Private The New Recruit

VVVDHjr.png

Arriving at Coruscant, Vitiion had wasted no time trying to find where she could enlist to join the Galactic Alliance. She was still carrying her belongings from landing, not even bothering to find a place to stay. She had been walking with purpose around the planet, keeping her head up high and confident. Just because she had been exiled from her home didn't mean that Vitiion was going to be acting like a hurt puppy. No-one was going to be willing to help her if she just stood around feeling sorry for herself so she could only plan on herself helping her as she headed through the crowds, eventually finding her way to her enlistment.

The enlistment process didn't seem to take too long. Just signing her name in a few places, giving her history. Part of her was debating whether or not to lie about where she had came from but upon thinking on it, Vee decided it would be best to embrace her exile. There was no point in her hiding it, since the truth would eventually been found out either way. Plus lying didn't really suit her. If you didn't want to tell someone the truth, you should just stay quiet, or at least that was her belief.

Once the enlistment was actually done, Vee headed off to where she was meant to be staying for the foreseeable future. Walking off to the Barracks so she could store her belongings away for now instead of dragging them along with her, kicking them under the nearest bed she could find. The bag hadn't been overly heavy, it was just filled with a bunch of useless things for her right now, mostly just clothes from her home, alongside a small set of tools for her to fiddle around with in her free time.

After everything had been tucked away, Vee decided it would be best to try and get to know the planet she was going to be staying on a little bit better. As much as she was itching to get a blaster in her hands again, she knew it would probably be a day or two before she could start training. It was frustrating to say the least but at the same time, it made somewhat sense. They'd need to go over her information, make sure nothing was falsified or fake. She wasn't an overly patient person but the Atoan could wait a short while before she could get what she wanted, and in the meanwhile she could see what she could find, or who she could find around the area.

Outside the barracks Vitiion would find a green armored Mandalorian leaning on a rental four seat speeder with an orange paint job. Lieutenant Minerva Fhirdiad was watching an intense shock boxing match between a Weequay and a Duros via a handheld holoprojector. It was in the second round already the Duros was getting the worst of it, looking battered all over.

Good thing I didn't bet any credits on that sleemo. That would've been embarrassing.

Getting bored with what seemed to be a one sided beatdown Minerva turned off the holoprojector by pressing a button to the side. Disappointed, the warrior shook her head. It was then she finally noticed the pink haired Atoan coming out. Immediately Minerva pinged her as a recruit; the newcomer's mannerism was not military. Although she detected a hint of confidence in the younger woman not usually found among people coming into basic training.

Arms folded across Minerva remarked.

"You're new around."

Vee was getting ready to walk off after she saw the Mandalorian...Up until they spoke up, and she raised an eyebrow at the voice, turning her head over towards the Mandalorian. She folded her own arms along her front as she looked up towards Minerva, raising an eyebrow ever so slightly. Was it that obvious she was new in this place? Well...It wasn't that surprising, was it?

"...Yes. I am. Arrived less than...two hours ago now. I haven't been paying attention to the time."

She hadn't taken notice of the time when she arrived on the planet, nor when she left the Barracks. It was just more of a gut feeling of how long she had been here as Vee just kept her arms folded, and kept her head up high. Vee wasn't entirely sure who the Mandalorian was, but that didn't mean she was going to look down at the person. It just meant she was going to make more of an effort to come off as confident, instead of being a lost girl. The idea of someone thinking she needed help was a sore subject for her.

"I have permission to be here. I just enlisted and placed my belongings away."

It was more of a reaction statement than anything. She didn't want anyone to think she was trespassing here. Consider it more...her being afraid of getting in trouble again, after having just started to get comfortable.

Minerva let out a brief chuckle through the helmet while giving a nod. On one hand she was amused by the response but on the other she respected the determination in Vee's eyes. Many recruits on their first day were like lost little Banthas that needed to stay close to the herd. Somehow Minerva got the feeling it wasn't like that with this one. At further examination she started to guess that Vee wasn't from Coruscant but definitely not from Corellia's countryside either.

She looks human and probably is but who knows. Not that it matters. As long as she proves herself worthy.

Clearing her throat the Mandalorian then declared.

"The name is Minerva Fhirdiad and yes I'm a Mandalorian in case you're still wondering. What's your name, newbie and where ya from?"

Minerva had intentionally let out her rank so as to test Vee how behaved without that piece of knowledge. While proudly part of the Alliance armed forces Minerva wasn't a traditional minded officer to begin with, not that she wouldn't hesitate to enforce military discipline when necessary/ Of course if this new girl asks she will just come up with something to delay the inevitable.

Vee raised an eyebrow at the chuckle, trying not to find it to offensive. She was sure the Mandalorian didn't mean anything by the chuckle though it did kick in her concerns about seeming weak as she just raised her head up more, preparing to answer the Mandalorian's question, though part ofh er was already curious as to how exactly the Mandalorian was a part of things here...Though curiosity killed the Wampa in her eyes. If she needed to know the information, she would know it.

"...Vitiion Daivik. That's my name. Not Newbie. I'm from Atoa. Not that many people have heard of it. Who wants to visit a backwards ice planet?"

She kept an eyebrow raised, listening to Minerva carefully. Was this some kind of interrogation? Someone to speak to her informally to learn more about her? Or maybe it was someone who was actually curious to learn about her. Either way, she wasn't entirely too sure how to feel about the entire thing, and wasn't sure if she wanted to care about it, as she kept her arms folded and holding her head up high, even if she was smaller than Minerva ever so slightly.

"You being a Mandalorian doesn't matter that much to me. It is a part of who you are, yes. But I refuse to let what people are affect my opinion of them."

It wasn't meant as an insult. It was more what she thought of people. Being a Mandalorian, or a soldier, or a Jedi. It didn't make her think any better or nay less of someone. It was their actions that made her decide, and Minerva's actions seemed...nice enough. Vee wouldn't say she liked her, but she had met worse people back home.

She's got spirit I'll admit.

Keeping that thought to herself Minerva both arms raised slightly while chuckling again.

"Relax, relax I'm not some cop or spook. Just curious, that's all. Watch out your fellow recruits who will be much worse than me about it heh. They can be as curious as loth-cats."

Putting her arms down the Mandalorian did agree with Vee on one thing. Actions speak louder than words. It is a trait that many of her own vod needed to remember. Deciding to be a little more fair she then said.

"You certainly don't strike me as an idealist. Believe me I've been around plenty of those along with the other types."

VVVDHjr.png

Vee shook her head at Minerva's comment about how the other recruits were going to be worse than Minerva with their questions, only to shrug her shoulders afterwards, a small frown spreading across her face afterwards.

"Then I hope they like the sound of their own voices, since that's all they're going to hear if they pester me with pointless questions. Introductions are fine, but if they start asking me what my favourite colour is, or something else that has no use, then I'm not answering."

Though her eyebrow raised at the idealist comment. How was she meant to take that? She shook her head once more, keeping her arms folded. Sure, it might mean she was keeping her closed off...but that's because she was. She hadn't enlisted to make new friends or anything like that.

"Ideas and Ideals are just that. Idea and Ideals, they aren't real or tangible. They're just excuses that people use when they don't want to do anything. "Oh, I don't think that's a good idea" or "My ideals say that I shouldn't do this." People can do what they want, as long as they don't hold themselves back. "

Was that a bit more blunt than Vitiion was intending? Maybe. But it was how she felt about this kind of things. Letting ideas, thoughts and ideals stop you from doing things was pointless. It was ironic though, when she held onto her own ideals but Vee never said she wasn't a hypocrite. She'd openly admit it if someone called her that, but at the end of the day, it didn't matter to her.

Titling her helm Minerva became silent. Does this girl actually believe that? As a Mandalorian she followed a code. For her it wasn't something that held her back but rather gave her strength and purpose. Of course that is her own point of view. Vitiion is a rather curious case for a recruit she quietly concluded.

If I didn't know any better that sounds like something those dark side folk would claim while they're mass murdering people. Well to be fair atrocities had been committed under the guise of ideals as well. But still…

Keeping that thought confined she returned her focus to Vee, commenting.

"With that mindset I'm surprised you haven't gone over to a gang or a merc crew instead of the military. Whoever fights has to have something to believe in even if it is not political ideals. Whether it be the thrill of challenges, profit, survival, revenge, comradeship or ambition."

Her hands just went to her sides, instead of folding them along her front at this point, giving another shrug of her shoulders. Minerva had a point in asking her question but Vee had her own response and opinion on why she had decided to join the military, as she jabbed her thumb over towards the barracks with a sigh.

"I get a blaster and a place to stay if I join the military. A gang is beneath me, and I'm not for hire so I wouldn't be a merc either. People who's allegiances can be paid for can't be trusted to do anything important. "

Once again, Vee shrugged. What was she even fighting for? She couldn't answer that question herself. It wasn't like she wanted a challenge, or wanted revenge on anyone, or even wanted any friends. At the end of the day, she just wanted to be able to have a cold hard blaster in her hands and something to aim it at.

"At the end of the day, the Alliance was the easiest way for me to get the things I want. Don't have to worry about any law officials coming after me, and don't need to worry about being hired for a job that will go wrong. Only downside is how the beds look, but I'm sure I'll get over it."

Simple and to the point.

Someone who is serving just to have a weapon and a place to call home. That is belief in itself. Good to know that she's not going to sell her fellow soldiers for creds. As long as Vee proves herself she'll likely keep a place in the military. Time will tell, the Mandalorian thought.

Subsequently an idea came to her Minerva remarked.

"Eager to use a blaster are we? In the case there's a popular combat simulator a few streets from here. It‘s called Battlefront. If you're willing, I'll give you a ride and you not only get to shoot but also test your skills even though it would be against holograms and droids."

Vee's eyes seemed to lit up at the offer to go to the combat simulator, a small smile creeping on her face, before she shook her head, wiping the smile off her face and brushing her hands together, trying to act casual and not like she was about to start jumping up and down in joy. Just giving Minerva a short curt nod in response to her question.

"Hmph. Testing my skills sounds good enough. They stopped letting me shoot back home because it was too much effort for them to deal with fixing the targets when I was done. Had to end up finding my own targets...which is hard enough when everything is cold and icy. "

Vitiion folded her arms along her front at that, even though her fingers were itching to get to work. She wanted to be able to work on her skills since as much as she wouldn't admit it to anyone, using a blaster was one of the only skills she had right now and it was the only thing that was making her useful to people. She shook her head, trying not to focus on that mindset instead, just starting to walk closer over towards Minerva.

"Well then get in and I'll drive us there." Minerva replied, gesturing to follow before getting into the driver's seat.

Once Vee took the opposite seat the Mandalorian activated the vehicle and it levitated off the ground with the engines blaring to life. The speeder ascended then pushed forward with Minerva at the controls. They flew and navigated through the traffic and various alleyways for the next few minutes. Once spotting a massive arena with a glass dome Minerva dives the airspeeder toward the entrance. It wasn't long before she managed to park it in an empty spot at the adjacent lot.

Getting out and making sure to activate the speeder's security systems once Vitiion got out. She led the way climbing the steps close by as people came in and out of the entrance. Once inside the pair were greeted by a vast room, containing several gift shops, on the left flank and a lively restaurant that contained multiple holo screens for guests to watch the matches throughout Battlefront arena. In the center was the ticket booth operated by organic and droid workers.

Taking a card she handed it to Vee, explaining.

"This is a Battlefront membership card. I had a spare one that I won in a bet a few rotations ago. You go up there and show them they'll escort you to their arsenal to pick your weapons then a locker room to suit up and direct you to a console to choose your opponents and the type of battlefield to simulate.”

Almost straight away Vee hopped into the vehicle and just folded her arms along her front whilst leaning back in the seat, trying to take everything in one the planet as they started to drive past the traffic and the alleyways, her eyes narrowing as she tried to take everything in.

Arriving at the arena, it wasn't what Vee would have expected, looking up at the glass dome with a tilted head. Sure, it was all a simulation but she had expected something that seemed more...real. Then again, this was Coruscant. They couldn't just throw people into the wild or into a battlefield to practice, so the idea of having the simulation was starting to make sense to her, though she wasn't sure how to feel about the idea of people being able to watch her performance. She didn't want to fight for other's entertainment...but she just shook her head off that thought and brushed herself down.

Either way, she took the card from Minerva carefully and just checked the thing out, twisting and turning it to make sure there wasn't anything strange about it. It wasn't that she didn't trust Minerva. It was more...Vitiion didn't trust anything on a new planet just now. The whole kindness and generosity wasn't something she had expected so it wasn't exactly something she was going to relax around.

"I see...Well. Thank you for the card then, I suppose."

That was her relatively simple response, as she pocketed the card for now. She wasn't exactly much of expressing her appreciation so this was the best she was going to be getting right now as Vee looked off towards where she had to go, taking in a small deep breath. There was a different sense of apprehension now, but she shook her head, trying to stay focused.

"Save your gratitude. This is a challenge not charity. Where some in the military may be content with filing recruit numbers on some charts I believe the fresh blood should be tested to the fullest extent. In combat we can't afford our soldiers to prove be brittle blades. You just so happened to catch my attention and reminded me of that belief.

In the end it is your own actions that will define your path going forward. Don't let yourself down."

After talking Minerva turned and walked away. She meant every word of it as both a Mandalorian and an Alliance officer. While not able to dictate the Defense Force's policies, Minerva would try to make sure whatever Alliance soldiers she notices has potential they will be challenged.

Now it was up entirely to Vee to make a future for herself.
