THE "IRON NINTH" 9TH MECHANIZED CORE

"Hatred of the invading enemy is a most humane feeling. But it is born with such a pain of heart and torment of the soul that God forbid anyone to experience it a second time."
- Pavel Batov

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

Intent: To create a long-term Imperial military force and narrative tool centered around the collapse of Solipsis' Galactic Empire and the slow retreat of isolated Imperial remnants into the Unknown Regions. The Iron Ninth serves as both a mobile antagonist force and the foundation for a future Imperial successor faction under the command of Cerein Aron. The submission is intended to support military campaigns, occupation storylines, reprisals, political reconstruction arcs, survival narratives, and interactions with both warlord-era Imperial remnants and emerging galactic powers.

Image Credit: [X] Note to Review: The image was created on and for the application linked which I do not have access to. It I assume is actual work done by someone in the corporate body, so this link is the best credit I have currently.

Role: The Iron Ninth serves as the surviving mechanized core of a once far larger Imperial expeditionary formation. Functionally, it operates as a semi-nomadic armored military state wandering the frontier and Unknown Regions following the collapse of centralized Imperial authority. It acts as Cerein Aron's primary military instrument, enforcing martial law, conducting planetary occupations, anti-insurgency campaigns, punitive expeditions, and strategic withdrawals while preserving what remains of old Imperial doctrine and infrastructure.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Unit Name: The 9th Mechanized Corps, also known as the Iron Ninth.

Affiliation: Cerein Aron Cerein Aron and the surviving Imperial command structure of the Iron Ninth.

Classification: Mechanized Infantry with supporting elements.

Description: The Iron Ninth is a brutal mechanized Imperial formation infamous for its uncompromising reprisals, armored assaults, and ruthless occupation doctrine. Once among the most feared stabilization corps within Solipsis' Empire, the Ninth became synonymous with planetary crackdowns, anti-insurgency warfare, and the suppression of sedition throughout the Outer Rim trade corridors.

Its soldiers are most often seen advancing beneath the shadow of armored walkers and tracked assault carriers while long columns of military vehicles stretch across the horizon. Their stormtroopers wear scarred white armor frequently stained by ash, dust, and oil from years of continuous campaigning. Vehicles are painted in muted greys, blackened steel, and weathered Imperial white, reflecting decades of attritional warfare and logistical exhaustion.

The corps maintains strict discipline and near fanatical devotion to order. Its officers believe the Empire did not fall because it was cruel, but because it failed to apply sufficient force against corruption, sedition, and instability. Years isolated from the wider galaxy have only reinforced this worldview into something increasingly severe, insular, and militaristic.

COMBAT INFORMATION

Unit Size: Large

Unit Availability: Uncommon

Unit Experience: Veteran

Equipment:

  • Imperial Stormtrooper Armor [X]
  • E-11 Blaster Rifles [X]
  • Heavy Repeating Blasters [X]
  • Thermal Detonators [X]
  • Imperial Armored Transports [X]
  • Mechanized Assault Walkers [X]
  • Self-Propelled Artillery Platforms [X]
  • Mobile Command Crawlers [X]
  • Atmospheric LAAT/i and Imperial troop landers [X]
  • Recon speeder detachments [X]
  • Mobile shield generators [X]
  • Combat engineering vehicles [X]
Combat Function: The Iron Ninth specializes in mechanized warfare, urban suppression, armored breakthrough operations, and prolonged military occupation. Unlike more aggressive shock formations designed for rapid conquest, the Ninth was engineered to hold hostile territory through overwhelming military presence and relentless operational pressure.

Their doctrine revolves around:

  • armored spearhead assaults,
  • synchronized infantry and walker support,
  • infrastructure seizure,
  • siege warfare,
  • encirclement tactics,
  • and civilian pacification.
The corps heavily favors overwhelming force and logistical superiority over maneuver warfare. Once deployed to a world, the Iron Ninth establishes layered occupation zones supported by mobile artillery, entrenched armored formations, and constant patrol presence. They excel at reducing insurgent-held urban centers through attritional warfare and systematic isolation of resistance cells.

The Ninth commonly utilizes:

  • rolling armored advances,
  • saturation bombardments,
  • coordinated mechanized infantry pushes,
  • and aggressive anti-partisan sweeps.
The corps is particularly feared for its reprisal doctrine. Attacks against Ninth personnel are often answered with disproportionate retaliation against suspected collaborators, settlements, or critical infrastructure. Entire regions have historically been subjected to curfews, martial law, mass detention, and enforced labor quotas following insurgent activity.

While devastating in sustained campaigns, the Iron Ninth struggles in situations requiring flexibility, diplomacy, or covert operations. Its sheer size and dependence on mechanized infrastructure make concealment difficult, while its rigid command culture often creates predictability against adaptive enemies.

Force Abilities: N/A

Strengths:

  • Mechanized Overwhelming Force
The Iron Ninth possesses extensive armored and mechanized assets capable of crushing conventional resistance through sustained frontal warfare and occupation operations.
  • Exceptional Operational Discipline
Even after years stranded beyond centralized Imperial authority, the corps maintains rigid organization, logistical coordination, and command cohesion.
  • Psychological Prescence
The reputation of the Iron Ninth alone is often enough to destabilize resistance movements and intimidate poorly organized defenders before campaigns even begin.
Weaknesses:
  • Rigid Doctrine
The corps relies heavily on conventional military thinking and often struggles against highly mobile insurgents, asymmetric warfare, or unconventional tactics.
  • Logistical Dependency
Its armored warfare doctrine demands enormous fuel, ammunition, maintenance, and industrial support requirements, making prolonged isolation increasingly dangerous.
  • Political Isolation
Years cut off from greater Imperial authority have caused ideological stagnation and growing extremism among portions of the officer corps.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The 9th Mechanized Corps was originally established during the height of Solipsis' Galactic Empire as a premier mechanized stabilization formation tasked with maintaining order across the Inner Rim and Core Worlds. Where naval fleets projected Imperial authority between the stars, the Ninth enforced it directly upon planetary surfaces.

It was not a glamorous command. The Iron Ninth specialized in the ugly realities of Imperial governance: riot suppression, insurgency elimination, urban occupation, martial law enforcement, infrastructure seizure, and armored pacification campaigns against rebellious populations. Entire sectors learned to fear the arrival of its mechanized columns. The sight of white-armored stormtroopers advancing beside armored walkers and tracked artillery became synonymous with the final collapse of resistance.

Across the Core and Inner Rim, the Ninth crushed separatist unrest, anti-Imperial demonstrations, labor uprisings, and seditionist cells with relentless efficiency. Their campaigns were methodical rather than theatrical. Cities disappeared beneath curfews. Dissidents vanished overnight. Resistance movements suffocated under surveillance, military occupation, and attritional reprisals. The corps developed a fearsome reputation even among other Imperial formations.

When the Galactic Empire finally began to fracture under the weight of endless war, political instability, and internal collapse, the Iron Ninth was among the last major formations to withdraw from the Core. Entire regions fell into anarchy behind them as supply chains collapsed, governors declared independence, and Imperial authority shattered system by system.

As the Ninth slowly pushed outward toward the frontier and Outer Rim, they found themselves harassed constantly by pirates, insurgents, smugglers, separatists, and opportunistic local powers eager to prey upon retreating Imperial forces. Every hyperspace lane became contested. Every refueling stop threatened ambush. Every world balanced on the edge of revolt.

It was during this long retreat that the Quintus Campaign began. Quintus had become one of the largest surviving spice highways feeding directly toward the secessionists of the collapsing Core territories. Smugglers, black market syndicates, pirates, and anti-Imperial factions flourished openly throughout the corridor, enriching themselves upon the Empire's death throes while simultaneously attacking vulnerable retreating Imperial convoys.

High command within the corps authorized total pacification operations across the corridor.

What would follow would shape the history of the unit forevermore...

LOTHAL PROVISIONAL ASSEMBLY

"The man who has never seen his home burn speaks easily of peace. The man who has watched it burn learns that freedom is not a gift, but a burden carried by the living." — Governor Gerad Vance

GENERAL INFORMATION

Organization Name: Lothal Planetary Administration

Classification: Democratic Planetary Government

Affiliation: Independent

Organization Symbol: See above.

Description: The Lothal Planetary Administration is the currently recognized government of Lothal. Established following the collapse of Imperial authority on the world, it operates as a civilian democratic administration led by elected officials and supported by a modest planetary bureaucracy. The administration is neither militarily powerful nor politically influential beyond its own borders. Instead, it exists primarily to maintain order, coordinate reconstruction efforts, oversee agricultural exports, and preserve Lothal's fragile independence. Many citizens view the government as imperfect but preferable to the succession of foreign occupations that have dominated the planet for decades. Critics argue that the administration is weak, indecisive, and incapable of defending the world from outside intervention.

GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Headquarters: Lothal City, Lothal

Domain: The Lothal Planetary Administration exercises nominal authority across the entirety of Lothal. In practice, government influence is strongest in population centers and major agricultural regions. Large portions of the countryside remain heavily autonomous, with local communities governing themselves through municipal councils and regional assemblies. Many rural settlements possess a strong distrust of centralized authority due to repeated betrayals by foreign governments and occupying powers.

Relations between the administration and the population are generally cooperative, though often strained by limited resources and political infighting.

Notable Assets:

  • Lothal City Administrative Complex
  • Lothal Civil Assembly Hall
  • Lothal Agricultural Exchange
  • Planetary Reconstruction Bureau
  • Lothal Civil Defense Headquarters
SOCIAL INFORMATION

Hierarchy:

  • Planetary Governor: The democratically elected head of government.
  • Ministerial Council: Responsible for agriculture, commerce, infrastructure, security, education, and foreign affairs.
  • Civil Assembly: An elected legislative body representing districts throughout Lothal.
  • Municipal Governments: Local governments responsible for individual settlements and regions.
  • Civil Service: Career administrators and bureaucrats responsible for maintaining governmental operations.
Membership:

Approximately thirty thousand individuals serve directly within the government, ranging from elected officials and administrators to civil defense personnel. Membership is achieved through election, appointment, civil service examinations, or standard employment procedures.

Climate:

The administration operates in an atmosphere of cautious pragmatism. Most officials are exhausted by years of conflict and foreign intervention. Meetings tend to focus on practical concerns such as crop production, infrastructure repair, refugee resettlement, and budget management rather than grand ideological ambitions.

Political rivalries exist but are generally restrained by a widespread belief that Lothal cannot afford internal instability.

Reputation:

Among locals, the administration is viewed as honest but weak, supporters credit it with preserving peace after multiple occupations and preventing further devastation, while critics argue that it survives only because larger powers have been distracted elsewhere and that it lacks the military strength necessary to protect the planet.

Foreign governments generally regard Lothal as a minor, non-threatening agricultural world.

Curios:

Government officials wear a small silver lapel pin depicting the loth-cat emblem of the administration. Civil servants traditionally carry identification tablets displaying the seal of the Civil Assembly.

Rules:

The administration operates under several guiding principles:

  • Civilian authority over military authority.
  • Free and democratic elections.
  • Local self-governance whenever possible.
  • Neutrality in major galactic conflicts.
  • Reconstruction before expansion.
  • Preservation of Lothal's independence.
Goals:
  • Maintain Lothal's sovereignty.
  • Continue reconstruction of war-damaged infrastructure.
  • Expand agricultural exports.
  • Prevent another foreign occupation.
  • Strengthen planetary institutions.
  • Avoid entanglement in major galactic wars.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The modern Lothal Planetary Administration emerged from one of the most turbulent periods in the world's history.

For many years Lothal existed under the authority of the Empire of the Lost, an Imperial successor state that governed the world through relatively relaxed policies compared to many contemporary Imperial regimes. While relations remained stable for a time, tensions gradually increased as local leaders demanded greater autonomy and representation.

The breaking point came when elements within the Lothal government secretly collaborated with the Tingel Arm Coalition. When Coalition forces approached the system, portions of the planetary government openly defected and ordered planetary defenses to stand down. The Empire of the Lost considered this an act of outright treason.

In response, Imperial naval forces conducted a punitive orbital bombardment against portions of Lothal City before withdrawing from the system. The attack devastated large sections of the capital, killed thousands, and permanently shaped public opinion toward foreign powers. Following the departure of the Empire of the Lost, a new democratic administration was established with significant support from local civic leaders and reconstruction organizations.

Years later, the planet would once again find itself under foreign occupation when forces of the Imperial Confederation entered the system and assumed administrative control. Unlike previous occupiers, the Confederation maintained a relatively limited presence, relying largely upon existing local institutions to govern the population.

This arrangement ended abruptly following the collapse of the Imperial Confederation. Acting upon a communique issued by Supreme Commander Marlon Sularen, Confederation military forces withdrew from Lothal and redeployed to more strategically significant territories. The retreat was orderly and largely bloodless, leaving the planetary administration intact.

With the Confederation gone, the Lothal Planetary Administration once again found itself governing independently. Its leaders hoped that, for the first time in decades, Lothal might finally be left alone.

They would not have long to enjoy that hope.

LOTHAL CIVIL DEFENCE

"We have learned the terrible lesson of small worlds. No fleet comes quickly enough. No ally arrives soon enough. In the end, the only people standing between your family and the enemy are yourself and your neighbours."
— Memorial Address, Lothal City

GENERAL INFORMATION

Army Name: Lothal Civil Defence (LCD)

Classification: Planetary Defence Force

Affiliation: Lothal Planetary Administration

Army Symbol: The emblem of the Lothal Civil Defence consists of a white loth-cat standing atop green agricultural fields beneath a blue star, surrounded by a defensive circular border. Military variants of the symbol often feature crossed rifles behind the emblem.

Colours:

  • Dark Blue
  • White
  • Forest Green
Description:

The Lothal Civil Defence is the official military and security force of Lothal.

Unlike the armies of larger states, the LCD is not designed for conquest, power projection, or offensive warfare. It exists solely to protect the people, infrastructure, and sovereignty of Lothal.

Its doctrine reflects the painful lessons of the planet's recent history. Repeated occupations, orbital bombardments, and foreign interventions convinced military planners that Lothal could never hope to match larger powers directly. Instead, the LCD focuses on local knowledge, decentralized command, civil defence, rapid mobilization, and stubborn resistance.

Many soldiers are volunteers or reservists drawn from farming communities, municipalities, and industrial centres. Professional personnel exist, but the force remains comparatively small and heavily reliant upon local militia support during crises.

The LCD is often jokingly referred to as "The Farmers' Army" by outsiders.

Its members generally wear the title with pride.

"Protect. Endure. Defend."

Reputation:

Among the People of Lothal: The LCD is respected as an honest institution. Many families have relatives serving in its ranks, and its personnel are frequently seen assisting with disaster relief, infrastructure projects, and public works.

Among Foreign Powers: The force is generally viewed as professional but militarily insignificant. Most governments consider it incapable of resisting a major invasion without outside assistance.

Among Veterans: The LCD possesses a reputation for stubbornness. While few expect it to win major wars, many believe it would fight far longer than its size would suggest.

Colonel Elias Renn, Commander of the Lothal Rangers.

Commodore Vela Dorn, Commander of the Lothal Aerospace Wing.

Director Baronn Rell, Civilian Defense Coordinator and representative of the Planetary Administration.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The modern Lothal Civil Defence was born from catastrophe. Prior to the collapse of Imperial authority, security on Lothal was largely provided by military forces loyal to whichever government controlled the world at the time. Local defence forces existed but played only secondary roles.

This changed dramatically during the final years of Imperial rule. When portions of Lothal's leadership defected from the Empire of the Lost and aligned themselves with the Tingel Arm Coalition, the response was swift and brutal. Imperial warships bombarded sections of Lothal City from orbit before abandoning the world entirely.

The destruction shocked the population. Many citizens concluded that no foreign government would ever prioritize Lothal's safety over its own strategic interests.

In the aftermath, surviving security forces, planetary police units, volunteer militias, and former military personnel were consolidated into the first version of the Lothal Civil Defence.

The force spent years focused primarily on reconstruction and humanitarian assistance rather than warfare.

Later, when the Imperial Confederation occupied the world, the LCD was permitted to continue operating under strict supervision. Confederation commanders found the organization useful for maintaining order and public confidence while reducing the need for occupation troops.

When Supreme Commander Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen ordered Confederation forces to withdraw from peripheral territories, the occupation ended almost overnight. The LCD once again became the sole military force responsible for defending Lothal.

Since then, the organization has focused on preparing for what its leaders believe is the inevitable return of foreign powers seeking influence over the world.

The LCD's officers understand a difficult truth. They cannot defeat a major interstellar state, but they believe they can make any invasion costly enough that future generations of Lothali will have the opportunity to rebuild once more.
