TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Classification: Lightsaber
Size: Average
  • Hilt: 25.4cm
  • Blade: Variable
Weight: Light
SPECIAL FEATURES:
STRENGTHS:
  • Force-Bond allows telepathic control, able to activate and adjust the power, length, and thickness of the blade at will and with a thought, as well as to track it virtually anywhere should it be lost or stolen.
  • Rainbow Gem records and chronicles its history, experiences, and environs with ‘crystal’ detail and accuracy, an archive which can be reviewed through the Force.
  • Due to the triple crystals and focusing lens combination used in its design, the blade has no color or sound, is guarded against scanners and sensors, providing an advantage against droids and opponents using technologically-enhanced vision, as well as leaving a ghostly image of both the blade and its user to confound and confuse enemies as it moves.
  • Able to operate underwater and amid virtually any condition, provided all is in working order.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Sheer rarity of materials, expense, effort, and time involved in constructing this weapon make field repairs practically impossible and replacement a long, tedious, and even dangerous process.
  • In the presence of Force-negating/suppressing effects, the Force-Bond between Visanj and the Rainbow Gem may likely be diminished or even severed temporarily, eliminating telepathic controls and – if the manual activation switch is damaged or removed – even rendering the weapon unable to function, leaving her unarmed and vulnerable.
  • Still subject to usual lightsaber limitations such as temporarily ‘shorting out’ when coming into contact with cortosis, and difficulty with penetrating or cutting various lightsaber-resistant materials, such as phrik, beskar, and turadium.
DESCRIPTION:
The decision to create “The Huntress” was not one made by logical or customary methods, but instead was the result of a Force Vision, brought on amid Visanj’s meditations. In it, she saw herself wielding this saber, embroiled in battle and clad in special armor, as her foes began to pile up around her. With it in her hand, she was unstoppable, victorious in battle after battle, enemy after enemy falling before her. When she emerged from the vision, Visanj cleared her schedule at the Ministry of Science and immediately left Geonosis. Sixteen weeks passed before she returned once more, and in her hands, she held the Huntress.
A Rainbow Gem, it may surprise many to know, is not in fact a gemstone at all. Rather, it is living silicon-based organism, often times matured for centuries before it begins to display the bioluminescent glow for which it has become so coveted. The one used inside the Huntress is not used as a lightsaber crystal in so much as it is the weapon’s overall control system. Alchemized and Force-bonded through a series of long meditation sessions, the sharing of blood, and other arcane rites, the gem is attuned to Visanj’s thoughts and she to it. Through this bond, the gem controls and adjusts the power, length, and surface area of the blade as it is commanded, eliminating the need for various knobs, buttons, and switches, and ensuring that Visanj, and only Visanj, may activate and control this saber. Furthermore, if the weapons should be lost or stolen, the gem’s connection to Visanj will allow her to track it, even across the vastness of space and from one star system to another, much like the Blood Trail spells of the Dathomirian witches. Finally, acting much the same way as would a Gabonna Memory Crystal, the Rainbow Gem is capable of gathering, storing, and when called upon – and with Visanj’s permission – sharing its experiences. Thus, the saber is passive recording device, chronicling the conversations, battles, and events of its existence, and then, through their Force connection (or through a temporary connection made with another Force-user for this purpose) the gem can recount them, with total and perfect accuracy and detail. Shrouded into the specially-made pommel cap of the saber, the gem lives comfortably preserved within it.
Next, after the acquisition and Force-bonding of the Rainbow Gem, came the hunt for the various components. Climbing the crystalline spires of remote mountaintops far on the fringes of the Outer Rim, amid the cold temperatures and vicious winds, all for a small collection of Ghostfire crystals or prowling the wastes of Tatooine’s canyons and caves and beneath the blistering heat of its twin suns on the hunt for krayt dragons to collect their Pearls. Visanj raided the tombs of long-dead heroes of the Dark Wars, traveling to distant worlds in the Unknown Reaches, risking traps and curses alike all while searching for Adegan Lenses. Songsteel was harvested from among the well picked-over asteroids of Cularin before journeying on into the bowels of Darth Rivan’s fortress on Almas there to collect Electrum, Beskar, and other items. The end result was the components of the Huntress, for their innate value, rarity, and historical significances alone were enough to buy not one, but perhaps even two, star systems.
The process of combining them took many weeks, many rituals of alchemy and magic, and the finest technology that Visanj could bring to bear. This was a masterwork weapon in every way, even the Maalraas leather holster, dyed, sealed, and treated with a secret blend of Norris Root Oil, Portaak Leaf Amber, and Wintrium, which caused it to harden to near-indestructibility, resist fungi and corrosion to the weapon stored within, and shield it from damage by blasters and lightsabers.
Using the Krayt Dragon Pearl as its primary crystal, the saber then focuses that energy through a Ghostfire Crystal, followed by a Stygium Crystal, and finally through a Pontite Adegan Focusing Lens, to create an immensely powerful blade, having neither sound nor color, being nearly translucent and dimly shining and without the tell-tale hum that lightsabers everywhere are known for. An illusory afterimage of wielder and saber is able to disorient and confound enemies, while the effects of the Stygium ensure against sensors and scanners, making it hard for droids and foes using technological vision-enhancements such as Mandalorians with their helmets or those in powered armor suits to track its movements. The virtually inexhaustible power pack provides ample energy, while the bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse permits it to operate underwater.
Able to wielded in either hand, and designed for effectiveness in several forms of lightsaber combat, be they the delicate fencing techniques of Makashi, the patient defensive skills of Soresu, the cunning counters of Shien/Djem So, or the fierce aggression of Juyo and Vaapad, and even the unorthodox tricks of Jar’kai and Tràkata, the Huntress can be used to its fullest potential in most any situation.
Still vulnerable to the effects of cortosis ore, and forced to contend with the resilience of phrik and beskar and the like, there is another vulnerability present with the Huntress. In the presence of Force-inhibiting fields, like those caused by Ysalamiri or similar creatures, or else by other materials or fields which negate Force sensitivity, the Force Bond shared between Visanj and the Huntress is severed or diminished, meaning that she cannot direct the Rainbow Gem inside to control the variable blade power, length, or thickness, nor can she access its chronicled memories, nor track it through the Force. In fact, in such circumstances, the Force activation feature is also subjugated, meaning that Visanj must rely on the cleverly hidden manual activation switch and if this should become damaged or be removed, the weapon would simply not ignite under these conditions, potentially leaving her unarmed and quite vulnerable.
In all, however, the Huntress is a ‘living weapon’, a masterwork piece valued at astronomical price, and a one-of-a-kind weapon of terrific advantage.
