The Liberator

Image Source: Here. Orig13 on Deviantart
Affiliation: Valiens Nantaris, the Freespace Rangers, Silver Sanctum Coalition
Manufacturer: KDY
Model: Expedition Class Corvette
Modularity: Usually none.
Production: Unique
Material: Standard ship components
Classification: Balanced Corvette
Length: 250 metres
Width: 25 metres
Height: 30 metres

Armament: (12 capital/8 defence/4 warhead)
  • 3 x dual turbolasers (6CG)(360 degree fire arc)
  • 1 x dual ion cannon (2CG)(360 degree fire arc)
  • 1 x dual heavy turbolaser (4CG)(180 degree fire arc forward)
  • 8 x quad laser cannons (8DG)(360 degree fire arc)
  • 4 x proton torpedo launchers (4WH)(360 degree fire arc)

Hangar:
  • 1 x squadron of fighters
  • 4 x dropships

Special Features:
  • Cargo hold can be converted to hold up to 150 passengers temporarily, usually for moving freed slaves.
  • Can activate engine boost to increase speed but decrease manoeuvrability.
  • Has extensive sensor and communication system.
  • Features significant armoury.
  • Has medical facility and training room.

Manoeuvrability Rating: 7
Speed Rating: 7
Hyperdrive Class: 2.0 (backup 12)

Strengths:
  • Punchy. For a corvette, the Liberator has impressive firepower. It can take on practically any ship of its size and has strong anti-fighter defences too.
  • Command Centre. As the home base of the Rangers, the Liberator has communication suites, medical facilities and an armoury, as well as passenger space.
Weaknesses:
  • Corvette. Though strong for a corvette, it’s not intended for fleet actions. If engaged by anything much larger than itself or by a strong force of attack craft it has little choice but to flee.
  • Haphazard. The Liberator is a work in progress, and many of the systems and functions are somewhat…uncertain.

Description:
Valiens Nantaris’ departure from the Jedi Order left him with grand ideas but little way to realise them. Over the following years with his friend Raloph Scindia he put together a core group of followers he called the Freespace Rangers. The group, dedicated to fighting the Sith, pirates and slavers, needed a ship to realise their dreams.

Following a lead from a friend, Nantaris and Scindia went to an otherwise unremarkable system where they found wreckage from an ancient battle, probably during the Galactic Civil War. One ship there caught their eye, and they towed the corvette back to a space dock and began repairing it. After several years and much investment the Liberator was ready for action and took off.

The ship itself has a substantial crew of 200, but fully a half of them double as the Rangers’ military forces. A long, low cargo hold which runs most of the bottom of the ship allows for several hundred tonnes of cargo to be carried, or an extra 150 passengers for a short time. Since the main goal of the Rangers is to free slaves and resettle them on friendly worlds, this is what it is most used for.

The Liberator also features a full armoury, medical facility and training room. There is also an entertainment area which doubles as a mess. Things can get quite cramped on board, which often leads to the pilots and fighter crews living in the hanger.

As an old ship rebuilt and refitted, some of the systems and equipment is a bit jury-rigged. Communications frequently are difficult, and the ion cannons especially have proven frustrating to get working. Overall though, the ship works for Nantaris’ needs.
Development Thread: Yes. Ship sees action in combat against slavers.
Intent: To create a ‘flagship’ for Nantaris and his band of freedom fighters. This ship is pretty advanced and powerful, but there are mitigating factors. First, it is a unique creation, and this is all Nantaris has for his whole operation. Second, no matter how strong a corvette is, any fleet action will quickly result in its destruction. Lastly, as a Master level character with a major faction, Nantaris could theoretically claim something much larger. A corvette serves him for story purposes without radically affecting the wider community.

This is a fairly respectable punch for a Corvette, but it's also on the large end of the Corvette rating. In fact, older systems would classify this as a Frigate. Soooo... the armament and hanger seem reasonable.

The standard speed we've been seeing lately for 150 meter (ish) Corvettes is Speed/Maneuverability 7.

With the size, armament, and hanger taken into consideration... I can approve this with a Speed/Maneuverability of 8, or I can let you get by with a Speed/Maneuverability of 7 and a 10 post dev thread.

Sweet jesus.

Yes. Yes it is.

Hmm... Alright. I still need to see two points come out of somewhere. 7/7, 6/8, or 8/6. Your pick. I just... A lot of ships in the 150m range have been getting capped at a Speed/Maneuverability of 7/7. There's a lot of dev thread behind this and nothing else particularly stands out, so I'm ok with allowing this 250m ship to be just as fast as the 150m models that have been coming out... but 6/6 is just a little bit too much.
