The possessive flame

Yellow hues pierced the darkness of the room, the woman sitting quietly in the bucket chair. She sat quietly, her upper body bared completely, scars of her life revealed in the dim starlight that slipped in through the view screen of the vessel. Those brilliant hues fell upon the sleeping form of the young woman, watching the steady breathing of the sleeping beauty. Memories flashed within her mind, causing her to exhale as she closed her eyes. She could still smell the smoke, hear the screams of the dead and dying.

All those years ago her and her Order had fallen upon the Kiffar village, thought to be the home and haven of some force cult. She could have stopped it, though it was by her own order that the village was put to the sword. Fire engulfed many homes and many found themselves thrown upon the pyres. The crying of a young girl caught her attention that night, and while she should have brought about the same fate upon her, something prevented Amelia and held her hand that night.

Bringing her eyes to open slowly upon the young woman that lay in the bed she shook her head of the memories. The young girl she had found crying now lay in the same room as she. A slight tick escaped the side of her mouth as she remained watching, unable to draw her attention away. Even now she fought with herself over the decision she had made. Even now something in the back of her mind told her to merely press the pillow down and hold it firm until she no longer thrived.

Again she shook the thoughts from her mind, for this woman was far too valuable. How many times in those years since had her abilities saved or healed Amelia? Truly that should have been enough to prevent those kinds of thoughts, though it appeared as it was not enough. Sitting up from the chair she pushed herself towards the bed, standing at the edge, looking down upon the beauty.

"Solanna."

She whispered to herself, so quiet as to not wake the girl. Bringing her hand up, she reached forward before catching herself about to caress the woman's shoulder. Pulling her hand back almost as if in disgust she turned away, looking out the view screen before sitting at the edge of the bed. A heavy sigh escaping her lips as she tried to figure out what she was doing.

Amelia should have been sleeping now, resting, though she was restless and for reasons she couldn't even comprehend or fathom. It couldn't be feelings, there was nothing there was there? No, Solanna was nothing more than a plaything for the woman, a faithful handmaiden that had turned from time to time to be a toy for Amelia. That's what she told herself, that Solanna was a toy, nothing more existed, she was a plaything that had to be kept from the galaxy least she be destroyed.
