Faction The Jagged Edge [SJO-OPA]

Born standin' up and takin' back.
Part II - Altor 14

fantasy_landscape_dry_mars_desert_galaxy_planet_rocky_digital-598523.jpg!d

Thinking quiet on their feet, the two groups were able to get out of Bodris’ palace and away from the hostile area. There was no time for chat until they were clear in the outlands four clicks away from the city limits, both groups had returned to their ships and regrouped. Whichever bounty hunters that had followed, who had not fallen for the ruse, had been ‘dealt with’ by the OPA operatives well away from the Jedi gaze.

OPA and SJO did not have much time before suspicious would set in when the bounty hunters did not return in due time, either with dead quarry or intel. With the mission blown, the Rodian not located, a sinister unknown foe and the slavers ships had left and a Silver Jedi still in Bodris’ palace for all they knew. The girl called Kyra had to be left behind, for now.

~oOo~

It was late in the afternoon, the heat beating down on the rocky landscape, and insects were harassing and biting. The wind kicked up fine dust, covering everything in its path in the mini whirlwinds. Eldin stood on the edge of an abandoned open cut mine, looking across the vast hole in the ground toward the furthest skies. It was the direction in which the last of the slavers ships had been seen before vanishing into the atmosphere.

He looked down at the tracker, information indicating the ships were headed to Smarteel. The intelligence gathered from Brown had been correct so far. But if the ships turned off course, and the slavers decided to be cautious taking the slaves elsewhere, at least they would still have a hot path.

Eldin spun on his dust coated boots, smashed his hand against his thigh to knock off more dust to no real avail, it was more out of frustration and annoyance. His blue eyes darting between all the people from both groups, his mind dwelling on the fact the OPA mission should have been completed by now.

“Who the hell are ya’all?”, he knew they were Jedi but knew none of them by name nor if they were actually SJO. “What are ya doin’ all the way out here, pokin’ about the Hutts?”. They could, of course, ask the same question of him and OPA, but he thought he would get in first.

Caedyn Arenais had arrived much later then the others to Altor 14, and incidentally been in the right place at the right time to meet Connor Harrison on the way to the surface. Now the two had come to the entrance of Bodris the Hutt's abode, the last known location of the Silver Jedi Strike Team that had been sent to locate the Rodian suspected to be tied to a slave ring and numerous other crimes of great interest to the Order.

To make matters worse, Caedyn hadn't yet learned the whereabouts or circumstance of his Padawan Kyra Perl Kyra Perl , either. No doubt he would soon find out one way or another as he wrapped his hand heavily against the front doors to the old rusted over looking Palace.

It was an interesting time to be greeting a fellow Jedi, especially with such a long lived history and connection to both the Order of the Silver Jedi as well as his parents; Caedyn couldn't help but wonder what had brought Connor to Altor 14 of all places, however he was grateful of the coincidence given that it meant he wasn't walking into a snake pit on his own.

This wasn't how things were supposed to have gone. Master Qel'dor had been meant to respond when Caedyn had arrived and from there he would link back up with their team and see what progress had been made. What he found instead was only silence and his droid co-pilot had managed to track them this far before their signal had gone dead.

The Palace doors opened and the two Jedi would be greeted by a Twi'lek and several Gamorrean Guard. "We're here to see Bodris" Caedyn informed them, wasting no time to get to the point. The Gamorrean grunted, two of them speaking in their own tongue, a language Caedyn didn't know. The Twi'lek simply smiled a toothy grin and informed the pair to follow.

The Altorian Sun had beat hard on Lon’s back as he was lead away from the palace. He couldn’t see past the blindfold that had been put on him after he had been knocked out after escaping the Bodris’ palace. All he knew was that they were approximately four clicks away from the city limits as the noise of the city started to fade away and all he could hear was the the wind as it began to howl and the dust began to settle on his clothes. Taking the moment to breathe as he took stock of what he could feel around him. The cool metal of his lightsaber still tucked away in his boot which was a good sign.

Lon squinted his eyes as soon as the blindfold was removed from him. His eyes having trouble adjusting to the harsh sun. Judging by the position of the sun in the sky Lon could only assume that it was sometime in the mid afternoon.

A man who looked no more than his early twenties who Lon could only assume was Eldin Daine Eldin Daine from the intel he was given and judging by the look on his face he didn’t know that the other Jedi let alone him was here either. Lon could only speak for himself, he didn’t know how the others particularly the padawans managed to get themselves into a mess like this in the first place.

“Who the hell are ya’all? What are ya doin’ all the way out here, pokin’ about the Hutts?” Eldin Daine Eldin Daine said quite gruffly

Lon to his knowledge only had known this was a covert mission, at least according to the intel report he was given by the council of course. He didn’t think much of it at first when the Outer Planets Alliance first showed up at the Bodris’ palace he only assumed that they knew he was there. Clearly this wasn’t the case and that the sharing of intelligence didn’t go both ways. If the lines of communication were clearly open then the mishap wouldn’t have happened and the mission would have been completed by now. It just got more complicated when master Qul’Dor showed up.

Lon rubbed his temples as he felt the the beginnings of a migraine came on before speaking. “I am Lon Vondon. I have been sent here at the request of the Silver Jedi. It is my understanding that the Outer Planets alliance was made aware of my presence, clearly that isn’t the case” he said as he was gazed around giving the padawans an especially stern glare before continuing “As for the Padawans I am not too sure why they would be sent to the Outer Rim, unless good old Qul’Dor decided to make it his business to get involved in a mission that his Padawans are clearly not prepared for.” His mind flashing back to debacle at the palace, his arms crossing his chest.

The Outer Rim was a particularly dangerous place especially for Padawans. The Silver Jedi would rarely send them on missions on their own, usually it was for diplomatic missions and on missions that required more than talking with the potential to escalate to a fight it was protocol for them to be sent with a Jedi knight. The must have been on another mission when the showed up with the now dead Jedi Master.

Kiegan blinked in confusion, perhaps the heat of the sun messing with the knight's sense. But still he could've sworn this bounty hunter just asked them why they were here. It was a bit weird for someone who had put them all in cuffs to ask them who they were in so sudden a spot, even weirder since Kiegan had thought it to be rather obvious.

Maybe criminals were dumb, but the crew responsible for the stab in his gut sure weren't.

They were probably the exception more than the rule.

"Well I mean I thought that was kinda clear, man." Eyes squinting heavily as he tried to address the man, hoping to jog the bounty hunter's memory a little. "I'd show you my lightsaber but it's either back there or with one of you guys." His brow furrowed with a nod as he hoped to be of some help to this poor man, a smirk covering his bruised lip. Bounty Hunter's could be rough. "Got K.L. on the hilt, but if you want to make sure I'll gladly check for ya."

Of course, the only other knight there, Lon Vondon Lon Vondon , had caught on a bit quicker than the blonde to the whole situation. Kiegan cared a bit less about who the Outer Planets Alliance was as the man took it upon himself to insult the late, great, Qul'Dor.

"Hey!" An angry pitch taking over his smarmy tone as he turned to face Lon. "He died protecting us, the least you could do is show him some respect. How was he supposed to know the Hutt's would turn on us so easily?"

Kiegan wasn't particularly cautious about his word choice, and if they were a tad closer and less restricted then perhaps he could teach the man some respect the way he knew how. But that wasn't in the cards, and probably wouldn't help the situation. For now Kiegan's mind just nervously raced with what would happen to him when they sold him off.

He really didn't want to go into a gladiatorial pit, he was more of a lover than a fighter. But even that route he might end up with a Hutt or Skakoan woman. Taking a few extra stabs to the gut did seem preferable to such a fate.

Amani stared blankly as everyone started interrogating one another, furrowing her brow in impatience before lightly hitting Kiegan Lysle Kiegan Lysle on the shoulder to get his attention.

“Knock it off! There’s no reason to start getting angry.” She glared at both him and Lon Vondon Lon Vondon , hoping to quickly put an end to the knights’ pointless argument. The padawan had no desire to comment on the one and only Qel’Dor’s abrupt death any further.

“They helped us get out. We aren’t getting enslaved.” At least not yet. Amani sighed, and turned to Eldin Daine Eldin Daine , putting up a false bravado and taking it upon herself to explain their situation.

“I’m Amani, and yes, we’re with the Silver Jedi. A slaver called Niseen was thought to be a Bodris’s palace. We thought they might have information we needed... Also, they captured one of our friends.” Perhaps she was a bit too open with the information, but Amani didn’t know better. She looked back to the other Jedi before shrinking back in the silence that followed.

The Silver Jedi did a small sprint to catch up with Caedyn Arenais and Connor Harrison before coming to an abrupt halt beside them. There wasn't even a bead of sweat across his brow as the wind he had stirred up with force speed. He had been lagging behind them, taking scans of the surface while the other two had already descended, his Nova Dive picking up signals from the planet before making a hectic dive after them.

He had followed their trail with Sense, finally catching up to them with a weak smile, and trying to appear as casually as possible. He was still in dark colors, his clothes seeming more formal than most, but they functioned well for what he did. Years of going from temple to temples had done wonders for his attire, and his thoughts on style in regards to clothing.

The palace doors opened, and Tarish positioned himself directly behind the other jedi, not speaking or saying a word just yet as the Twi'lek told them to follow. He was ready to move with them, flashing a half smile to the concerned look the Twi'lek shot him for suddenly appearing. Physical enhancement abilities were Tarish's thing, and he wasn't about to apologize for his sudden appearance, or the dust he had kicked up trying to get here in time.

Acaadi was looking straight as his feet as the started bickering. He was still slightly in shock. Back in the Palace he had sensed the Force moving in a strange way around them. Now he thought about it, perhaps there had been warnings he did not heed.

Neither had the Jedi master, who was now one with the Force.

"I want to help," he said sharply, lifting his head. He looked around at the other padawans. "We want to help. We still can."

"How?"

The question might have sounded rude, but it wasn't. Just blunt. Rude would have been accusatory. After all, a group of Jedi - many of them Padawans - had gone into a Hutt den and had needed to be escorted out. In the process of whatever happened inside, the lone Master accompanying the group had been killed and it was probably safe to assume that the entire team would have been were it not for the intervention of undercover OPA agents. One could make the argument that the inexperienced group was the cause of the violence and the Master's death.

The argument could be made...but the argument would be wrong. Audren was aware that Master Qel'dor had been the one leading the group; the man could be brash and foolish. Many of the finer details of what had happened had yet to be relayed but he knew that the group - no doubt at Qel'dor's direction - had walked in the front door and made demands. Violence had erupted, been quelled, and somehow the OPA had managed to walk off with the Jedi. The Sephi's contact with the OPA (there were still a couple alive who'd known him from the Galactic Alliance days) hadn't had much time, but had given him a rundown and directed him here. His ship had landed on one of the ledges below the lip and covered with camouflage, and he'd jumped up to this level just in time to hear Acaadi's statement about helping, missing everything prior.

If the goal was to find a slaver and captives, there were probably more than a few problems now. Had the Jedi walked into the Hutt's hideout from a position of power they might have gotten results: with squads of Antarian Rangers having taken control of warehouses or with starfighters holding the Hutt's vessels captive it would be cheaper to just give them what they wanted. Yet there had been no backup; the sector was not under SJO authority. Had they not been so brash and instead bargained with the Hutt, the profit might have persuaded him. Instead the Hutt and who knew how many thugs knew the Jedi were present, and that information was probably already flying around town for anyone to profit off of. The target would no doubt know. On top of that, it was possible that OPA undercover agents had been burned as well. The job had just been made that much harder.

Kyra was dragged, limp and unconscious, through the halls of the hutt's palace. If you even called it that.

The speckling of opa and sjo was split into two locations now-- those that left with the padawans and absconded into the safety of the hills to regroup, and those that lingered behind. Kyra didn't so much as linger as ... get kept hostage, but that was a distinction for another time. Her head lolled as the bounty hunter dropped her onto the dirt floor, the air of the sub-basement level cool and damp and stale. The sharp taste of metal was the first thing to reach her as she stirred on the ground.

She groaned as the the grinding noise of the pit grate opening assaulted her pounding head. The bounty hunter looked to the other two-- one covered in a full suit like himself, and the other... ugly as fk. "Grab her feet," he ordered, his words filtered out by a voice box as he bent down for Kyra's hands.

Connor stood beside the Jedi, Caedyn, before the mighty palace. It was as imposing as he expected it to be, but knew inside would be a whole host of nightmarish, sordid and Force-knows what else array of scoundrels and scum. He held his hands down across his front, hands linked. He looked more at ease and less intrusive this way, but he also held down his greatcoat to avoid the lightsaber hilt flashing to the naked eye. For all intents and purposes, he had returned to a more neutral look that removed any immediate association with the Jedi or Sith.

Greeted by the toothy Twi'lek and the Gamorreans, Connor darted his eyes over them all to gauge their positions in case things turned nasty in the blink of an eye. Most likely, it would. It would just be a question of when. But, for now, he was as much in the dark as ever so stayed quiet and let Caedyn lead the pair into the palace.

The light from outside was swallowed up as the heavy doors boomed closed behind them, and what felt like a million pairs of eyes watching them. Gamorreans here and there, a few droids, what looked like bounty hunters, pilots, dancers, music from within. The Hutts sure knew how to entice people in. Footsteps crunched across the sandy stone floor as they followed their host.

"Not the best time for introductions face to face, but a pleasure to put a face to the name. I've heard a great deal about you."

He refrained from the relationship with his mother at this point.

"Can I ask...what are we actually doing here?"

Asking the question was just so he could be fully sure what the deal was here going into a Hutt's palace. He hadn't been back in the swing of things for more than a week, and now he was potentially getting involved with a Silver Jedi slave raid? Oh....how he had missed that feeling of being alive!

Veino raised his hood and the lower half of the mask as the wind whipped the dust off the ground and into the air. He scanned the sky, squinting into the clouds. "Bodris has a few more ships coming in. No idea who they are. Been too long though. They'll know we're not coming back the way and probably guessed we're spies. Or the padawans killed us."

His voice was low as he knelt and scanned the horizon from the direction they came with electrobinoculars. "As for how the Master was supposed to know, he was a Jedi Master, wasn't he? Means he should have been more attuned to the warnings of the Force. More practically, should have known what dealing with the Hutts is like. They're notorious for turning on anyone in a heartbeat when it suits them. Insult them, make them realize they can profit, and it's all over."

He fished in his coat pocket and tossed a set of binder keys to Acaadi. "Get everyone unlocked. We'll see what we can do about getting your friend out. I have a feeling it'll be a stealth infiltration this time. No backup. Any of you have a change of clothes?"

"Unfortunately we may have arrived a day or so too late" Caedyn admitted in response to Connor Harrison, turning to see Tarish Galland catching up with them and giving him a slight nod in acknowledgement. While they were being escorted to the main chamber of Bordis the Hutt's entertainment quarter, there were too many ears nearby to delve into sensitive information regarding their investigation, so Caedyn kept it short.

"I've lost contact with a team of Silvers down here, this was the last known location before my droid lost them. Once we're clear of this place I'll explain more but they may have been here on a lead...-And chit may have gone south" he glanced back to Connor warily, a look that suggested caution without the words needed to follow.

The Palace was nothing alike the Palace that his parents had governed from back on Commenor, this place wasn't fit for any kind of healthy living if judging by the layers of dirt and mold on the walls, the dirtied floors and the occupants which didn't smell any better. He very much wanted to suggest one of the Gamorrean's take a bath, although doubted that would get them any closer to the others if they were still around these parts somewhere. Despite the state of decay, the place was massive and being led down the stone staircase to a floor that felt to be below ground level, Caedyn couldn't help but wonder what sort of mess the others had landed in here.

Finally they were led into the main chamber, there in the center was Bodris the Hutt surrounded by other equally shady characters at first glance. Music was being played nearby, his own private band, though it was difficult to see through all of the various peoples apparently enjoying themselves in what almost looked like an underground Cantina. Though Caedyn had no intention of drinking anything they were serving...

The Twilek announced their arrival before the Hutt, the three of them led into the center of the room where they would be greeted; the Hutt's veiled throne being exposed as the slug's help heaved the massive stone slab that he sat upon, forward to gain a closer look of his guests.

It wasn't a pretty sight.

Tarish gave a small nod in return to Caedyn, listening to the pair speak without adding anything. The news of a team being lost was certainly concerning, but the bland expression never changed on the Antoan's face. His eyes wandered over the interior, noting the state of...neglect that was present. He figured more care would have been taken of a place that housed someone who frequently had guests. But that was obviously a reach as the three of them were led to the hutt in question.

Their announced presence had the stone slab sliding forward and Tarish could not help but feel a bit of pity for the beings that had the job of moving it. He remained silent, knowing he was here to assist rather than lead. At least for the moment anyway. His hands were crossed behind his back, one hand holding his wrist as he cast a glance around the room. A mix of things. A band playing in the background, merry makers, ilk of varying sorts from hired goons to smugglers. At least that was his guess by their nervous glances. His eyes moved forward once more, and focused on the hutt, sense taking note of where they were to everyone else in the room.

He wanted to tell Yula that he was very displeased with her for dragging him into the bowels of what was, hands down, the most vulgar smelling pit he had ever laid eyes on. Enlil wanted to tell her that, but he couldn't. Upon their descent into the pits, they were summarily separated into groups, the foremost of which involved the Jedi who's presence had drive his partner near to madness.

Yula was taken in that direction, while Enlil was split from the party and watched through bars as a raucous crowd of onlookers gathered close around him. The perspiration alone created enough humidity to gag him. The King wasn't about to stand for being shoulder to shoulder with the rabble.

"What's happening?" he barked, stepping back from the crowd to assert his verbal command over the situation.

"Feeding time!" One of the enthused crowd called back at him, only interested in the scene unfolding in front of them. "Gonna be fun! Fun! Blood! Guts!"

"Blood sport," he grunted in disgust.

"Pretty Zeltron gonna be even prettier as dinner~"

He frowned. Enlil had to find Yula before someone did decide to make the Jedi girl into dinner. The damage would be bad enough with Jedi running amok. A raging older sister from the Perl clan only increased the body count.

ooc: tag me if you want to run into me, I'm heading toward Kyra and Yula.

It certainly wasn’t the ideal situation, but Yula was extremely hesitant to let Kyra out of her sight. Obediently, she grabbed her unconscious sibling by the ankles, hoisting both legs onto one shoulder as they followed the bounty hunter down to the pits.

At some point, she’d lost sight of the blonde.

The durasteel gate covering the rancor pit groaned as it slowly withdrew, the squealing quickly drowned out by the raucous cheering of the crowd.

There was no showmanship, no announcement, just the Zeltron Jedi being unceremoniously rolled over the edge of the pit. Yula looked on in horror, her body frozen for a split second before she moved on instinct, jumping in after her baby sister.

Enlil had his work cut out for him.

Eldin let out a long breath as the Jedi began their talk, he shook his head in response to Lon, confirming the OPA had not been informed the SJO would be in the area and he supposed that that was something they did not need to do, after all both parties are in open space. The young kid was the next, acting all cocky, “There are more than Jedi out here wieldin’ sabers, so no, not obvious”. He let the kid rattle on about the old Jedi, seemed he had a beef about it.

Next to speak was a young Padawan, seemed to have more sense in her head than the other two, “Pleased to meet ya Amani, now we are getting somewhere. Alright so we both have an objective to get these slavers and get back your friend. For OPA it is to find the people responsible for many people goin’ missin’ from OPA space. Also there is the Dark Judges. We believe they are behind all this”.

The Jedi that Eldin had taken out of the palace stood silent for most of the conversation, until finally he spoke but few words. Some white haired Jedi pipped up as well, it was a good question, how. “I have their ships tracked so we know where they are goin’”.

“Aye, Veino and myself have been compromised, so we can’t go waltzin’ in, but you haven’t”,
Eldin pointed to the white hair Jedi and Amani, and something told Eldin that this Master Jedi would not be so rash as the dead one. He could see where Veino was going with this, those that had not been in the main palace room were still in play. Eldin checked the tracking device, the information retrieved had the slavers still on track for Smarteel. In fact, they would be entering the system soon which meant it was time for the Jedi and OPA to get a move on.

“I agree with Veino, while these two run distraction the rest of us infiltrate. But we don’t know what the compounds will be like regardin’ how it is guarded, numbers or layout. So I suggest we get there before we make a concrete plan”.

Lon was known to take his missions solo and if he was asked to team up with others he would say no often dismissing them as a liability, he however had no choice in the matter but to team up with the Padawans and the OPA and if they had any hope of getting Kyra Perl Kyra Perl back and ensuring the safety of the other slaves they would need a solid plan.

“Wait, I know my way around the compound.” Addressing Eldin Daine Eldin Daine , that much was true. Before the appearance of the Padawans and Qul’Dor Lon had been doing reconnaissance of the palace grounds on site for two weeks taking note of every major entrance, passageway even down to the schedule of the guards shift rotations. It was easy enough to gain access to the palace with a force cloak, occasional mind trick and good old disguise Lon had managed to integrate himself into the workings of the palace without the Hutts noticing a thing.

They were too busy to holding their elaborate soirées to notice the addition of guards or staff, often the guards were partaking in the festivities drinking themselves to a stupor to even care. Lon had made a few false alarms during that time but they weren’t all that serious until the incident in the main room of the palace.

Grabbing a hidden comm from his robe, Lon pushed a pulsing red button as a holomap projecting itself into the air as it occasionally flickered. “Before we go charging off all half-cocked it’s best to know what everyone is getting involved in.” Lon rolled his eyes dismissed the looks that were thrown at him by the group. “Now before you get all worked up about how I got this, just know it took forever to get my hands on it.” Most of the group just nodded all with the exception with Kiegan Lysle Kiegan Lysle who just scoffed.

“How in the core worlds did you manage that?” his voice laced with sarcasm.

“Weeks of reconnaissance, that’s how. Speaking of reconnaissance you should know better Knight Lysle, now I don’t the expect the padawans to have know how important that is but you of all people should know what that can do in determining the success of a mission especially since you outrank me.” Lon replied not missing a beat.

Lon wasn’t fazed by the tone of voice that the fellow Jedi Knight had taken with him. Lon knew that Kiegan Lysle Kiegan Lysle had two more years of experience than Lon at being a Jedi Knight and in most circumstances he would follow rank, but if there was one thing that Lon had that Kiegan didn’t was that Lon knew how dangerous the Outer Rim was and knew of the various Cartel’s that littered the place especially since the Hutts had such a strong hold in Altor 14.

Turning his attention back to the map. “The main entrances are here, here and here” pointing to each corridor leading to every door in the palace “with the Bodris’ throne room here." pointing to the largest square on the map. Bodris wanted his status known and it didn’t surprise Lon that the Hutt had made the room one of the largest inside the palace. The Hutt’s were vain with their riches and took every opportunity to flaunt their vast yet illegal wealth.

“Obviously we can’t go through any of the main entrances if we want a repeat of what happened last time and if it did we won’t be so lucky, unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any secret passageways into the palace itself which means that we have to sneak our way in. The only issue with that is the wings and the outside of the palace walls is heavily guarded. It shouldn’t be a surprise if Bodris’ amped up the security after what happened in his throne room.”

Turning his gaze to the OPA agents and other Jedi. “Does anyone have suggestions for how we can all get in?”
