Kerrick had never been the greatest at keeping in touch. Any sort of familial relation was entirely foreign to xem, or any sort of relation at all that wasn't just a mutual partnership whose endgame was another hundred credits at the end of the day. To put any sort of real effort into keeping steady connections with another sentient was an endeavor not typically undertaken. It was easier and much more profitable for all involved to work alone, and it made for less mix-ups and loose ends. And, well, xe didn't exactly mind being alone. It was less complicated than the alternative, and often preferable in xir line of work. Smuggling didn't exactly make for flourishing teamwork, most times. No one wanted to split the pay.
Due to the aforementioned factors it had come as a surprise when xir grandfather [member="Cross Ikon"] had contacted xem with mention of something akin to a family reunion. It wasn't that xe was necessarily unaware of there being other Ikons, but xe had never imagined that the family would gather themselves into some sort of cohesive unit for any amount of time. Each wandered in their own manner, not calling any one place home for an extended period. They were explorers or vagabonds, confining themselves only to the space of their ship and what the greater galaxy had to offer. Xe was no exception to this rule, and so hadn't anticipated something of this sort anytime soon, or at all.
Still, in some sense of the term xe was excited. Or maybe that wasn't quite the right word. 'Anticipating' would fit better, and was largely true. The only members of the impromptu family xe had met previously were Cross and [member="Rik'Tani"]. The rest of them were nothing short of strangers, but xe had a feeling fitting in wouldn't ben an issue. If the patriarch and matriarch were any indicator, it would only get more interesting from then on. Not that xe had really been expecting much different. If nothing was broken or otherwise severely damaged by the end of the trip it would be considered a disappointment. Not that xe planned on being responsible for any of the damage caused.
"Yeah, I know, Micro," Xe cracked a smile at the
droid's assertion that not only would something get broken, but that the astromech didn't intend to be the object of such a statement.
"Nobody's gonna hurt you, don't worry." Not that blasters or any type of energy weapon would cause much harm unless continuously fired against it. A low, indignant whistle was the only retort.
"Cut me some slack. We haven't even really gotten there yet. Help me land this thing, then you can complain all you want. I'm sure Cross would love to hear what you have to say." Of course, those comments were half-serious at best. This was simply the relationship that had blossomed between the two after running together for a few years, regardless of whether Micro was organic or not.
When the
ship finally did land xe set to work shutting down the systems, spinning around in the pilot's chair once the work was done.
"Jack, you coming or staying? It's gonna make an awfully long ride if you stay in the Vagabond by yourself. Micro's coming with, too." That was a detail xe had failed to mention. Somewhere along the line xe had met [member="Jack Smith"] on Coruscant while wandering the city, and the two had become acquainted. The man's apartment building had recently been quite literally been blown to smithereens, and so xe had extended an offer for him to reside on xir ship until another place of residence was sorted out. That inevitably included accompanying xem on outings such as this.
"I promise they won't be too bad."
