The Quintessence is based on an old design that has proved reliable for hundreds of years. This round-headed design medium freighter is still fairly popular, and variations have seen use as transports and military light frigates.

Originally The Harlequin, this vessel was manufactured in 385 ABY by subsidiary of KDY, whose name was used to manufacture a budget line of KDY vessels. There are a few similar models found in the galaxy, but this ship is made of parts that are freely available. The design is reliable and easy to maintain.

The Harlequin served as a transport for a respectable trade and logistics company based on Eriadu. She was stolen by Kairon Rees, whose father than the trade company and refitted as a smuggler vessel. He had originally intended to sell on The Harlequin, and return to a life of pirating. However, when his daughter’s son Asmus Janes, joined him in search of adventure, he could not condemn the exuberant youth to the brutal reality of pirating.

The ship is reasonably fast in a straight line, but handles like a pig.

One of the ship’s redeeming features is the cargo arrangements. Two main cargo holds sit just behind the front section. Each of these can be detached from the ship and have repulsors that allow limited motion and are remotely controlled from the bridge. When the vessel cannot dock within a smaller, the cargo can be quickly unloaded and dropped off. Each of these cargo bays is separately climate controlled, to allow a variety of goods, flora and fauna to be transported. Behind these is a large space where further cargo pods can be attached to the vessel.

The ship is highly modular for upgrades. Mounting points for weapons are currently unused, and engines and sensor arrays are easily upgraded. The ship has a large space dedicated to a sensor system that was exceptional in its day, but is now distinctly average.

Outwardly, she has seen better days. Her current coat of teal paint is fading, and the visage of the scantily clad Harlequin is almost visible beneath her logo.

Internal Layout

Most of the crew space is in the saucer shaped section at the head of the ship, which is split into two levels. The upper level contains the cockpit, designed for up to four crew members. Behind this is a general living area / office space. A ladder still extends above and below the saucer section, even though there are currently no turrets mounted. However, there are some small spaces here, where the crew will often hide small items they don’t wish to be found in a search.

On the floor below, a central chamber houses to ship’s navigation system and main computers. This room is cooled to 14C. A corridor runs around this and the space outside of this is “sliced” into 8 small rooms. Each housing a bed that folds down from the wall, a washbasin and a wardrobe. The Captains room is larger than the others and has a large desk and personal sonic shower. A final room houses the communal showers.

A long corridor runs through the frame of the ship that connects the front of the ship to the rear. Access to modular cargo bays is from this corridor, which is wide enough to move large items between bays if necessary.

At the rear of the ship, the easily accessible areas are split into two floors. The upper level houses a small canteen and has a ladder to provide access to the ion turret.

The level below is the main engineering room, which provides maintenance access to key engine systems / further smuggling locations.

*mutters something about KDY poaching CEC designs and needing to sue [member="Lorelei Darke"]*

Everything looks to be in order.

Approved, pending secondary approval.
