Description:

Although the exterior of the Mudskipper was almost entirely overhauled from its original scheme, a majority of the changes that were made to the starship revolve around it’s internalized systems. In traditional Republic Engineering fashion, the entirety of the vessel was wholly automated - which drastically reduced the operational personnel count to a single organic being. The ship was controlled by a single computer core, which housed a network of droid brains and slaved systems - creating the framework for a pseudo-Artificial Intelligence; allowing for the starship to develop its own personality overtime. The interior decor, however, wasn’t similar to the rundown appearance that the exterior suggested. In fact, the internal causeways and the like were unpainted bulkheads of forged, and molecular welded durasteel - which blended together in a eye-appealing fashion. There was little to no exposed wiring, or cables, as was common amongst Pursuit vessels. The only place aboard the entirety of the starship that wasn’t machined to perfection, was the engineering bay - as the crew aboard would need access to the various systems that populated the twinned decks.

  • Maneuvering Fins (Dorsal and Ventral,) and Hypermatter Reactor (Central Section.)
  • Automated Turret / Weapons Control Room, Automated Armoury and Attached Medbay, with Primary Ingress Passenger Ramp (Starboard Section.)
  • Engineering Bay, with Integrated Machine Shop and Carbonite Freezing Facilities with Replusorfield Containment (Stern Section.)

  • Lower Deck Layout:
Automated Warhead Replenishment Supply Chamber, with Autoloading System (Starboard Section.)
  • Housing for Retractable Landing Claws (Central Section.)
  • Primary Cargo Hold with Exterior Access Hatch, Integrated Holotheatre, Crew Lounge with Galley, Secondary Engineering Access Hatches and Crawlspace (Port Section.)

In the time before the Gulag Plague, the GX1 Short Hauler was an unremarkable and almost entirely forgettable starship. Unbeknownst to the Galaxy at large, the vessel sought to corner a large swathe of the market by offering the duality of luxury and versatility - as it was easily capable of shifting from a pleasure craft to a cargo hauler. However, despite this handy alteration, this Lantillian ShipWright special was beaten at almost every turn by the Light Freighters produced by the Corellian Engineering Corporation. With such an unfortunate fate befalling their corporation, the Lantillian Shipwrights were subsequently - and almost violently - absorbed into the Tagge Company. Though they could operate similarly, many of their key personnel who were involved in designing the GX1 were fired - meaning that fresh faces were charged with supporting the unspectacular design.

Through the actions of the umbrella corporation, replacement parts and upgrades were still made available for those that willingly decided to purchase the now, antiquated design - but there were no advancements made - leaving any and all future plans regarding the vessel to languish in development. Thus, with the Galaxy falling prey to the infamous virus that all but wiped out any notion of civilization - the legacy of the GX1 has found itself reinvigorated by chance. With those that designed the vessel long gone, and the umbrella company that once jealously held onto the patented rights for production fading into obscurity - the technical architects of the Republic Engineering Corporation were chomping at the bit to get their hands on one of these vessels.

They managed to obtain one of the initial GX1’s from a salvage platform over Skor II, which was in relatively decent condition - despite the centuries of wear and tear inflicted on the starship’s exterior plating. That wasn’t even mentioning the various squatters that managed to force themselves inside the starship and pillage its interior circuitry in the hopes of scoring some pawned credits. However, despite the various missing pieces, the budget for the newest vessel in Republic Engineering’s catalogue would allow the technicians to gut the ship and slowly replace everything from the inside out. Granted, there would be several massive changes that needed to be made, as the GX1 was missing key structural pieces - but that would be of little issue.

Whatever remained of the Short Hauler was soon swept aside and replaced, as the vessel underwent a lengthy refurbishment programme, which saw it’s overly plain design ‘jazzed up’ by various technological advancements. The first, and most notable of these changes was the positioning of the cockpit - which was retracted further into the starship’s frame and thrown off-centre. The reasoning behind this choice was to allow for more internal space so that the towering maneuvering fins would be able to transform and retract inwards for the starship to land. While many didn’t relish the idea of a starship that swapped from one configuration to the next, as they were considering future adaptability, there were a few that enjoyed this change - as it gave the vessel a more amphibian visage.

With it being too late to give the majority what they wanted, the rest of the compartments within the ship were shifted around to better incorporated the retracting and extending landing configurations. Though changed, much of what the original GX1 offered remained the same, with only the converted cargo bay suffering as its square-footage was significantly diminished to accommodate the various changes. One of the most notable additions was the integrated carbonite freezing chamber - which would hermetically seal anything placed within the tube and encase the item in question in carbonite. With that system included into the starship, the aptly named Mudskipper - because of it’s condition it was in before the overhaul - found itself with yet another functionality. Not only could it be a basic Pleasure Yacht, or double as a Light Freighter, but the vessel could also act as a pursuit craft, often utilized by nefarious Bounty Hunters.

As the last pieces of the technological puzzle were put into place, the Mudskipper somehow found its way into the hands of a man called Davron Feln, who’d unwittingly act as the Republic Engineering Corporation’s testbed for additional Pursuit Vessels that could be made in the future.
