skilled pilot.
  • Large size: Large enough that it could be considered a small corvette, this fighter is an exceptionally easy target.
  • Struts on the Engines: Two of the landing struts are mounted on the bottom of the rear two engines. In the event these are damaged, the struts cannot extend.
  • Need more Duct-tape: In the event of the viewport shattering, the Life Support system is rendered innert. In spite of this catastrophic flaw, the design was not updated to compensate, and would result in the entire ship depressurizing.
Description: The Resurgence is a modified DX-8 Outrigger gunship that has traded off the usual armament for a pair of defense turrets to gain more speed, and more hull armor. At Voph's behest, an increased sensor range was installed in lieu of the standard issue sensor array, as well as the ECM array to help compensate for the fatal flaw in the viewport's design. The ship was initially designed to function with a crew of up to 5, Pilot, Co Pilot, Gunner, Engineer, and Munitions Handler (Should kinetic weapons be installed). The Resurgence, however, can be crewed by a single person, though a copilot's seat is still installed behind the Pilot's seat.

Much of the internal space on a typical Outrigger is devoted to Munitions and structural reinforcement, but the Resurgence has been modified to convert the normal Munitions bay into a standard Cargo bay. The crew quarters have been condensed down to a single captain's cabin, still modest in size and scope, and spare bunks are installed into the galley as folding panels along the wall. The Ship's galley is modest, able to sustain the usual crew of one, but doesn't carry any of the luxuries that personal star ships usually posses. The ship also lacks a medbay, with the owner and pilot intending to utilize other means to heal himself or his crew.
