PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer: Originally manufactured by Corellian Engineering, this particular freighter has been in Jay's family for generations. Over the years, it has been heavily modified. Few of the modifications are readily apparent but all work to make the Odyssey the unique vessel it is.Affiliation: Jay
Market Status: Closed-Market
Model: modified XS-class Freighter
Production: Unique
Material: standard ship building materials
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Classification: Cargo-CorvetteLength: 101 meters
Width: 88 meters
Height: 27 meters
Armament: High
- 2 HSG-67 laser cannons one mounted dorsally on the saucer section and one laterally on the port cargo hold
- EMP burst generator - at the touch of a button, the Odyssey can send out an EMP burst effecting electronics within a half kilometer radius
- standard deflector shields
- EM radiation suppression - the Odyssey can suppress its own electromagnetic radiation rendering it virtually undetectable by electronic means
Hangar Allocations: none
Starfighters: none
Support Craft: none
Single Craft Hangar: No
Maneuverability Rating: Average
Speed Rating: Average
Hyperdrive: The Odyssey is equipped with a modified hyperdrive. Modifications have made the hyperdrive more efficient and a touch faster than your factory spec freighter. Not only is fuel consumption kept to a minimum, the drive's output is equivalent to a class 1.5 hyperdrive.
STANDARD FEATURES
- except as noted below, the Odyssey has all standard features
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
- modified, extra efficient hyperdrive, class 1.5
- modified, extra efficient sublight engines provide standard speed at a fraction of the fuel consumption
- the cockpit and ship's controls have been modified to be operational with anywhere from a single pilot to a full five person crew
- for generations the Odyssey has served as a family home. It has expanded, and extra comfortable, living quarters including a refresher, galley, dining area, and rec room. Many very small voids, no larger than a datapad, have been built into the walls and floor.
- enhanced communications - the ship's comm systems have been upgraded to handle multiple encrypted channels not normally available to civilians. In fact, the system has been upgraded to the point that if the Odyssey is close enough, it can be used to slice into most shipborne computer systems
STRENGTHS
- modified cockpit allows for operation by a single pilot or a full flight crew
- highly efficient engines allow the Odyssey to travel much further before needing to refuel
- the Odyssey can generate an EMP burst powerful enough to shut down, or destroy, electronics within a half kilometer radius
- life support functions, food, and water supplies are increased due to the emphasis on using the ship as a home. This allows the crew to remain spaceborne for extended times before needing to resupply
WEAKNESSES
- with most of the ship given over to living space, cargo space is reduced
- whenever an EMP burst is utilized, the Odyssey is also effected leaving her dead in the water so to speak
- although "body work" can be done by any mechanic, the ship's "guts" are too customized requiring Jay or Kaylin to do the work
- to make room for other systems, the autopilot has been neglected. It can maintain vector and velocity but can make no changes to either
- while the dorsal gun can be operated from cockpit or manually at the gun itself, the lateral gun can only be operated from the cockpit. This limits the amount of firepower that can be brought to bear, especially when flying without a full crew
DESCRIPTION
The Odyssey has become a well known ship throughout the galaxy over the decades that Jay's family has used it as a mobile home. From the outside, the Odyssey is fairly nondescript. Aging but well-maintained, the only identifying features are faded markings that harken back to more... profitable... days. There are three entrances to the ship. A seldom used docking port and a small loading ramp lead into the main airlock on the starboard side of the ship while a large loading ramp gives access to the port (main) cargo hold.As soon as you step out of the airlock into the saucer section, you can feel that the ship is more of a family home than a simply cargo hauler. The rec room contains a variety of exercise and martial arts equipment as well as holoprojectors, a dejarik table, and a variety of card games. The large galley/dining room is equipped with an autochef as well as manual cooking facilities. Even the crew cabins, though sparsely furnished, feel more like a home that a ship. Extra comfortable bunks and cozy blankets are in each cabin while the two continuously occupied cabins boast everchanging personal touches such as photos and knickknacks.
Of special note is the ship's cockpit. Originally designed for a full complement of four (five if a dedicated gunner is aboard), the Odyssey has been re-designed to function with anywhere from just a single pilot up to the full complement. The captain's seat has been renovated to sit in a semi-circle of controls so that a lone pilot could manage all major systems.
