Blind Jedi from the past.
image0.jpg

NAME: Gearing Gurke

FACTION: none

RANK:
  • Pre-Carbonite Freezing: Jedi Temple Guard
  • Post-Carbonite Freezing: Padawan (Demoted)

SPECIES: Human

AGE: physically, 30 standard years. Actually, almost a thousand years.

SEX: Male

HEIGHT: 6’1”

WEIGHT: 195lbs

EYES:
  • Pre-Carbonite Freezing: Blue
  • Post-Carbonite Freezing: white-grey, “freeze-burnt”

HAIR:
  • Pre-Carbonite Freezing: Dark Brown, long.
  • Post-Carbonite Freezing: Shaved bald, as some parts don’t grow anymore.

SKIN: Caucasian. Freezer burn scars are all over his body.

FORCE SENSITIVE:
  • Yes. Just a little less than the average Jedi, but strong enough to be skilled with a fanatical level of training.
  • Affinity for “letting the Force guide his hand” at his command.

STRENGTHS:
  • Jedi Martial Arts: Locked in his memories is the most comprehensive and advanced knowledge of the seven lightsaber forms (and their variants) of the Jedi Order.
  • Patient: As a temple guard, he has been taught incredible patience and diligence, which is second nature to him despite losing his memories.
  • Regimented Training: Exercise, training, studying, meditation and practicing are things that he cannot live without. If he is not working to improve himself, he is unhappy.
  • Force-shield: while he has always needed to work twice as hard as other Jedi to learn his skills, he put special focus into his Force shield skill to protect himself from Force attacks.

WEAKNESSES:
  • Lost memories: Cannot remember his life before carbonite freezing and must awaken his old skills through self re-discovery.
  • Blind: Carbonite freezing destroyed his eyes and the nerves that once connected them.
  • No sense of self: Before carbonite freezing, Gearing Gurke wanted to lose his identity by becoming a temple guard. When he is removed from his role as a guardsman, he lacks conviction as to who he is and what he wants.

APPEARANCE:
More often than not, The Guardsman is usually wearing his Jedi Temple Guard mask and robes. His lightsaber is the “folding hilt” variant as seen in the Rebels TV series. On the rare occasions when his mask is off, his eyes are “freezer-burnt” white-grey and his head is perfectly shaved bald with no facial hair. He is physically well-built as he trains and exercises to a near-fanatical level.

BIOGRAPHY:
Born 51 BBY. Ever since he was a youngling, he had been entranced by the majesty and dignity of the Jedi Temple Guards. It went so far back for him that no one could really pinpoint the exact moment that he had begun to think about it. The idea of surrendering himself entirely to a higher purpose and abandoning his identity intrigued him, even as a small child. Because his base-level Force affinity was lower than most Jedi, he subscribed to the understanding that he would have to work twice as hard as other students just to keep up. Due to this, his goal of becoming a Temple Guard consumed his entire identity as he embraced a single-minded purpose.

When he finally achieved the rank of padawan, he received a premonition in the Force against his will. The vision revealed that he would be killed by a faceless opponent with two red lightsabers. Naturally, he reported his vision to the Jedi and they deliberated on it with a great deal of concern. They even got their own Jedi Seers to try and glean the vision on their own, thinking this might help them to unravel the mystery of the Sith. They were unsuccessful in learning anything about the sith, but they did succeed in uncovering more clarity from his vision with the help of the seers. They discivered that he was destined to on metaphorically “die” as a Temple Guard. They also discovered that it was his destiny to study the Seven Forms of lightsaber combat to a higher level than most Padawans were typically allowed. He was granted special permissions to the Jedi Archives and given advanced tutoring by a few lightsaber masters.

He pursued his special training with relentless determination and hard work. Despite his lower Force Sensitivity, he worked harder than any other padawan of his time. He trained tirelessly, all hours of the day, meditating, drilling, exercising, determined to survive his fateful encounter with the red-bladed enemy in his visions. With a clear destiny before him, he could live his life with a single-mindedness that took him to the brink of obsession.

When he was 21 years old he passed his Jedi trials and immediately pursued life as a Temple Guard. He served proudly, and was moved between various Jedi outposts and temples throughout the galaxy, wherever he was needed. Many Jedi came and went from the Temple Guards, but he never applied for anything else nor did he accept any other assignments. He loved protecting the Jedi and their temples. After all, he held no illusions of his future. He would face the red bladed enemy one way or another. It brought him pride to think that he would do so wearing the uniform of the temple guards.

In 21BBY, a year after the Clone Wars began, he finally faced the red-bladed enemy in his vision as a child. The assailant was none other than Asajj Ventress. She was attacking a Jedi supply depot on the outer at the behest of Count Dooku. The other Temple Guards were slain quickly. It was only thanks to his more advanced combat training that he had held his ground longer than the others. While he was far more proficient in swordplay than her, she was simply a more cunning tactician. She leveraged her greater cunning and tricked him into stepping into a carbonite freezing chamber, and trapped him there. She froze him, robes, lightsaber, and all before he could figure out how to get out.

She attempted to collect him as a prize and bring him before Count Dooku, but her ship was attacked by Republic Forces at one of her jump points in her journey. She was forced to dump her cargo for extra speed and she got away. His frozen body was in an escape pod, so he was sucked into a gravity well and lost on a small moon for over 900 years.

He is still there, waiting to be awakened.

SHIP:
Has no ship of his own. His blindness keeps him from being able to fly a vessel safely, so he has to bum a ride everywhere.

KILLS:
None

BOUNTIES COLLECTED:
None
