STRENGTHS
  • Certain kinds of powerful Voids/Force Wounds make Force use difficult or impossible. The talisman's owner can use the Force in a major Void/Wound regardless. (This ability has no bearing on ysalamiri or Void Stone.)
  • The sphere is the same alchemical metal as a high-end Sith sword (extreme durability, lightning absorption/dissipation).
WEAKNESSES
  • The user's connection to the Force is fractionally weaker at all times, except when the user is located in a Void.
  • The talisman must be implanted to be used, and implantation is a complex, painful ritual.
  • The user cannot simply turn it off and on again. All effects are permanent unless the implant is removed.

DESCRIPTION
The talisman is a smooth, featureless, one-point-five-centimeter sphere of alchemical metal, designed to be implanted in the user's body.

One of the strongest known Wounds in the Force was the planet Nathema, at least before the final death of the Sith Emperor Vitiate/Valkorion. Nathema's Void was so powerful that Valkorion used it as a prison for his strongest enemies, who found themselves unable to use the Force there. He experimented at length, trying to train Force-sensitives who could use their powers there. His experiments found limited success. By a grueling daily regimen of rituals, and at the cost of much of their free will, the Sith known as the Nathema Zealots could use the Force on Nathema. They quickly grew catatonic if removed from the planet. Valkorion considered them a failed experiment.

Velok approached the task with a different set of priorities. The Zealots' near-mindless obedience, for example, had no worth to him. Sadistic rituals and soul-transforming habits likewise failed to interest the Whiphid alchemist except when absolutely necessary. He created a relative handful of implantable artifacts, the Marrow Talismans, which allowed any Force-sensitive to use their powers fully in a Force-denying Wound. The users retain their free will and do not need to spend hours a day in brutal rituals. However, when not in a Force Wound/Void, users find themselves modestly weaker in the Force. This is the sort of gear one would implant in preparation for an extended mission on Akeldama or in another Wound with a strong Force-denial effect.
