The Iron burns hot....

Mandalore
Braslin
...beskar was a hallmark of the Mandalorian culture and a man was not truly a man until he had his own Beskar'gam. Until that time he was unproven. It was this creed that had brought Naimes ahn Dross to the town known as Bralsin which sat on the edge of the Kalita Valley, a valley filled with farmland, woods and a number of homesteads. Bralsin was also home to a particular Beskarsmith that Naimes had heard spoken of in high regard which drew him to the small town seeking the talents of the man so that he could have him forge his own set of Beskar'gam....

...the meeting had been brief and the Soldier had explained his desire to the Beskarsmith who pledged his own understanding and after payment was produced he had set to work. Beskar was not overly difficult to find here on Mandalore compared to other worlds in the galaxy and most Mandalorians had access to it to some extent. Naimes had insisted he be allowed to watch the Beskarsmith craft his armor which seemed an unusual request but the Soldier was eager to see the process and so eventually the Beskarsmith had relented...

...now they stood inside a small dome building, an opening at the epicenter of the roof to allow smoke to drain easily and heat to escape as the Beskarsmith heated the iron and prepared his tools for the process of forging the armor while Naimes stood in the background. He was silent as he watched only his eyes betraying his curiosity as the Beskarsmith placed all his tools as he would require them and continued to heat his forge. Even now as the fires of the forge simmered Naimes could feel the heat licking his features and he wondered just how hot this room would become but if the calloused flesh of the Beskarsmith was any indication it would be very hot, something a man would need to become accustomed to if he was to take up this trade...

...Naimes remained as the forge heated, silent and contemplative, he had very specific designs on what he wanted his Beskar'gam to be and how it would differ from the armor that he saw others wear. All Mandalorians added their own personal touches to their armor after all and this would be no different for Naimes once his Beskar'gam was complete; he would be a true warrior of the vode then and no one would deny him his place amongst them. He would no longer be an outsider to the culture...

...the heat from the forge grew warmer, hotter and Naimes could see the faint glow of embers from where he stood luring him closer to the forge itself as the Beskarsmith heated the furnace to impossible heights. As he moved from the wall where he stood to come closer the Beskarsmith paused momentarily to make eyes at the man but then he returned to his work deciding that Naimes would discover on his own just how immense the heat could become here in the forge where beskar iron was forged into the most fantastic of creations. Naimes himself felt the heat burning his face just a little as he drew closer understanding that it was already as hot as some of the largest fires that he had gathered around; the fires a man might see on the battlefield while war waged all around them...

...raising his hand as he came closer Naimes would shield his face from the intense heat before gazing down into the forge where he saw the coals as red hot embers that seemed like they might collapse into molten rock as their core broke down. None of this happened though as the Beskarsmith continued to heat the forge. Higher and higher it went and the heat would grow amazingly at every interval until it started to become to much. Naimes felt the beads of sweat forming on his brow, felt a dryness in his throat but he kept his position by the forge watching as it grew to even more impressive heights surpassing what he had imagined...

...this forging seemed not unlike how a man might have started to create an archaic suit of armor however much more would be added later on after the beskar was shaped, cooled and the finishing touches added to it. As Naimes looked on, his mind wandering in amazement, he could appreciate the simplicity of it while also understanding the advanced knowledge a man must have had if he wanted to make this his undertaking. It made the life of a mere soldier pale in some comparisons as the Beskarsmith must be scientist, artisan and tradesman it seemed. Truly impressive...

...the heat touched Naimes again and it msut have been ready because the Mandalorian would have seen the Beskarsmith moving to take his tools so that he could start on the first piece of iron. Moving backwards Naimes would retreat to the background once more though the heat had imparted a pulsing sensation that stayed with him as he loomed there to one side with the radiance of the mbers lighting his features once again while he watched the Beskarsmith take up the tongs and hammer to begin his work....

...bang...

....the sound of the Beskarsmith's hammer as it delivered the first blow to the mandalorian iron that was heating in the furnace of the forge...

...bang BANG...

...more falls of the hammer followed and they resonated through the room all the way to Naimes who continued standing in the background where the aura of the heat continue to lick across his flesh...

...bang BANG BANG
...

...the hammer of the Beskarsmith contniued its work pounding against the metal and shaping it into the desired form under the guidance of the tradesman while Naimes watched on unable to look away...

...a pause as the hammer came aloft once more...

...BANG
...

...the thrum of its powerful blow echoing through the room as sparks flew off the beskar iron which glowed a baleful red...

...Naimes eyes would reflect the red of the iron at a distance like they were mirrors to some hell filled with rivers of molten fire and the Mandalorian wondered if even the fires of a hell would be able to penetrate this iron once it had been formed...

...the hammer raised and fell again...

...BANG...

...the work of the Beskarsmith continued in earnest as the muscle lining the mans body and arms tensed with every blow he made of his hammer while working his forge and shaping the iron...

...his eyes were locked onto the hammer as it fell again...

...BANG
...

...Naimes almost flinched as the hammer came down with power this time and he watched as the Beskarsmith used the tongs he'd been holding the piece of iron with to raise it out of the forge and turn it. The Beskar was slowly starting to take shape after the beating it had received. Once it was turned the Beskarsmith would raise his hammer again and repeat the procedure that he had begun...

...BANG
...

...went the hammer as it fell and Naimes watched as the sparks flew again while the iron was shaped, any imperfections pounded out of it so that it was a solid durable piece under the unrelenting guidance of the hammer...

...BANG...

...he was sweating freely now, the heat of the room had completely blanketed him even at this distance and beads of perspiration hung from Naimes brow as he took a breath. Inhaling he felt his throat burn a bit from the heat and he wondered at the endurance of the Beskarsmith who continued on the task of forging...

...BANG...

...truly this was a marvel to behold and it had only just begun. The Beskarsmith had begun work on a single piece for the Beskar'gam that Naimes had commissioned and it would take upwards of days before it had been finished and was ready to be pieced together into a suit of armor worthy of a Mandalorian...

...BANG...

...there would, of course, be finishing touches as well but those were hardly on his mind at the moment as he watched this marvel on the horizon of its creation...

...BANG...

...it was done as quickly as it had begun or at least it felt like it but the truth was that Naimes had been watching the Beskarsmith in awed silence for hours now. As the Beskarsmith lifted the shaped iron from the forge and set aside Naimes eyes would waver only long enough so that he could take a long look at it. The Beskar was raw but still amazing to look upon in this state and the Beskarsmith would douse it in water to cool it and reinforce the finished product as heat was counterbalanced with cold...

...the Beskarsmith turned to Naimes as he finished his work however he said nothing only nodded his head and moved past the Mandalorian to head outside leaving him to follow shortly afterwards. Outside the sun was setting over Mandalore and sinking down behind the horizon on the distance meaning that Naimes would need to find a place to hang his hat for several days while his Beskar'gam was finished...

....he moved off, opposite the Beskarsmith, into the distance of the town where he would secure lodging for himself until the following morning. There would be only darkness, rest and anticipation for now....

---------------------------------------

...the sun rose on the next day just as it was ordained to do and Naimes woke early, wiping his eyes with his hands before dressing himself and complete a short exercise regime that ensured his body would stay fit. Then he moved back out into Braslin on his way back to the forge where he could watch the Beskarsmith hard at work again...

...he was surprised to find that the Beskarsmith had already been awake for several hours and was continuing his work. As it was explained the breastplate was finished and work on the arms, legs and the rest would commence now and that it would be at least several days longer seeing as how the Beskar would then needed to be fitted with other metals and underlay as well before it was finished. Naimes understood and had no issues with any of this. Truly it would not have mattered much if he had...

...the forging would continue over the next several days. The Beskarsmith's hammer never tired though he put in countless hours of work in his forge ensuring that the embers in the furnace radiated with the heat of volcanic fire and his arm continued to pound down with every stroke that he made. His was the endurance born of his trade that had been molded over years working at this forge and while every Mandalorian was strong, the culture was one of warriors after all, none seemed to compare to the strength of these artisans who knew no bounds or limitations. Once Naimes had thought the man would falter but with back straightening and a momentary pause he continued once more undeterred in his task as the hammer rose and fell again...

...at the conclusion of each day a new piece of the armor was completed and Naimes would watch from the background as the Beskarsmith wiped his brow, placed his tools aside and finished for the evening. In his time in Braslin Naimes had been acquainted with some of the locals and minor clans that called this town and the valley it sat on the edge of their home; he had decided it was to his liking and even considered it might be worthwhile to buy lodging here though he knew his time away from home would be vast once his armor was complete...

...the days passed until the fateful morning when Naimes would awake and make his way to the forge to discover that the Beskar had been properly forged. Truth be told he was somewhat saddened by the fact that the process had completed as he had grown accustomed to the heat of the forge by now and would miss watching the Beskarsmith at work. He was however reminded that the process of creating the Beskar'gam was far from over. Now they would move on to the underlay, integrated equipment and the other perks of the armor beyond its incredible amount of protection and this would likewise take time. A Beskar'gam took more work than many were willing to consider but Naimes had no choice but to do so now....

-----------------------------

...he would remain in Braslin during the coming days as well, the Beskarsmith would construct the finished pieces of his armor until they were a complete set that could be worn and in the mean time Naimes had little to do but carry on as he had been. He would consider colors for his Beskar'gam as they signified much in the Mandalorian culture and the unique design of his Beskar'gam would become better known...

...the underlay of the Beskar'gam was added first and consisted of a layer of Armorweave that the Beskarsmith would add beneath the surface of the iron both to increase durability and for the comfrot of the wearer. Naimes was present for all of this as it would take several fittings and applications of the underlay to ensure that the fit was perfect but after several hours everything was in place. Once the Armorweave was added the Beskar'gam would begin to take shape and this is wear the design of the armor truly started to come out. The Beskar'gam that Naimes had in mind was not simply a warriors armor it was also a lighter from of Beskar'gam that would serve as reconnaissance or scout armor. Of course this was all a relative term with concerns to the Mandalorian application of any armor...

...Naimes felt like a puppet most days being forced to dress and redress himself ensuring the armor was perfect but it was worth it. Now came the time to factor in the remaining components that would create the basis of the suit. Initially the Beskarsmith had suggested that Naimes use durasteel however the Soldier had insisted on another, lighter, material and would use Armorplast as the other component for his armor. Armorplast was more expensive, which the Beskarsmith cautioned, however it was also lighter than durasteel and just as durable meaning it sacrificed little in the way of protection. Less weight also meant greater mobility which Naimes would appreciate later on in the battlefield...

...all this was settled and the day wore on yet again but Naimes was satisfied with the progress and before the day ended he would sit on a bench and take his helm in both hands before looking at it. The visor would reflect his features and the aged Icarii saw himself looking back which caused a wry expression to over take him though it was not unpleasant at all and looked to be something more in line with contentment. Indeed, Naimes ahn Dross was content with everything at the moment though he was also yearning to return to his duties out amongst the stars beyond Mandalore...

...it was funny that in this moment Naimes would realize that even though he had embraced the Mandalorian culture and become one of them he was still Icarii and his homeworld was essentially lost in time as were his own people who had almost vanished from existence in ages past. Grasping the helm in both hands Naimes would peer closely at its visor and then set it aside once more before rising up to his full stature at which point he turned and marched out into the open air again. Every day since his arrival he had watched the sun set behind the distant horizon...

...the sun rose over Braslin again and Naimes returned to the forge where his armor was being constructed. The Beskar had been set and the underlay and auxiliary components applied which meant that very few items were required to complete the Beskar'gam. Integrated equipment would be added and a helmet package administered to the helm itself so that Naimes had all the perks that normally came with the armor he would only need to choose what caught his eye the most. A Rangefinder was a must as were motion trackers, thermal vision and advanced optics that he could use to augment his abilities in combat but these were already basics which is why he would also add an hud, noise dampeners and air scrubbers so that he would be better prepared on the battlefield...

...the helmet would take some work but when it was finished Naimes would take it in both hands, raise it high and then set it down over the crown of his head before taking the first look around. Nodding his head he was beyond satisfied and removing it slowly he would have handed it back to the Beskarsmith who made the final few adjustments before integrating it fully into the armor and ensuring all the systems were operational. Options for the remainder of the armor were virtually limitless and Naimes would be able to customize it accordingly after he left with the unblemished suit but there was still one more important matter which needed to be finalized. The Beskar'gam needed a color...

...colors were important in mandalorian society and the color of a warriors Beskar'gam was no different which is why after careful consideration Naimes would settle on the color Black, which represented Justice, as the base color for his armor. It was fitting considering he also worked as a Bounty Hunter outside of his duties as a Soldier in the Mandalorian forces and the color of his armor would depict the justice owed to the mandalorian people for the many trials that had endured during their history. Naimes would select the color and the Beskarsmith would nod his approval...

...it didn't take long to put everything together. The Beskar'gam was nigh complete as was Naimes time in the town of Braslin...

....the last day in Braslin would revolve around the application of several different perks to the armor such as vacuum seals and environmental controls. Most of it was very rudiment as far as armor was concerned and could be found on standard issue Aliit'gam however there was once addition to this Beskar'gam that was not standard; Naimes had decided on it before drifting off into a sleep the previous night seeing as how it would mingle well with his chosen color of Black for the armor. When he arose in the morning he would find the Beskarsmith finishing his work and thank the man, they clenched forearms as brothers in the Mandalorian culture and Naimes would depart for a different part of the town taking the armor with him...

...once he had left the company of the Beskarsmith he went to a different merchant that dealt in specialized equipment and informed him of his needs. Shadowskin could be expensive but the black matte finish would blend perfectly with the colors that Naimes had in mind for his armor and add an element of stealth to the suit. It would take several hours to add the specialized polymers he was informed but the Soldier had nothing but time so he would leave the task in the capable hands of the merchant he had dealt with. Walking away Naimes would venture out into Braslin...

...his next few hours in the town were spent overlooking the valley that the town was on the outskirts of in silent contemplation, enjoying the local cuisine and mingling with several locals whom he had learned were pleasant to deal with in his own opinion. While he waited for the finishing touches to be added to his Beskar'gam Naimes seemed as though he had little in the way of cares on this world, Mandalore and he wondered if he might adopt it as his home the same as he done with the culture of its people. Perhaps in time...

...when the time drew near Naimes was back on his feet and traveling to see the finished product, his Beskar'gam, complete at last and according to the specifications that he had set forth...

...the polymers that made the black matte finish on the armor, the Shadowskin, were applied by the times Naimes returned to the man whose services he had sought and exchanging credits for his time and effort the Beskar'gam was then back in the possession of the Mandalorian. All that remained was for Naimes to try it on and test the systems of the completed armor ensuring that everything functioned perfectly and he would waste no time doing that....

----------------------------------

...the Beskar'gam fit well. Raising his hands Naimes would flex his fingers in the gauntlets that he wore, turning them so that he could look at his palms and then rolling his wrists enabling him to feel the motion as it was completed. Activating the systems in his helm he would ensure his hud functioned properly before switching through the various viewing modes available to him such as the rangefinder, advanced optics, infrared and ultraviolet vision and finally his friend/foe identification system. Everything was working like a charm...

...raising his right arm Naimes reached across to access the diagnostics system that had been integrated into the right forearm of his armor. Enabling it he was able to take a quick scan of the armor. At the moment everything showed as operational but if he suffered injury in combat the diagnostics system would allow him to to track where he was damaged and how damaged he was with regards to both himself and the Beskar'gam. A useful tool if there ever was one. The Diagnostics System also allowed him to manage his environmental controls in the armor and to ensure the vacuum seals were still functioning properly...

...once he finished with all of that Naimes felt satisfied, content even, he was ready and possessed his own Beskar'gam as compared to the standard Aliit'gam he had been wearing on operations before now. No longer though. Footsteps carried Naimes out of Braslin where he intended to make his way back to the front once again and serve alongside the Mando'ade...
