Intent: Flagship for my character, @[member="Vilox Pazela"].
Development Thread:
  • #1 In the Depths of Obscurity - Darth Vazela brings schematics and designs he had made during his four decade self imposed exile on Kirima, in the Kalinda system, to the Mon Calmari shipyards, in the Dac system. Here, he passes the schematics and designs of the Obscurity to the Mon Calamari engineers, who construct and assemble the first Attrition-class Star Destroyer.
  • #2 Voyage to Aeten II - In it's second phase of development, Darth Vazela departs from the Dac system to the Aeten system on board the Obscurity. When the Star Destroyer arrives in orbit of Aeten II, the Sith Lord begins accumulation of stygium crystals for it's cloaking device. More detail on the Annihilator-class generators developed in "In the Depths of Obscurity" is revealed here.
  • #3 - Flight of the Obscurity - Disenfranchised with the Sith Empire, Darth Vazela has left the Sith on board the Obscurity. Departing the Dromund Kaas for parts unknown, the Obscurity is stolen from the Sith Empire by the Dark Jedi, thus making it his own personal flagship, rather than it being an active serving Star Destroyer in the Sith navy.

Description: The Obscurity is the first Attrition-class Star Destroyer that was constructed by the Mon Calamari shipyards, in the Dac system. Firstly developed on Kirima, in the Kalinda system, Darth Vazela returns to the Empire for the first time in four decades after ending his self imposed exile. Bringing with him the schematics and designs he had developed on Kirima to Dac, the Sith Lord passes them over to the Mon Calamari engineers, who use them to construct the first Attrition-class Star Destroyer, the Obscurity. Following three months of construction in the Mon Calamari shipyards, the Obscurity ventures to the Aeten system to collect stygium crystals for it's Annihilator-class generators, the new cloaking device installed into the Star Destroyer.

The Attrition-class Star Destroyer was designed to be a vessel that operated in the shadows, hence the first of it's line being dubbed the Obscurity. It's cloaking devices were called Annihilator-class generators. The generators operated in the principle of utilizing stygium crystals in a more, efficient way to maintain an erected cloak surrounding a vessel. Subsequently, when these generators are at full power via the fuel of stygium crystals, an Attrition-class Star Destroyer can maintain a cloak indefinitely, but not forever. The estimated time in which an Annihilator-class generator, at full power on board an Attrition-class Star Destroyer, can maintain an erected cloak is at two days.

The Obscurity in particular was created with the ethos that it would be developed into the perfect weapon by it's master, Darth Vazela. It is thus susceptible to modification, as the Sith Lord travels across the galaxy, searching for new technology to add to his personal flagship. It was also designed to act as a deep space vessel and subsequently created to be self efficient and self reliant. As it's master prepared for it's voyages against the Empires enemies, the Obscurity was made with resources enabling it to maintain and look after itself. For example, if damage was caused during a skirmish with another vessel, the Obscurity and her crew would have the resources available to repair such damage without the necessity of visiting a shipyard. Of course, this is just for minor fixes. High leveled damage such as the destruction of it's bridge, for example, would require it to be repaired within a shipyard such as the Mon Calamari shipyards, where it was first constructed. Furthermore, full maintenance of the Obscurity after two to three years of deep space exploration would be necessary, due to resources and supplies running out by this time.

Consequentially, by the erection and maintaining of it's cloaking field, the shields on board an Attrition-class Star Destroyer are inoperable due to the energy required to maintain the cloak around ships such as the Obscurity. Subsequently, if a ship were lock onto an Attrition-class Star Destroyer whilst it was cloaked and managed to fire upon it, the resulting fire would incur a direct hit on the Star Destroyer in question. For all pretense and purposes then, the Obscurity is at it's most vulnerable and at the same time, advantageous, when it is cloaked. Due to it's design, the Attrition-class Star Destroyer does not have a gravitic modulator or thrust trace dampeners. This means that the vessel is suspectible to being detected by the very rare Crystal Gravfield Trap or careful sensor sweeps for engine exhaust. This means that a commander in control of an Attrition-class Star Destroyer would have to be careful about how they navigate their vessel.

Due to all of this, the Obscurity will never be a finished ship. As it's master flies aboard it across the galaxy, encountering new pieces of technology that can be incorporated into it's systems, the Obscurity will continue growing until it is the perfect weapon for it's master and his objectives to invade the galaxy.

Following the defeat of Tyrin Ardik as the Sith Empire, Darth Vazela decides to leave the Empire forever, for parts unknown. Taking the Obscurity with him away from Dromund Kaas, the Star Destroyer is consequentially stolen by him following his aspirations to become something better than the Sith. Thus, theObscurity changes hands from a Star Destroyer serving the Sith Empire to instead Vilox Pazela, the Dark Jedi who stole it.
